I’ve had this light in my pocket for just over a year and it’s never let me down, early mornings at the yard for work, inside basements of newly constructed high rise building or unpacking at night after work or a hunting trip. I love this light, I think I’m fenix for life 🙏🏼
Been watching other videos on this light and this is easily one of the best. Majority of the others sound like an infomercial where they're just reading off the specs. I appreciate you going into details not given by the manufacturer and showing the light in action. Thank you!
I just picked up a pd25r and it’s replacing my surefire edc defender. In my opinion it’s just as nice material and the features are way better at a third the price. And the pd25r being rechargeable is amazing.
I agree with you, tha user interface you mentioned (side switch for low modes and tail switch for turbo/strobe) would be perfect. Also, I'm glad to see Fenix increasing candela and catching up with the competition. It is almost perfect.
I had the original PD25 and it’s by far my favorite light. The size is perfect. Great power and runtime balance. Take the Fenix rechargeable battery or the standard CR123. Love but my son lost my clip and now the actual light too. So I think I’ll be picking this one up.
I don't mind the UI at all. I like how it turns on at the brightness I left it at. However I use mine at work, always turning it on and off. I would hate it if it either started on the highest setting or the lowest setting and than I had to adjust from one of those two points. I would constantly be fumbling with the mode button.
I’ve had one for about 6 weeks. The only ‘flaw’ is I wish the body button was an on/off button too. Apart from that I love it. Wasn’t aware it works with Cr123s so cheers for mentioning that 👍🏻
My Olight Warrior Mini2 is my EDC as well and I also love Olights interface with the tailcap lights. I ultimately want a WM2 that can take CR123's as needed. My older Olight's could along with different brands of 18650's but none of the new ones allow that anymore.
I believe the UI is such because the on/off is on the tail switch, and body button is for selection. Are there any other flashlights with tail switch and selector button where the selector can be used to turn on the light?
I just retired my original Fenix PD35 and it’s still going strong, the only reason I’ve retired it is because it has too much sentimental value to me for something to happen to it. So it’s nightstand duty from now on. I have surefires and stream lights but my PD35 will always be my favorite duty light
Got mine after shamed faced returning to Fenix ( which have NEVER let me down ) after gear tart tour through the market - which never measured up. Bought as first re-entry pocket carry whilst waiting on 'proper' models. 12 hour shifts, professional use in all weather, uniform and suited. Love my other Fenix lamps, but this is hands down my go to torch - gets 85% plus of my torch use. Cant fault it. Worried about accidental switch on - but hasnt happeneded yet.
I really enjoyed your review! You are spot on regarding the user interface. Due to being in LE, I, for tactical reasons want that max output from the tail cap only. And I'd leave the side switch on the 5 lumen mode so I can see menus in restaurants LOL! Basically, it needs the OL interface. I've been on the fence for so long for this light but I may just pass it up again. OL is coming out with the WM3 today and it seems to be even better than the WM2 although I'm thinking Feniix would still win on the build quality between the two. Keep up the great work!
I stopped using OLIGHT because it is not compatible with primary lithium batteries and most of there light naked plastic optic lens prone to scratch no AR coated glass like Fenix Great honest review!
Maybe what you want is a small tactical light, so you get your buttons where you want and you can enter the turbo mode quick. Thats tac line, because you can hold it like a cop and control everything on the tail of it. Edc line/outdoor often has the power button on the tail and the light modes on the side, because you hold it differently when walking/searching, compared to the cop shinning down on your head through the window. Its different lines and you want them combined, but its easier if you just realise that some is tac line some is edc line and some is oudoor line, you wont find everything you want in a edc, think you are better off with tac line, and then one of the smaller ones I have TK20R UE, TK16 V2, PD36R Pro, PD25R, E09R and E18R V2 and they are all lovely
I like the few Fenix lights that i have. But i do agree that having access to the low and high modes easily is important. I keep the Olight Baton 3 by my bed, and use it if i get up in the night or am up early. Just hold press to get to the moonlight mode. I'm not familiar with this Fenix model but does appear to be a very nice light. Thanks for another great review!
I don't understand the problem with the UI , I actually really like it . I just cycle back the light at the lumen level I use the most before turning it off , this way it's at that level whenever I turn it back on . If you need to access the high output without cycling through the modes they make the tactical lineup for that . Fenix make brilliant quality flashlights for a competitive price , of course there's always room for improvement but overall they're one of the best imo .
@@maxlvledc After thinking about it , you've got a point mate . They could make use of the side button to give an instant turbo mode access , that would make the flashlight even better . Probably wouldn't cost that much more to make the change either .
Wow ! Thank you sir for stating the truth about the Olights ! You’ve been the only you tuber I’ve ever heard mention that Olights can only use their own proprietary batteries. That’s the exact reason why my go to lights for everything are fenix lights.
@@maxlvledc CR123 are 100% safe. Much much safer than any rechargeable battery. I only have fenix lights and use both rechargeable and regular, never a problem.
VERY good review - I fully agree: If it wasn't for the absolutely horrible (and inconsistent) user-interfaces Fenix could be very interesting! I was wondering why you didn't mention it: For a simple 16340-light the PD25 is way, WAY too big: with that 'footprint' in your pocket the light should at least use a 18350 battery!
I can't remember if I commented on this video before. I think I own every version of the single CR123 P series Fenix lights (and a bunch of the 2CR123/18650 PD30 series), from the original P1 in the late 2000s, P1D, P2D, PD20, etc etc. I've been EDCing the PD22 UE at home and PD25 when out, and finally got the PD25R last year. Unfortunately while I do like things like the charging port and output, I don't like the tint, I prefer the more floody light pattern of the previous lights, and I'm not a fan of the pocket clip placement. I'd prefer if they'd kept a deep pocket clip on it. As it stands, the PD25R just sits on my computer table as a backup and I'll continue using the PD22UE and PD25 til something better comes along.
Totally agree regarding the UI. I was completely sold up until that point, instant turbo on the tailswitch is a big one for me. Also the access to stobe is silly I'm definitely hearing you mate - when needed it would generally be in a "hurry/without thinking" situation. That's where I feel Nitecore's i-series lights have hit it bang on the mark! That tail switch, main for instant turbo and a smaller secondary tail switch for instant strobe just nails a UI in my opinion. Especially for what we have to pay over here is Australia you definitely want something that ticks 90% of the boxes not just say 70%-80%... Just my 2 cents! Love the reviews mate!
I love the Olight UI on the Warrior 3 where the tail switch can be either (half press/full press) medium/turbo or turbo/strobe. Then a more “normal UI” on the side switch. I really think Olight nailed the UI with many features without being too confusing.
@@DocDazzler Yes I agree the Warrior has a good UI. I just feel Nitecore's i-series approach having the main tail switch (half press momentary turbo, full press locks turbo on) secondary smaller tail switch (basically the same UI as the main but offering direct access to strobe) is a very unique & great idea on there behalf. Side switch like the Warrior cycles through the modes (Warrior 3s is the only Warrior I own so can't relate to possible other Warrior UI's if that's what your referring to etc...I use the Thrunite Catapult series as my throwers if your meaning that particular Olight Warrior range, so my mistake) Similar but yet having that smaller second tail switch assigned for direct strobe is something in its own league. Just my personal opinion. I definitely agree with the Olight Warrior UI being great, I think Thrunite where tail switches are applied are using very similar interfaces as the Warrior. I'm a Thrunite fan but yet to own any tail switch models so don't quote me on that.
If you want it just for EDC you could set it back on low before you turn it off. Or as a tactical light keep it on high. But you are right. A kind of Olight UI would be much better.
I like if my flashlight turns always on in the mode I choose instead of having to go through all modes every time I turn it on but I agree it's to fiddly to find the mode button just by touch. The mode button should be at the back near the on/off switch as it's the case on the TK20R for example. Thanks for your excelent review. 👍👍
My problem is the side buttons on those flashlights. I have an early model tactical light that is over 15 years old. It has three modes accessed by how you click the one rear button. One click is always high mode, two rapid clicks is low mode, and 3 clicks is strobe mode. All the people I know who have bought lights with side buttons have had them fail catastrophically and unexpectedly in 4 to 5 years.
Muy buen video! Muchas gracias. Saludos!
I actually think the ergos/UI is fantastic. I carry it in my left pocket and grip it with the light end towards my pinky if i squeeze my hand i can cycle through the settings, but i usually leave it on eco or low. been carrying the pd25 and pd25r since 2015
nice br i had all fenix lights, except head light i had only one for work, .. O light i had one.. 🤷🏽.. Fenix i don't know but i love to collect all of them.. 👍
I've been trying to get used to this UI also, & the best solution I have found so far is using this for emergencies (or pointing something out with the hotspot) & using a Fenix E03R (or a TrustFire mini-X) for lower & wider outputs. I have carried my E03R like a dog tag on a necklace with a KeySmart magnet since May 2021 & it has been extremely practical and quicker than using my phone's light feature. Actuating & using the light from my chest, using the magnet to hang the light in escape rooms, under my car or on screen doors & even turning on the red flashing mode and tossing it behind me when I go biking at night has made my life easier and safer. I have also carried the Warrior mini in conjunction with the necklace light but I can't say there's one particular reason why I'm looking to move on from it. The (original) warrior mini's magnetic tail switch has gotten rather sticky and feels lethargic when actuating. When testing it, it turns on 9 out of 10 times when I press the tail switch for turbo, it reaches 190 yards (whereas the PD25R reaches 250yards) & it weighs ~ 100 grams & is around 4.2 inches long (whereas the PD25R weight ~ 65grams and is under 4 inches long). A warrior mini 2 costs $90 ($63 -on flash sales) & gives instant access to low & high output modes. The combination of a PD25R & E03R is about $87. I personally prefer to carry 2 lights that excel at their designated tasks over one light that can do most things mediocrely. I only wish I could balance out having a 4000k-5000k mini flood light with the PD25R
I think you did an excellent video on his flashlight thank you for sharing it it looks very well constructed looking at the light machine and finishing look excellent I don't see any issues in it at all thank you again
I loved your review and thankyou for your honest appraisal. I have this same light and for my needs it is perfect. I would like to say that I think that you are a little harsh about its memory of the last use output. I too want it to power on at the 5 lumen setting. From there I can cycle easily to whatever brightness I need. So, I've trained myself to power it down to minimum before switching it off. It's hardly an inconvenience on what is an excellent flashlight (or "torch" as we call them in the UK). Anyway keep up your great reviews........ Subbed🙂
The new Fenix Ld22 V2.0 is an excellent flashlight! It's a 2aa but has 1 big battery that's usb-c rechargeable an can take 2 regular AA. Build quality has been supior for that last year an a half. Great review, I want one an yours was the first video.
Sounds like we both expect the same options in our EDC flashlight. This is my needs: Bright as hell turbo accessed instantly from tail switch. Cycle modes via side switch that I won't accidentally press when holding it in a tactical manner. Direct access to moonlight mode. Tail stand. Aggressive DNA collector. Strobe with like a double tap on the tail switch. Charging port. Water proof. Good drop rating. Some way to know when approaching low battery. Different fueling methods. So far Olight and Nitecore are the 2 companies that have all of those in an EDC flashlight.
The tail switch on PD25R is a machanical one, it only has two modes: connected or disconnected. If you want the function you mentioned, it needs a electrical switch, like the side switch, or the one on the tail of the Olight. This kind of switch needs the battery to be always connected, the design of the battery connection has to be different as well. So it will be a very big change. I love your moonlight mode and turbo idea.
A higher candela value is not automatically better. It depends entirely on what you want to do with the flashlight. Indoors I find a higher candela value even disadvantageous. And even if you want to illuminate the path in front of you, the candela value should not be too high. It's a bit like asking which is better, an off-road vehicle or a sports car. :)
With the side-button strobe, you can easily send an S O S signal to other hikers or helicopters. If you broke a bone and are waiting to be found, it might make the difference in survival. I'm liking the strobe feature.
Any idea what can replace my Streamlight Protac 1L-AA? It's solid don't get me wrong but it's time to change n upgrade after 4 yrs+? I like Fenix but i hate the UI.. the TK series is cool but I don't need 1000+ lumens n it's insane.. I did think Acebeam Pokelit 2AA? .. any ideas?
I used a pd35 v2 every day at work. And every morning I have to cover the lens and cycle the side switch until I get to low (which is stupid high at 50lm) so I can find my slippers etc. I never THOUGHT about how annoying this was until now. Thanks a lot Dominic. I think I need to upgrade my work edc to an anduril Sofirn with an 18650 or 21700. I've used pd35s as my work light (and for a long time my only light) for years. I think the pd25r is a little big for a 16340 light. I thought it might be a 14500 from the size. My only other complaint with my pd35 is the cold color temp.
I like the UI. It matches the LD30. It won't come on in your pocket either. Even better would be a UI to match the PD32 v 2.0. that is the absolute best. Well, except maybe the Quark MKIII, or the Acebeam L17... Or the Eagtac P200C2. I like simple single tail switch lights.
Check 123 Energizer ultimate lithium I use AA on the e12 and only change one in two years aprox. Are great to have in case or something happens like backup are not cheap but a pay without problem
Never had lights "blowout" my vision when I am not looking into the beam...when I am behind the beam...it is of little consequence. But, then, I am not looking for reasons to penalize a light...that Fenix is a fine light that anyone should be able to use without much issue.
Check out the Sofirn SC31T non pro version. You can pick this up in 5000 k and it’s on sale right now. Sofirn site. You can access Moonlight mode by holding the side switch and clicking the tail switch, this will eliminate blowing out your night vision. You can also access turbo by clicking the tail switch and double clicking the side switch. If you want a dual direction pocket clip, the one from eagtac will fit on this light If you wanted a short light, you can purchase the “18 350 short tube” and it will make it the same length as Fenix pd25r. It seems like you can pretty much charge any battery in this light button top or flat top. I forgot to mention that this light does TAILSTAND
@@cobraman502 I second that recommendation to do a comparison between the 2. I've always been a Fenix fan and have several of their lights and my edc light is a Fenix RC05SE. But Maxlvledc has peaked my interest in Sofirn lights for sure, mainly due to the better UI imo.
The user interface is perfect, once you learn to outsmart it. You can force the memory to come on in whichever mode you prefer, simply by turning it off in the chosen mode. So if it's on the nightstand, turn it off in lowest mode. When going out at night, turn it off in highest mode. Nobody needs strobe, and it's just annoying when it activates accidently. You can practice and play with it if you think it's going to be your weapon of choice.
You don't have to blow out your vision. You can turn it on with the lens against your leg or anything. Or you can plan ahead to have your light come on at whatever brightness you prefer, simply by turning it off in that brightness, It;s perfect memory never fails.@@maxlvledc
@@maxlvledc You KNEW it was coming on in turbo, because that's how you CHOSE to leave it, but then you FORGOT to cover the lens against your body to shield your eyes because .....?
Agreed. I wish there was a way to access low mode from off and I don't really care for onboard charging, it makes the light bulkier than it needs to be.
I feel the exact same way about Fenix UI. So frustrating! It's like they're hell bent on not listening to their customers base and just doing it however they want to. I've never seen another flashlight manufacturer so intent on frustrating their customers. Their flashlights are made so well, they use such good quality LEDs (with nice tint). And you're exactly right... I think they do one of the best jobs with lumen levels. They always space them out so nicely. And they always include something right in that 150 lumen mode which is what I personally use most of the time. Plenty of output and plenty of run time. But their UI drives me crazy. Come on Fenix.... GET WITH THE GAME! 😎👍
Maybe we need to speak louder, or at the right place. Me, and a few guy had a conversation about that hidden USBC, where we stated NOT having a charging port is better than the little flimsy rubber cover, so if they want a charging port, for an outdoor/tac/EDC light, PROTECT IT. when i need the light, i NEED it. And they delivered. (Tbh, it was a Q&A type post, from the admin of the official fb group) join the community, and raise our voice :)
Yeah. 150 lumamans is just tight when you need real light at night but not a tacticool blinding then world light. also the 30 to 50 is nice for just lighting up your path but not washing out your depths perception. and 5 is nice for inconspicuous or unobtrusive light up close.
Great review but can't disagree more about the UI. Having one button for power and one button for brightness is perfect and dead simple--exactly what I want. But I understand people have different preferences--I wish more flashlight manufacturers allowed the user to customize what the buttons do. Especially since a lot of flashlights already have USB C--just let me plug it into a computer and customize things with a simple utility.
I have a PD25R and really like it. I'm used to the UI from years of different Fenix lights I use. Their models with both buttons on the tail cap I especially like. My only gripe with the PD25R is the fit of the pocket clip. The clamp around the body doesn't fill the milled space for it and consequently allows the clamp of the clip to snap back and forth. Love the 2 way clip itself though. Maybe it's a nit pick for an otherwise wonderful light.
I have a few Fenix lights, the quality and reliability is way above brands like o light. I just wish that they would improve their UI a bit. Just finished watching the whole video and you nailed the UI issue.
Awesome flashlight; build quality, output, superb tailswitch, light intensity, etc. One small caveat, if you're holding the light tight enough in your hand you will activate the side switch and go from turbo to 5 lumens in a fraction of a second. I really wish they would have just made the light with just a tailswitch. Just like a streamlight.
Nobody needs a tailstand more than they need that wonderful rubber switch, that enables momentary activation. Most of the real world isn't perfectly flat and level and sturdy anyway. Just prop it up against something.
your a little critical of the buttons. if you needed to turn the light on in the dark you don't want to be fumbling around looking for the switch on the side of the light. the button on the bottom is easy to find
You hit the nail on the head. "UI can make or break. a light"....I couldn't agree more. Which is why till FENIX smartens up and creates at least a UI on par with everyone else e.g. 2-clicks for instant Turbo and 3-clicks for Strobe (those who feel they need Strobe)) I'm not buying another FENIX light...I own their TK16 (best "tractical light" to this day IMHO...I can understand being forced to cycle through the modes...even through Turbo in a high stress situation...you don't want to think...just press the mode button (TK16)....still....would be better in V3 (2023) if they introduced 2-clicks for Turbo. You don't want to blow out her night visin everytime you need to cycle back to ECO or LOW...more so on EDC lights or keychain lights. tiny AA batter using lights....FENIX needs to hire a new UI guy
The ui on fenix pd range is why still refuse to buy 1, the pd35 and 36 are the same, the closed i have found are some of the thrunites, the only bad thing with the trunjtes is you cant enter the normal modes by entering though moonlight mode. But atleast thrunite you can have a turbo tsil switch and a low side switch
It's quality but if you are going to get an 18350 battery flashlight you can get alot more compact and shorter. If you are going to buy an 18650 battery sized light, then just buy an 18650 light, You will gain more light and longer run times. Stack two 18350 in an 18650 flashlight and witness the extra power. It can blaze. Be careful though and read if your light can handle two 18350s or it will meltdown,,,,,not happened yet though even with cheap hosts....this is how you get max power/ run times per weight ratio.. A compact 18350 example is the Olight Warrior Nano. Really good light
The PD36Tac may be the one fenix that actually has a UI that makes sense. But that price is obscene.. if they made a much smaller 18650 variant I think that would be amazing
To avoid having the light come on initially on High, why wouldn't you just always remember to turn off the light in Low mode? Wouldn't seem to very tough to do this.
Two way pocketclip? Neat! The size? Great! High candela? Awesome! Takes a rechargable AND normal CR123? Perfect! Strobe only accessible via the side switch? Oh god dammit! I live in a country where anything self defense related will get you in trouble or at least strange looks. So my top priority in an EDC flashlight is easy access to the strobe mode. I could live with any downsides you mentioned, but that's the only thing that prevents me from getting this light in an instant.
I agree with you on the user interface. And this is small also, but I really resent the Sudo crenulated bezel. It serves no purpose. I don't need a strobe but I like an SOS mode. Also, it would be great if this flashlight could use AA batteries. I don't like the brass-colored power button also.
Another great review👍 Agree with all your perspectives. I'm a big Fenix fan but their one shortcoming is their UIs imo. But due to everything else great about them I've continued to use them. However you've peaked my interest in Sofirn lights as I've mentioned before and due to their better UI imo I'm thinking of trying one out. Admittedly I'll probably also pick up the PD25R as it is the perfect Fenix edc light imo and I'm willing to sacrifice an awesome UI for the quality and performance of a Fenix light. But I'm not ruling out a Sofirn beating it out if the quality is there.
@@maxlvledc Yes indeed! I just contacted their customer service and it turns out that using the CR 123. It will not go past the medium setting so as far as Eco low and medium, it will maintain the same output/candela as with the 16340 but again it will not go past medium mode. Have you considered the Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA? If you give a good study to the output sheets, it’s actually quite comparable and a lot cheaper. With that said, I have to say the PDR25 is a very handsome light but it seems like it’s main feature is the high candela on the turbo mode. Otherwise it’s not that impressive imo.
@@maxlvledc I haven’t experienced that. Nonetheless if using the PD25R I think I’d be fine with perhaps one extra 16340 since it’s rechargeable anyway. I may get it on Amazon just to try it out. I kind of want to want it if you know what I mean lol.
A single click easy access to low, high and strobe is asking too much. You only have 2 buttons. Also, most people prefer the memory capability of a flashlight than no memory at all (go back to low mode).
I’ve had this light in my pocket for just over a year and it’s never let me down, early mornings at the yard for work, inside basements of newly constructed high rise building or unpacking at night after work or a hunting trip. I love this light, I think I’m fenix for life 🙏🏼

I'm glad you brought up the importance of candela as a spec. Fenix usually has more compared to most other brands.
I pre-ordered this light from Fenix and as soon as I got this light it immediately became my everyday carry. It’s perfect.
PD35, TK16, TK16v2, TK25 R&B - Best quality tail switch I have seen.

Yes. For example olight warrior series.
Although I prefer fenix over olight, for many reasons, in the UI olight wins for sure.
I recently got one. Love it, and i like the UI. Set it to the brightness you want it to come back on before you shut it off.

@@michael_caz_nyc Why are you disappointed with the WM3 ?
Maybe what you want is a small tactical light, so you get your buttons where you want and you can enter the turbo mode quick. Thats tac line, because you can hold it like a cop and control everything on the tail of it.
Edc line/outdoor often has the power button on the tail and the light modes on the side, because you hold it differently when walking/searching, compared to the cop shinning down on your head through the window.
Its different lines and you want them combined, but its easier if you just realise that some is tac line some is edc line and some is oudoor line, you wont find everything you want in a edc, think you are better off with tac line, and then one of the smaller ones
I have TK20R UE, TK16 V2, PD36R Pro, PD25R, E09R and E18R V2 and they are all lovely
But...there are UIs that allow you to do both seamlessly..so why not have something better?
@@maxlvledc After thinking about it , you've got a point mate . They could make use of the side button to give an instant turbo mode access , that would make the flashlight even better .
Probably wouldn't cost that much more to make the change either .
Wow ! Thank you sir for stating the truth about the Olights ! You’ve been the only you tuber I’ve ever heard mention that Olights can only use their own proprietary batteries. That’s the exact reason why my go to lights for everything are fenix lights.
Cr123 are super volatile, so just be careful with them
@@maxlvledc CR123 are 100% safe. Much much safer than any rechargeable battery. I only have fenix lights and use both rechargeable and regular, never a problem.
Great review I wish Fenix would make more lights with magnetic tail caps.
You’ve been sleeping on fenix my boy, pretty much all of the Fenix lights are this nice
Nice yes..with terrible UIs
VERY good review - I fully agree: If it wasn't for the absolutely horrible (and inconsistent) user-interfaces Fenix could be very interesting!
I was wondering why you didn't mention it:
For a simple 16340-light the PD25 is way, WAY too big:
with that 'footprint' in your pocket the light should at least use a 18350 battery!
Fenix doesn't really offer any great UIs, but they're simple at least
Subbed🙂
Agree. Just cycle down prior to turning it off. Non issue really.
Excellent video as always! I have the exact same taste in UI, and Fenix is frustrating because I love everything else about them.
Or how about the klarus xt1A or xt1c 2018 version. It is an old flash light but has adouble tail switch that can instant access to hi and low.
The new Fenix Ld22 V2.0 is an excellent flashlight! It's a 2aa but has 1 big battery that's usb-c rechargeable an can take 2 regular AA. Build quality has been supior for that last year an a half. Great review, I want one an yours was the first video.
Don't like proprietary batteries.....if it ran on two 14500 then it would be great..
Sounds like we both expect the same options in our EDC flashlight. This is my needs:
Bright as hell turbo accessed instantly from tail switch.
The Strobe is the only one the Sofirn sc31T is missing..but I still highly recommend it.
@@maxlvledc I'll check it out 👍
Very nice. Is it still the best Fenix version or are there similar or better models?
I'm looking at a PD35R
100% true
I lost my warrior mini 2 in my house some how and have been eyeing this light for a minute thx for the review .
Before you do...consider the sofirn Sc31T..it's longer but amazing
What would be the Coast equivalent?
With the side-button strobe, you can easily send an S O S signal to other hikers or helicopters. If you broke a bone and are waiting to be found, it might make the difference in survival. I'm liking the strobe feature.
Any idea what can replace my Streamlight Protac 1L-AA? It's solid don't get me wrong but it's time to change n upgrade after 4 yrs+? I like Fenix but i hate the UI.. the TK series is cool but I don't need 1000+ lumens n it's insane.. I did think Acebeam Pokelit 2AA? .. any ideas?
I agree with you about the strobe. That to me is the one function an EDC has to have that’s idiot proof. Fantastic review.
The SC31T has a fixed UI that works perfectly, and the SC32 is obscenely good as well. Reviews for both coming soon.
Thanks for mentioning Sofirn flashlights, I got the sc31t and SC 33 on sale 😉
I like the UI. It matches the LD30. It won't come on in your pocket either. Even better would be a UI to match the PD32 v 2.0. that is the absolute best. Well, except maybe the Quark MKIII, or the Acebeam L17... Or the Eagtac P200C2. I like simple single tail switch lights.
Fenix doesn't really offer any great UIs, but they're simple at least. They need a light wuth anduril 2.0.
Bang on! It's an amazing torch but it gives some really important things. Fit and feel is second to none. WM 2 is a better torch.
If you want a dual direction pocket clip, the one from eagtac will fit on this light
If you wanted a short light, you can purchase the “18 350 short tube” and it will make it the same length as Fenix pd25r. It seems like you can pretty much charge any battery in this light button top or flat top.
I forgot to mention that this light does TAILSTAND
I actually just got it from them 2 days ago, it's incredible for the money
@@maxlvledc you must do a review and compare with Fenix pd25r.
You can practice and play with it if you think it's going to be your weapon of choice.
how is it perfect? If I am in pitch black..I know its coming in on turbo...I will blow out my vision first..This is mediocre at best in modern UIs
Great review. Thanks for posting.
Any chance yoive also used the HM50R Version 2.0 headlamp? If so, curious how you'd compare it to this PD25R.
A small secondary Button on the Back would be a sensible Strobe location!
Agreed. I wish there was a way to access low mode from off and I don't really care for onboard charging, it makes the light bulkier than it needs to be.
Just set it to low before you shut it off and it will come back on low.
I prefer Fenix UI for many uses.
You don't have to lock out the light every time.
Max level flashlight game for real 💯
Got a Reylight LAN, raw machined titanium. For me it checks all boxes.
Dude, your filming quality improved a lot recently!
Thanks! Shooting in 4k now
Like the charging port design. Any other fenix lights with the same style?
I have a few Fenix lights, the quality and reliability is way above brands like o light. I just wish that they would improve their UI a bit. Just finished watching the whole video and you nailed the UI issue.
The thing with the operation is that it lends itself to big hands. I can operate it with my pinky touching the button and cycling through.
9:30 - I agree, the UI was a deal breaker for me, you have 2 buttons, separate their function. Tail switch should always be high/turbo
Tail switch on Fenix is ( by far ) the most accurate in a tactical or emergency situation. Fenix Rules.
I prefer warrior nano !
Thanks for your video ❤
Awesome video man. Please tell me, does it memorize strobe mode on tail button? Thank you!
Nope
Nobody needs a tailstand more than they need that wonderful rubber switch, that enables momentary activation.
Most of the real world isn't perfectly flat and level and sturdy anyway. Just prop it up against something.
Yeah I just lay them flat.
your a little critical of the buttons. if you needed to turn the light on in the dark you don't want to be fumbling around looking for the switch on the side of the light. the button on the bottom is easy to find
I took off the pocket clip because I didn't like how it felt in my hands. Like how it fits my phone charger and kindle.
Have you looked at the Fenix PD32? It is $15.00 cheaper and can run either 18650 or CR123 batteries.
Olights are extremely over rated by the manufacturer and olight fan boys ..
Exactly. They’re Chinese junk just like inforce.
"Facts" Big Time Over-Rated
They're turning into toy makers.😢
BTW, do you build custom lights? Thanks
That would be cool! But no.
I like pd36 tac for big driver. olight baton 3 for small driver.
The PD36Tac may be the one fenix that actually has a UI that makes sense. But that price is obscene.. if they made a much smaller 18650 variant I think that would be amazing
Before you turn off the flashlight put it on the level you want it to be when you turn it on the next time.
To avoid having the light come on initially on High, why wouldn't you just always remember to turn off the light in Low mode? Wouldn't seem to very tough to do this.
Would you record this over the protac 1l-1aa?
Hmm, yes..but the 1L-1AA can use double AA batteries which is a huge bonus
Same for me, fenix make nice lights, but not for me anymore. I loved the p1d.
You might want to look at HDS flashlights that let you get to any brightness from off.
most flashlight company underestimate 18350 light. more light like this or sf backup should be made
Two way pocketclip? Neat!
The size?
UI kills WAAAY too many flashlights lol.
What was the longest flashlight on the right?
Warrior 3 S from olight
I agree with you on the user interface. And this is small also, but I really resent the Sudo crenulated bezel. It serves no purpose.
I don't need a strobe but I like an SOS mode.
Also, it would be great if this flashlight could use AA batteries.
I don't like the brass-colored power button also.
I have this light if you push the back button and hold it it will go to strob
Hold off..I just got the sc31T and Sc32..both are amazing
How weak is output using CR123A’s vs 16340?
A lot less
@@onedirection3510 I don't like cr123 batteries, they are incredibly volatile
@@maxlvledc I haven’t experienced that. Nonetheless if using the PD25R I think I’d be fine with perhaps one extra 16340 since it’s rechargeable anyway.
I may get it on Amazon just to try it out. I kind of want to want it if you know what I mean lol.
Is it hot to handle on high mode?
Is it not worrying, that when you’ve so many flash lights, you still can’t even find the perfect one? 😂 Nice reviews mate!
Great info!
Great review bro! This pd25r is a lil beast!!
hate the fact that fenix flashlights can only turn on with the tail switch.
A single click easy access to low, high and strobe is asking too much. You only have 2 buttons. Also, most people prefer the memory capability of a flashlight than no memory at all (go back to low mode).
