I don't blame Cherry for saying he's buying you Joey when you told him about the bride price, my fiance told me the same 😂😂😂I felt bad but later on he agreed and about your parents paying for the wedding, I was also surprised when my fiance told me as well, this bride price issue isn't an easy topic for most interracial couples, we just need to talk about it and come to an agreement 🤝, such a nice vid 🫂

I've actually also heard that for whites, the man buys the expensive engagement ring, then the girl pays for wedding, unless they both plan and do it together.
Guys that know that stuff of bride price are those that have previously dated an African girl, or intentionally went online to look for a black girl, they did background research. But if anyone just goes online searching for love, regardless of color, then I can't blame them

3:22 Well, Joey! Cherry is right here. He is talking about the Dowry. Dowry is an age-old tradition practiced in many parts of the world. It was a lot common in European Society back in the day. I know what you're thinking Joey - It doesn't make any sense 😅. Of course, it doesn't. It's similar to the bride price but in the dowry case, the bride side pays a sum of money to the groom's family. It is a highly patriarchal tradition that only benefits the groom/man side. But now in most European countries, this tradition is almost extinct. At the same time, it is still practiced in many countries including Asia, Eastern Europe, many parts of Africa, and the Middle East.
On the other side, the tradition of bride price is usually practiced in societies where either there is a lack of women or the society is matriarchal. But the tradition of bride price along with dowry is dying out as women are becoming a lot more educated and independent than ever.
Sadly, Dowry is still heavily practiced in the culture I come from. It is just a means to exploit women to become dependent on men. Bride price is never a thing here. It might be a thing in certain parts of the country though.
What I would advise to you guys is to talk this through. This is a serious topic. Both of you and your families should have a clear understanding of this tradition and then come up with a common ground. Transparency is everything.
    All the best guys! ☺

The bride price is very controversial in interracial couples. How my dad explained it to me was “The groom isn’t paying for me or thanking them as my parents for raising me that’s their role as parents. It is just to build unity between 2 families” also it should be a reasonable a reasonable amount not ridiculous.

I remember I had an affair with black American,we parted ways because of that,he told me,he can pay all the lifestyles,, but can't pay bride... that's why alot of White men's are divorced

Well personally I believe if the guy really loves you he'll respect the culture koz it's not a rule you've come up with. It's something that was there and will still be there

The word price in bride price is not to be taken literally 🤣🤣🤣. It is a thank you to the girl's parents for raising her well. For Meru culture, your uncles will decide how much it is but basically, it's two cows, two goats, suit for mum and dad, a water tank, two blankets and sweaters, lesos for the aunties, gitundu (mitaa), 20L of honey. That's all I can remember but you can also quantify and bring in cash.
That amount of seasoning could season a whole cow 😂😂😂😂

I reare comments on topics here but in this case im gonna say something.
In my culture there is a thing of Omutwalo( bride price)
It could be anything from big to small. When i told my fiancé about it, he didn't buy the idea of buying a wife and really in my opinion there is no price for a wife.
So for us we decided to do this traditional function our way.
My parents are not setting-up any price for me but my fiancé would give them a spacial gift on his terms and other several gifts.
In the end there is no conflict between our families.
For you guys i hop you find clear grounds on this matter and still keep the respect between your cultural practices and your love.
