    Before assembly, a light coating of Talcum Powder inside a dry tire or dusting the tube with powder will prevent the tube from binding against the inside of the tire or the rim. It will also prevent a tube from creeping inside the wheel and damaging a valve stem if you are running low on air. Nice video. Keep up the good work.

    Awesome Video, thanks for leaving the fall, glad you didn't get hurt. We are not perfect and showing mishaps makes you even more relatable. I'm thinking of upgrading my mom's power chair to make it better in different terrains. Your videos inspire confidence. I'm handy with tools, but I've only worked on cars, you make a BIG difference and impact the lives of others. Keep doing what you do. Gracias

    You could also put nylon spacers under the front of the plastics to raise them and clear the tires without cutting them.

    Try some talcum powder ( baby powder) on the inside of the tire and on the tube. It stops the tube from sticking to the tire when it heats up. The tube sticking to the tire can cause a flat if the tire slips. The tube can pinch or get a hole in it. I’ve been doing that with tires since my dad taught me when I was a kid To keep the tube from sticking to the tire. Back then we vulcanized patches on (started the glue on fire then blew it out, slapped a patch on and ran a roller over it.) putting baby powder on a patch prevents it from pulling the patch off from sticking.

    Hey Dan. Do't know if you have tried it, but I have reused solid inserts in new tires by cutting them on a bias so that they can be inserted back into new tires. I first cut them out by cutting the tire in half along the tread; avoiding cutting into the solid insert.

    I have a Magic Mobility Frontier V6 AT (Version 6/All-Terrain) with inflated All-Terrain tires. One thing I had to know how to do and have the tools and spare tires/wheels somehow nearby. My tools are in the backpack behind my chair and the spare tires/wheels are ALWAYS in the back of my van. That way as long as the van is with me I have a relatively easy way to deal with a flat. It does mean switching to the gray hard tires but I'm good with that. Of course, none of this works if I take the bus, which I haven't needed to do much since getting my mobility van.
    Without question the inflated tires are an AMAZING ride!

    This video is how I found you. A couple of years ago I bought my first lawn tractor, a couple of months ago I got my first pronto power wheelchair. I can't believe how unstable and bumpy the ride is in my yard. Something I never noticed walking behind my push lawnmower. It seems off road/sidewalk power chairs need a much wider, and longer base, and not so darn heavy. Have you ever made such a chassis? That is what I want to do. Why do you have so many power chairs?

    WOW...Thats a real Money Saver. The best price I've seen on the quantum turf tires was about $400 a pair.
    Assuming that the stock tires you removed are 3x8 inch, the Honda tires should fit on most wheelchair rims. Correct?
    It's nice that the reverse-rim trick worked out for you. I suppose the fancier (the more ornate) your rims are, the more difficult it becomes to reverse mount them. Thanks again Dan. Very nice demonstration. Good safety training clip too. lol

    Remember you're changing the leverage by putting bigger tires on it it's basically putting it in a higher gear you will get a faster speed unless hill climbing ability or it will just use more torque when under a load but it's gearing it higher the higher the tire the higher the gear without changing gears you can think of it as if you had a little tire would go really slow

  • @kellytaylor3915
    @kellytaylor3915 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have them spray expanding foam between the rafters about 5.5 inches or more and it will stop that heat big time.
    When it gets to 92 outside here in Texas my attic is about 84 to 86. This unloads the AC units big time.

    • @kellytaylor3915
      @kellytaylor3915 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am referring to the attic heat.

    • @stormtrooper88
      @stormtrooper88 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      noooo! stay away from the expanding foam...FAR AWAY! besides being a pain in the butt if you need to access something entombed in the foam, if the person installing the foam doesn't do it correctly your home is ruined. even when done correctly many people are having issues with the off gassing. to avoid having your house and everything you own smell like a fish market best to use regular forms of insulation. since you have respiratory issues it's even more vital to avoid products with off gassing issues. R-value is the biggest thing to consider when working with insulation. i am sure you know that already. I have seen almost all your videos and it's fairly obvious you know your way around a toolbox and done enough wrenching to even know what size your muffler bearings are in your van.

    • @WaterWhiteTuber
      @WaterWhiteTuber 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another Great idea is to install a 3M gable vent fan. Gives about 2200 CFM for $200 of parts (Fan, thermostat, louvered vent that opens/ closes automatically). It works really well if you have an attic door. It pulls all of the heat rite out of the house at night. Check places like home depot or lowes.

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think we’re gonna go with radiant barrier - it attaches super quick and REALLY cuts down the heat! Thanks for the suggestions everyone! - oh and a powered vent fan. There’s a perfect spot for a vertical blower with automatic louvers :-)

    • @WaterWhiteTuber
      @WaterWhiteTuber 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TotallyNormal- Oh, just an obvious reminder: Some people are against using an auto-on thermostat for the fan. If you had a house fire, the fan would turn on and actually accelerate the fire/ feed the fire.
      However, you being an ingenious inventor, maybe you could wire it into your smoke alarm to disable ???

    Just a suggestion. When inflating the tires after assembly remove the valve core and inflate the tire. It will seat better. Also, a adding straight valve core to the valve core tool makes it easier to handle/use. Please explain the significance of the 120 AMP controller. Also, what are the wattages of the motors and the F3's superiority ?

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the R-net 120 amp controller is the most powerful version they make - and allows for surge currents to more easily move the chair (and larger tires) around. it also has more 'electrical headroom' and better cooling. the original motors that came on the permobil C300 chairs have a lot less power handling (torque) capabilities - the newer motors (while a bit faster) are also a LOT more efficient. the wattage of the motors is somewhat irrelevant, as the whole system uses a PWM drive scheme - but the 2 pole F-series motors they have EXCELLENT torque! -they hold their own against most 4 pole motors of other brands! they DO require the 120 amp controller to operate at full power though.
      putting larger, wider tires on a chair can really tax the drive system - and you want as much available power as possible to keep things from overheating, and run more smoothly. (less stalling of motors from overloading)

    Interesting. The wheelchair I just got works well offroad, has decent traction. I took it on the lawn. and OMG, our sidewalks here which are like offroad. Uneven concrfete blocks with weeds growing out between. It works on these sidewalks, but because most of the curbs at intersections here aren't acessible, I luckily could stand for a moment to move the chair. it only weighs 58 lbs. I have RA, so just a moment on foot is OK, can usually get by without pain, takes a bit longer than that before the pain comes. I don't drive, so this will give me some freedom. I avoided what medicare can get for me, because not being able to drive, and the shape of our sidewalks it wouldn't have given me any freedon. More likely would have just gotten me stuck someplace. I was lucky to get some cash my way to pick something that suited my situation.

    • @TotallyNormal-

      They don’t always look like fuses.. they have a couple versions.. one is a square block that screws right onto battery terminals.. (red or brown screw-on plastic nuts) and the other is buried under heat shrink on the cables.. (about same diameter as the cable)
      Just to verify- it’s good to check cables with a voltmeter..
      seems odd but I’ve had it happen before and confused me for a week! (also the cable connectors can flash and soot can keep them from making a connection even though they’re plugged in) some chairs the cables themselves are a giant fusible link..
      I’ve got photos on the website inside the controllers.. I don’t remember right off if there are any internal fuses.
      That chair should have a “shark” (mk5) equivalent controller

    Quick question that I can't find the answer to anywhere. I need to remove the rear accessory tray that came mounted on her C300, but in order to access the bolts holding it on, I need to move (lower?) the 'suspension arms' for the rear castor wheels out of the way. Can I simply jack up the back of the chair and disconnect each arm from its 'spring/shock assembly' to let it drop down a few inches? Sorry for the made up part names... Haven't looked up any official nomenclature! 😄

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey! yup! thats the easiest way to do it.. just pop the shock bolts off.. its best to remove the lower bolts that are physically attached to the swing arms.. the top ones are mounted to a rod that goes all the way thru the chair, and it will rotate - making it difficult to remove the bolts/screws. for using a jack, just make sure its far enough under the chair so you're not lifting or touching any part of the back plastic cover (assuming ya haven't removed it already)

I just got a brand new chair from the VA and I’ve been hoping to modify my old C300 into something a bit more able to cross country in. I want to try fishing or hunting in. I want to build outriggers of some sort as anti tip laterally. Ummm, is that a tactical vest back there on the shelf behind you?

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      been looking for some air-filled replacement castors for the back.. ya cant go too much wider because they'll start fluttering around quite a bit - but air filled tires are a little bit wider and less weight.. should de the trick!

    That's a neat conversion Dan!
    I have MOT131092-06 & MOT131093-06 motors in my Quantum Q6 Edge.
    Are those the only motors that will work on this chair?
    I also have the original MK M22NF SLD G, 12 Volt - 51 Ah, Deep Cycle, Gel Batteries and they are only holding charge half as long as they used to so I will need to replace them.
    Are there any better batteries I can use for this wheelchair?

    As I'm going forward in my wheelchair from the left and the right motor which way is the motor turning? Are they turning the same or they turning opposite from each other? Because I accidentally bought a right motor when I need a left side motor. And I was told you had to program those motor to the controller when you replace a motor, but I'm not sure if I have to reprogram the controller to the motor. By the way, I was born disabled with spina bifida and lost my right leg back in 2014 and in 2020 I lost my left leg above-the-knee. I'm sitting on my right leg, but I have artificial light for the left side if only I would learn to put it on when my wheelchair quit on me and throw me out of the chair when I can get back up with my artificial left leg 🤣 👉🍗 my wheelchair is a TDX SP2

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  ปีที่แล้ว

      electric motors dont care which way they're turning - but on most chairs, the left and right aren't interchangeable - as in the left motors wont be able to mount up to the right side. its also best to replace motors as a pair - since they have to work together and one with a lot more/less use on it may not allow the chair to track straight

      most of the permobil chairs ive had get anywhere from 9 - 14 miles on a charge.. and that's ACTUAL miles on the street! if ya get a chair with group 34 batteries.. roughly 8-10 miles.. and if you get one with group 24 batteries.. usually 12-14 miles depending on 'things' lol a number of the quantum chairs have NF22 batteries in them and those are SMALL!! ive got a Q6 edge 1 and it goes DEAD after 3.4 miles!! AmySystems is another good brand too - ya can get them with large batteries and hit the 12 mile mark pretty easily

    • @TotallyNormal-

      ..ya have to search for them - they change constantly. just look for tubes that fit 3.5-8" tires and make sure they have right angle valve stems. (they fit "honda mini trail 50" bikes) ive updated the links a few times in the video description as they expire - but "part numbers" are irrelevant since there's dozens of manufacturers that constantly change everything. that's the nature of ebay unfortunately! :^/

    Hey bud, in that episode where you put these Permobil Flat Free Tire 3"W x 14"T Black - Aggressive Tread on that F3, was it worth it? We get a lot of snow here, and my ramp is 30ft long and slightly steeper than code 1in to 12in my C300 does great; I tried the F3, and the ramp got wet from the rain. It's treated wood with a little alga, and I couldn't go a foot heading back up, so the rep figured the front suspension was cranked all the way tight, and it was, so he softened it, then hosed down the ramp, and he couldn't stop me from going up by pushing me from the front the tires wouldn't spin I just pushed him, but before we got to do that, a friend cleaned my deck with cleaner and power washed it. Another thing, do you think the gray tires have the same compound as the black in the stock tires because the C300 are gray and the F3 are black? They claim they're the same, just different colors. And it's not winter yet; thanks again for the great videos.

    I’m looking to purchase some 22 NF batteries for a back up power chair are there any good online places to purchase batteries? Also is it good to keep the chair plugged in all the time or not for the battery health?

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      allegro medical has some decent prices sometimes... as far as keeping them maintained, its "best" to charge them up, then disconnect them from the chair - or turn of the main circuit breaker if it has one. otherwise plug it in once every 2 weeks overnight to keep them maintained. leaving them plugged in ALL the time will cause issues/shorten the batteries life.

      @TotallyNormal-  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ive got an old quickie S626 power chair - and it has frog-legs on the front of it... lemme tell ya - it can be DANGEROUS! that chair has a really high center of gravity and a short wheelbase.. if ya hit a sidewalk ramp going too fast, it can flip ya right over!! usually an "easy" way to improve ride quality is fitting some air filled tires on the chair.. obviously then ya have to worry about flats etc.. but ya should be able to find air filled drive tires and castor wheels. that usually improves the ride quality pretty significantly :^)

      not sure... this mod was specifically for older front wheel drive permobil chairs, and everything just happened to work with the wheel spacing, and being able to flip the wheel around etc.. most power chairs use similar size wheels (rims) so it might be possible with spacers... havent seen a trident in person though

    • @TotallyNormal-

      the way the rovi is setup, im pretty sure larger tires would give the suspension a hard time... 6 wheeled chairs are a bit tricky to use off road - front castor wheels tend to get buried fairly easily!
