i remember Yak-15 being able to fly perfectly and even roll and lower gear if you overspeed broke wings, you could sneak on players thinking you were dead but you flew just like new
I use this technique in 9.0 with the Mig-17AS because when it counts me as dead and i can still fly i sneak into the enemy airbase without getting shot down by AA
The funniest thing I've discovered with the borked damage models is that you can fly the MiG23BN without wings at all. I've done this twice in actual matches. You somehow still have a good amount of control and can even generate a small amount of lift. Of course, you have to be going fast and I'm not sure you could even land it though.
What I love about Gaijin damage m,odel is the fact that a missing wing, represented by black colour on the schematic in the corner generates EXTREME drag, more than a damaged, but attached wing. Till recently, missing a wing made you spin in the wrong direction. Gaijin cares very little for aerodynamics for a company making flight sim games.
wt isn't a simulator even if it has mode called simulator, along the lines of sim-cade, whilst I do agree models can be fixed it just comes down to the players and chances are if they fix it more than 90% would complain because they lack braincells to fly well
Iirc it was a bug, they had a bug a few years ago (which made me pause for a year out of hate) where a black wing root made the plane completely uncontrollable. For example if you were in a dive with a plane completely fine and got a black wing root you were destined to crash and ther ewas nothing you could do about it. They fixed it and a few patches back brought it back in. Not to such a extreme but still enough so that a Jet that can go Mach 2 with AB wont get above 900kph with black wing roots.
I was flying Spitfire mk. I once, got dived on by a Bf-109E-1 I didn't see, was peppered by his guns for a solid second for absolutely 0 damage whatsoever, all his hits just sparked lmao
The biggest culprit is mouse aim, since it flies your plane for you, and generally does a million times better than a human can ever hope to. That is, a human might be able to recover some (maybe all!) of these planes, but the instructor is so good that it's utterly trivial to fly a plane with half its wing area gone. In some cases, it remains a threat in a dogfight..
Mouse aim has the superior reaction time, but balanced the plane far worse than a normal person. It will leave a plane hanging at up to 45 degrees, when trimming your plane can balance it fully
Ikr lol I use mouse joystick instead (no money for real joystick basically), and I have a somewhat more realistically, hard time keeping it in the air with half a wing, and gotta fly full speed the whole time. Landing is an insane feat like that, but it's fun. Meanwhile when I was using mouse aim: this video each time
I landed a Yak-9T without one or both wings a couple of times. I usually break them on overload because of a deep skill issue, and the key to stabilised flight is 500+ km/h
Start with basics - if it was with mouseaim then you didn't fly and you didn't land. You pointed your mouse and instructor did all the hard work for you.

I don't think anyone buys a joystick just for having a joystick and stares at it lol. Even 30 euro joystick is enough for start - less than premium airplanes in this game and can be used in other flight/space simulators. It allows you to actually fly the airplane in the most skill demanding mode in WT - SB. But there is a learning/skill threshold to jump over, which most players are not able to.
occasionally I fly out the javelin and because it's early jet BR there's always a good chance bombers will drop their first load and then just spend the entire 20mins remaining in the match camping the airfield. i wait for them to start circling their airfield, pull a few negative Gs to wing-rip crash, and because enemy SAMs don't register dead planes, i spend a couple minutes strafing their airfield, purging the game of campers while they seethe and cope in chat
reminds me when first jets came out....Mig 15 with properly broken wings was supersonic because of drag loss, still pretty much usable, plus invisible :D

This is not bad damage model but too good instructor, making constant corrections real time and basically fullproof easy mode flight for anything not SB in this game.

the 3d instructor helps a lot with keeping control of a damaged plane. Automatic trim and control of the remaining surfaces to keep the reticle as close to centered to point of aim as possible.

I will always recall the F6F which--as of my last playing WT maybe 2 years ago--did not have automatic prop pitch or any ability to alter the fuel mix using MEC, in spite of the massive red fuel mix knob and prop pitch controls that were visible in the cockpit. That, and shark force. Who didn't love shark force?
Best moment I've had is in Sim in my B17 for Operation Valkyri. A 50mm Me 410 nailed my fuselage right behind the ball turret and the whole tail comes off (the way I notice this before going into gunner mode is I start to nose down and can't pitch up). I had to fly just off flaps and engine power and I still managed to bomb the objective with the formation and make it to the end of the match
The ho 229 used to be utterly broken like this you could have an entire wing shot off and still ge able to dogfight like new once revenge killed an a28 for killing me like that in a ho 229 when that thing was like 20,000 to repair it was utterly broken. Thankfully/sadly now the 229 is much fairer on the whole damage thing which I agree with but I miss my stupid tank wooden dogfighting with half a wing thing

If you have it you should play the itallian ariete, such a fun jet at 9.3 especially it being a sub sonic jet at that br, but it still claps the checks of the enemy super sonic planes.
So, the thing a lot of people don't realize about planes is that you can, in fact, make banking turns without ailerons. Rolling without turning is quite a bit harder though.
To be totally honest, the Premium Ki 43 II (For Japan, not U.S.) does not mouse control well. I do not know if the plane just is really bad at rolling over and turning at speed, but I think that it is just a really bad mouse control flight model. It can be really damaging in a turn fight because it will try to roll the least efficient way and sometimes will even just try to go back to straight and level.

Planes that actually have a history of losing key critical parts and being able to fly to a degree and in some cases even land: *Literally uncontrollable the second they are even damaged let alone lose said component* Meanwhile Planes that have no history of ever even once losing a key critical part and being somewhat controllable nor landing or anything else later on: *Looses multiple at the same time which should unbalance it and cause it to crash and yet nothing happens* Like bruh look at that first plane, Not only is one half of a wing gone but the other wing is missing it's wing tip as well. Completely unstable on both flight terrains. Yet it flies as if nothing happened.

The j29 can sometimes tank a direct hit from r60’s and fly ok, but it’s a tough aircraft already

a fighter can pull multiple gs in a dogfight, pulling just 1g to stay in the air is easy enough
