A very, very good selection of British & Irish Blues and Blues Rock. I would humbly add a few suggestions for further investigation: The Graham Bond Organisation (Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker came from this band), The Keef Hartley Band (John Mayall's former drummer), Them (Van Morrison's original Belfast band), The Spencer Davis Group (launched Steve Winwood), The Blues Band (Manfred Mann veterans go back to their roots in 1980, and kept making albums up yo the 2010s), Dr. Feelgood (The Kings of Pub Rock in the 1970s, who accidentally gave birth to Punk in Britain), Nine Below Zero (another popular Blues revival band of the later 1970s, who made a lot of albums).
Great suggestions! These bands really made a strong mark on British blues and blues rock, each with their own style. Dr. Feelgood and Nine Below Zero are gems that could easily fit in any list! Thanks so much for the suggestions and for watching!
@@AdrianLee-ho1ds Ah Nine Below Zero! Used to see them in The Clock Tower pub in Clapham when they were Stan's Blues Band. Big up to Dennis Greaves if you're out there.
Thank you for this piece of musical history - the blues was a deep well from which came many innovations. Jethro Tull are probably worth a mention too, if only for their first album.
Thanks so much! It’s true, blues really sparked a lot of innovation. And you’re right about Jethro Tull - that first album has a bluesy feel and deserves a mention. Appreciate the suggestion!
I would like to add these bands and musicians to your great selection: Colosseum, John Dummer’s Blues Band, Duster Bennet, Christine Perfect, Brian Auger…
Great additions! Colosseum and Brian Auger, for instance, brought a unique twist to British blues rock, and Christine Perfect is legendary. Thanks a lot for the suggestions!
There was another UK blues-based band that did very well, 2/3 British with an American guitarist, if only I could remember his name. Jammy, Jiminy ... it's on the tip of my tongue.
John Dummer Blues Band,Rare Amber,Bakerloo,Killing Floor,Love Sculpture,Steamhammer,Stone The Crows,Juicy Lucy,Humple Pie,Black Cat Bones,Christine Perfect Band
You brought some gems here! Christine Perfect Band and Steamhammer are a must for those who enjoy more refined blues. I'll save this message for when I prepare part 2 of the list. Thank you very much for enriching the discussion!
Good call! Nine Below Zero and The Blues Band are classics of the British blues revival. They really brought fresh energy to the style. Thanks for the reminder!
@@BackingTrackCenter More bands, Brunning Sonflower blue band, John Dummer blues band, DR Ks blues band, Dave Peace Quartet, Black Cat Bones, Killing Floor, Tramline. Shakey Vick blues band, Love Sculpture, Tramp, CLARK - HUTCHINSON -BLUES 1968. CHEERS.
You brought a great list! Love Sculpture and Clark-Hutchinson are classics, and I love how they innovated the blues. I'll take some time to listen to some of the others you mentioned. Thanks for enriching the discussion with these great suggestions!
True! Rory Gallagher was truly instrumental in popularizing the blues in Ireland and around the world. He also appeared in a video specifically for blues guitarists, if you can, check it out: th-cam.com/video/ElJaaI1IhNw/w-d-xo.html Thanks for commenting!
@@AdrianLee-ho1ds Yeah, but Rory's solo career was much longer and more consequential than his time in Taste. No reason to leave that out. They had three bands Clapton was in.
Interesting point! Crusaders and Ides of March do flirt with blues rock elements but lean more toward jazz and soul. I think both bands are American, right?
@@BackingTrackCenter I am sorry, I forgot that topic is about British and Irish bands. Besides I agree their music is jazz or jazz rock with blues elements...
What about Them? Van Morrison's vocals alone on their 2 albums and 9 singles warrants a top five spot! Where are the Pretty Things? Unbelievable! The Yardbirds should be in the top five! Led Zeppelin is missing as well.
We set out to deliver a list of 20 bands. Which ones would you remove from this list to make room for Them, Pretty Things and Led Zeppelin? Please note that this list is not a ranking; all bands were placed on the same level. Thanks for commenting!
The two bands I like most here, Yardbirds and Fleetwood Mac, weren't really interesting until they forgot about the blues. The only REAL blues band I am listening to today are Keef Hartley Band, who are not even mentioned here. I have seen most of the bands on the list live, and only The Yardbirds (with Jeff Beck) were surpassing Keef Hartley Band.
Agreed, many of these bands shifted their sound over time. And Keef Hartley Band really kept a true blues vibe. Thanks for the comment and the memory of seeing The Yardbirds with Jeff Beck live-must have been epic!
I get the frustration, but with so many legendary bands, it was hard to include everyone. Van Morrison & Them are incredible, though. Maybe they deserve a spot in a future list. Thanks for commenting!
It’s a common mix-up! Ten Years After got big in the U.S. after Woodstock, so many think they’re American, but they’re originally British. Thanks for the comment!

Strangely I saw all these bands at Mothers!!😄😄
Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy, Robin Trower, Canned Heat, Black Crows, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix,

It was about British Bands, you didn't catch the context!
British!
A very good list. Please don't forget Keef Hartley band.
Glad you liked it! And you’re right, the Keef Hartley Band played an important role in the scene. Thanks for the comment!
For me.. the who deserve to be in this list
Very good 20 not 50 !
It's unfortunate that the Groundhogs never got the attention they deserved.
So true, The Groundhogs deserved more recognition. Their sound was ahead of its time, and Tony McPhee was fantastic. Thanks for the comment!

Good mention, though many view the Experience as more psychedelic, Jimi’s blues roots are undeniable. Thanks for contributing!
