Another yes here. Those of us that have been fishing with ultralight spinning tackle for many years will tell you about how many large fish we have landed over the years. I have 3 legal muskies, 2 grass carp over 20 lbs, several bass between 5-7 lbs, pike up to 40”, a master angler size striped bass, all on ultralight spinning and 4-6 lb line. If we spinning fanatics can do that, then so can BFS gear, its really the same except the rods and reels are different. Now granted, I don’t intentionally target larger fish, but knowing your gear well and how to use it, we are ready when the big ones do take small lures. I know that I am certainly not the only one.
Stories like yours are exactly why I got into ultralight fishing. Even the small ones are fun, but when those monsters hit and you can beat those odds.. nothing like it. True, the rods are basically the same, but the reels are still relatively new to the US market. Some of them I wouldn't trust with a bluegill.
what a radical battle! I also use the ark gravity bfs along with my Tsurinoya dexterity2 bfs rod and absolutely love it. I fish saltwater harbors in Southern California targeting spotted bay bass and whatever else decides to eat these tiny lures we all love to use. I typically use .06 braid 6# to 10# PE to #4 to #8 floro. all of my best bass are on ultralight gear with 1/16 or 1/8 oz. I recently hooked into monster and had to completely button my drag as my line was screaming off my spool i wasn't getting any line back trying to reel the fish in I knew I was under gunned haha, I had never been 100% spooled with my drag 100% buttoned it was wild haha line snapped of course and I never got to see the fish, I'm guessing it was a huge halibut ill never know!!! so fun trying to wrangle these bigger fish on ultralight gear
Hahaa, nice. I know that must have had your adrenaline up. I never really thought about it, but I guess putting myself at a disadvantage is a huge part of the fun.
Good day. And a merry Christmas 2024. Somehow, the TH-cam algorithm coming to your channel. Just wanted to say that I have the same BFS real: ARK Gravity BFS along with a MajorCraft Benkei 6’7” Light casting rod using Varivas PE .6 Braid. For 2024 season, I have caught Godzilla 5lb Bass. I love the fight and I enjoy throwing tiny baits when everyone is just throwing big stuff in the water. So definitely, BFS works!❤
Hey, merry Christmas to you too! I've got several BFS reels and so far the Ark is my favorite. And yeah, it's so much fun seeing the shock on people's faces when you pull in a monster on a 1-2 gram lure. 😆
I have a Daiwa SS Air on a 7’ Old 18 Kinetic UL rod and it has brought in a 23” walleye and 2 23” channel cats (yes, they will hit on a lure). It only has 8 lbs of drag, but set at about 5 or 6 pounds it does the trick. The rod takes most of the bumps, and things generally go pretty well. BFS fishing is a blast! The only thing that I really don’t trust is my leader knots.
Oh, amen on the leader knots. That's part of the reason I use straight light braid. 😆 Also big fan of Old 18 here. I have that same rod with a Gekkabijin on it.
I snagged a 3 or 4 pound carp under a scale while fishing with a cheap microlight. It took about 30 minutes to get him in. Snagged, on microlight, he might as well have been Moby Dick. In 70 years of fishing I only have a few fish fights I remember with as much clarity.
I've only gotten one carp in the past 5 years and I had a hard time fighting it on a medium heavy. I can't imagine having the patience to keep a light line from breaking for that long. Well done.
I landed a salmon last week on BFS. Couldn't weight it cause there is no salmon season but it was probably a 20lbs fish. 4lbs P-Line leader fg knot to varivas main braid, Light rod, haibo arise air reel. Took a while to land it but yes you can definitely catch and land giants on bfs.
4lb line on a 20+ fish?! Well done. I know that took some serious patience and skill. I really need to stop being such a wimp and give proper light line a try.
@@CastAbout It was fun until the 30 minute mark. After that I sesioulsy became impatient and became a big whiner, lol. The weight is an estimate. We dont have salmon season this year so i had to release the fish asap and i was on a kayak
Yes. Asian countries does it all the time. Basically just using anything bfs for big fish to a point. Personal fav is catching Giant snakehead (Channa micropeltes) that are at 6lb~18lb average sizes and sometimes not without fishing rod sacrifices.
No it can't, Thats why next month when i visit Florida again i'm also bringing my ultralight and light tackle to tackle bigger tarpon this time. Of course my bfs will come but that's for baby tarpon and snook.
Never been to Florida myself, but really itching to go. Brackish is about as salty as I'm getting any of my BFS stuff. I don't think I'd trust it with a 50lb fish either. 😆 Peacock bass on the other hand... I'd try that.

That was an amazing capture ! Keep doing an amazing work !
Thanks! More on the way

I have caught 5lb bass on the ultra light bfs. My pb is a 8+ lb bass on a 7 ft ml bfs setup with 8lb floro
Very nice! I have yet to try fc line on my bfs reels. What's your go to floro brand?
I use Berkley easy cast . It's a 600 yard spool at Walmart for $18

I would love to hook into a snakehead. That and peacock bass are on my bucket list.
