AWESOME CEILING PANEL FULLY INSULATED - VW Caddy Maxi VAN BUILD - RV

  • EXTREMELY NEAT CEILING PANEL - VW CADDY MAXI
    Using the original ceiling pannels as a template, I make a new one from 6mm ply in one piece. I cover it in some lovely material and fully insulate it. The original plastic fixings are naff so I drilled out all the fixing points and added nut rivets so the panel is fixed securely and is easily removed if needed.
    Coming from a building background I decided to use a building product. SuperQuilt is an awesome insulator especially where space is a premium like in a van and I’ve used I’ve many a time on loft conversions. It is flexible so suits lining out a van and it is a very good vapour barrier. If you sit on it you can instanlly feel the heat reflected back to you. Cut with sharp scissors then Seal the cut edges with some foil tape. BOOM!

    FOIL TAPE 100mm: amzn.to/3oAI2sT

    Looks great. Did great getting it lined up. I find it easier to put the fabric onto the board rather than drop board onto the fabric. Position fabric on board where you want it. Then clamp or put weights on one end, fold back half the fabric from other end and spray that half’s fabric and board. Gently fold it back down smoothing back from the centre. Then lift weights or remove clamps and repeat the process with the other half. Loving the build so far. Atb Dave

      Yes I thought about it but because the fabric stretches and moves I didn’t want to risk all the lines being bent. Plain colour next time😂😂😂

    Hi Al
    I've just finished my first self build campervan. I like you couldn't decide what to do with the cargo light in the back cos of battery drain etc. Then someone suggested changing it for an LED which uses far less power from your engine battery. So i did that and now i have a light that turns on every time i open the door which is extremely handy in the dark

    • @BUSHMANandBLUE
      @BUSHMANandBLUE  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I have the led bulbs saved ready and they are a nicer light too. I actually have some battery drain I haven’t sourced yet. Couple other things it could be.

    If I was going to do a van conversion, I would get a friend to do my panels for me, he has access to a wood laser cutter, just have to provide the wood, and a few beers for him. Amazing see that machine work, seconds to do complicated cutting.

    Just in case you ever need to re-cover your roof lining again in the future (or in case you need to cover anything else with your fabric), I thought I’d mention that it may be worth testing a bit of fabric to see whether using ‘photo spray mount’ would work better in stopping the glue soaking through...as when I’ve used it in the past it’s tended to spray as a fine mist instead of the thicker/ stringier jet that contact adhesive seems to spray. They even do one that's repositionable for so many hours after, which might perhaps be helpful if you need to adjust things slightly.

    You’re very meticulous.
    Me too...👍🏻
    You should cover it in Alcantara! 😬. Actually I don’t like fake suede.
    What car is the old black one?
    I love old cars...
    So many questions, so little time.
    Where’s “Wonder Mutt” ? 🥺

      The car is an Austin 10 and Blue isn’t around as there is too many shards of metal lying about. I need to look after my boy 🥰

    Looks like your first project should have been a work table to get you up off of the dirty floor. Couple saw horses and a sheet of 19mm ply would do the trick. Are you going to cover the grey A pillar and roof plastic with the same fabric as well?

      @BUSHMANandBLUE  ปีที่แล้ว

      No but I might cover a cushion in it😂
