      dude, my wife's chair has broken both seat back mounts, one was a year ago and the other last week, the parts cost $400 each that aren't covered by insurance (they cover the power chair, not the manual chair). $3 of zip ties and duct tape went strong for a year on the left side and so I hope they last forever on the right side now too.

    I’m a master level industrial designer. I applaud your ingenuity. My sister is confined to a chair as a result of several cumulative medical conditions. I do much of her chair maintenance.
    She thrives on being outdoors, gardening. It is a very important element in her quality of life. Your ability to go 28 miles in a chair is very impressive to me. I will be searching your site, hoping you have hints and tips on how to achieve this very impressive chair range.
    Thanks for your contributions!

    I love it. You called it a “hack job”, I would call it a Frankenchair. It is PERFECT for the stated purpose of banging around in the back lot of a auto salvage yard! Haters can post their own video showing how they did it better.

    Can't tell you how awesome this video is.. i have a jazzy 614 that i put a low rise captains seat on instead of the seat you have. Similar to mine. and the head rest i replaced with a tube speaker by ultimate electronics called the UE megaboom. LOTS OF BASS.. and i put a solar powered. Phone charger with a light strip. and i the tires i have are fat... similar to yours. and i made it all myself and mobility issues are so functionally difficult but with innovative ideas like these.... life is wonderful 😌 thanks

    Hey, a while back on TH-cam I found a guy in Australia who makes and possibly sells a subframe conversion kit that attaches to a jazzy 600, same version, as yours. It was available to convert a jazzy 600 into a four or six wheel drive powerchair with ATV tires. It had sprockets mounted on the original drive motors and motorcycle chains driving the added on front and rear sets of drive wheels. Removing or keeping the original drive wheels determines if you want four or six wheel drive. Sounds like a really cool idea and a really interesting possible new project to try!

    • @hgj2019
      @hgj2019 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Scott, if you ever run across contact info or TH-cam channel name for that guy I would really appreciate knowing it. My sister relies heavily on her chairs, including her jazzy select 6. She uses it for gardening outside a great deal with limited success. A different alternative like what you are describing might help her situation a great deal.

      Hi .. I'm back,, glad you are doing well.. guy gave me a really worn jazzy 6 with 8 000 mi on it. 2 really nice 8 mph scooters. I'm going to mount a power chair motor on the scooter( each side. . I know ...mount gimbal on handle bars. From my experience chairs last longer than scooters for some reason I don't know why but instead of going through this thing and figuring everything out with my limited money I have too many parts not to make something nice
      The hoveround I have as far as going around in my yard is better than anything I've been on so far

    Hello from North Carolina Outerbanks! Found your channel while searching how to modify Shop Rider 16 for all terrain situations. Even toying with idea of installing tracks so it will go anywhere. My neck has been broken 3 times my entire thoracic spine all vertebrae broken in car wreck. And of course lifetime of physical work in construction has destroyed my lower back. So it’s getting harder n harder to stay maneuverable. But my wife is in much worse shape. I want her to be able to be outside n enjoy the outdoors!! I have been watching your vids one after another since I found it. Thank You so very much for such useful information! Keep the Faith brother!

    Put some Bounder casters on the rear. Then you could a few weights over the rear caster to stabilize the chair from tipping forward.
    I need some tires like that when I get chance to update my Jazzy HD.
    It will get new 4 poles motor gearboxes and bigger controller and joystick.
    Nice video. Gives me lots of ideas.

    Hello. Thanks for being so smart, I spent my night watching at least 4 of your videos and kept rewinding.
    I been building robots for years using powerchair motors, and we share the same motiviation to build.
    Just a bit of advise. If you want more power to the motors, you can go with a Sabertooth 2x32 or 2x60. 2 motors, up to 60 amps and I think 36 volts. Push more than 24v can work, 48 probably going to heat and wear out.
    Can drive the sabertooth controllers with remote controls, joystick. Just no safety stuff that is powerchair standard. You can figure it out.
    Wheel hubs and tires such a pain to deal with. Like we have to gave a lathe and a mill make own, and the rims are so tricky.

  • @billsmith1770
    @billsmith1770 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    i adapted wheels/tires from the front of an old riding mower to fit the hubs of an old quickie chair . cut center out of mower wheels , weld a plate that's slightly smaller than outside diameter of rim , to back side of mower rim (remove tires before welding) , center and drill holes . the nearly worn out 15 x 6:00 - 6 tires are same height as original tires on my quickie . not pretty , but cheap .

    Your work is inspiring. I'm in a chair myself, and I would love to ride over the grass without digging holes, and having to "Flinstone" out of them with my 1 good foot. I'm reasonably handy, but I don't have a welder, nor the experience to do good welds. So, I would have to use bolts to fasten everything together. I have 3 chairs to salvage parts from. I looked for a kit to swap to "off-road" tires, but no luck.

    • @TotallyNormal-

      takes a lot of screwing around, and lots of spare parts.. but im sure you'll figure out something! not a whole lot of parts are cross compatible between chair brands.. but honda mini trail tires fit onto most wheelchair stock wheels! sometimes spacers are needed tho to keep tires from hitting the chair.

    I applaud you ! It's hard enough trying to adjust to most any physical disability that takes away a person's mobility. Being like MacGyver powered by non stop Energizer batteries isn't an attribute or quality a lot of people have time for or posses.
    RE: to this part of your video 25:31 / 27:29.
    I agree that most people don't have $30,000 / $35.000 laying around just drawing dust or even a garage with power tools for machinist work. I have searched high and low. Ughh, I've looked into the cost of bolt on tracked type solutions (Tank), modifying electric riding lawn mowers all the way to using electric powered ATV or UTV mods as a base but at the end of the day none of them make any financial sense to me for most disabled users. IMO a power wheelchair shouldn't cost as much or even more than the average new or used car or mini van.

    If I go from 6 inch tires on a jazzy
    To let's say 8 in or even a 10 inch tire do you think the bearings in the gearboxes can handle the extra leverage? Obviously it can I know it gears it up and that's what I want anyway thanks for your answer I figured out the battery problem on my little 3-wheeler is both of my battery chargers for my other two chairs are screwed up or they need special care but when I use my hoveround charger on all of my chairs I get a good charge because that charger is a good charger

    That thing is definitely wide! And I recognize that wheelchair lift anywhere that you used to transport it. I’ve had a Bruno curbsider for six years now, and it’s just starting to become a money project.
    We started having issues with the plug that connects into the controller and the lift itself, so instead of ordering another remote we are just going to hotwire the existing one where the plug is typically located

    Seems to me like you did a really good job. I know that job is beyond my physical capacity! Nice work.
    Rear wheels: Do air filled bike tires that size exist? Maybe from a trike for kids ? But then...they may be spoked wheels.
    The up-side is: you can install baseball cards to rub on the spokes for that cool motor sound. lol

    By the way, the 4x4 or 6x6 conversion kit I mentioned previously had no pivoting casters, just fixed drive wheels, so it probably drives like a skid steer or tracked tractor, so I have no idea how it drives by a joystick, but still a very interesting off road powerchair idea!

    Today I took my almost new elite chair about 5 MI all the way around where I would have used to have walked and I still could but it made it to where I can stop and look and ditches and mess around and it was great I would just like to put select tires on my elite jazzy I believe it's what it is if I could just get one or two more inches on those tires it would go maybe five and a half 6 mile an hour I'm getting an average

    Make the mod kit. I have no way to do the yard work I used to do. I have a Trident for every day and a Jazzy select to put the kit on. Trident's 10 inch skinnies are no good in grass.

    sou do Brasil, não sou cadeirante, mas tenho 3 amigos que são, estou aprendendo para conseguir dinheiro para fazer uma cadeira de rodas elétrica, aqui no Brasil é muito caro tanto cadeira quanto os equipamentos, não temos como comprar equipamento para que não sirva, seus vídeos estão ajudando muito nas decisões e aprendizado para que possa avançar na liberdade e dignidade destes amigos .
    Parabéns pelo vídeo!

    Great video. I dream of getting a wide tire chair to allow me to run in loose gravel. I have QM710 that I could use…. Need to find some wide tires…

    You said thermal lockout?

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      that happens when ya work the controller hard, and it gets too hot. the system will automatically limit the output power till things cool back down, or turn off completely if necessary

    I drove it to Miles and one light bulb went out on my battery meter I thought that was pretty good I try to keep the battery topped off and I know it's not necessary I think tomorrow I'm going to run it down into the red or almost there maybe into the yellow I wish I had a different motor setup or gearing my motor stick inward and I know you know them they're not very long but it's got enough torque for me

    Hello Sir, I have a older jazzy select 6 but was wondering are the drive wheels supposed to be tilted inward on the top? It doesn't stay straight if you are on open streets and sidewalks. Please can you give me some advice..

      there shouldn't be any camber to speak of on the drive wheels.. something is bent, loose or worn out if thats happening...

    I LOVE Your videos and have a question: I have a big fancy Golden Powerchair with lead acid batteries, and one of those folding Chineese powerchairs. The joystick on the folding chair isn't all that precise or good. Might it be possible to switch out the joysticks? The connector looks the same....

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends on the control system theyre using.. a lot of times the folding chairs just use whatever joystick/control system is available at the time.. so might be hard to locate.. but sometimes they have websites with spare parts... BUT on the "cheaper" chairs, cross compatibility isnt really a thing unfortunately :^/ if it happens to be a standard type though, just changing the joystick wont necessarily adjust how it responds... that information is typically held in the main motor controller... short version... ehhh.. probably noteasily possible
