It was 1991. I was 18 years old, trippin on shrooms. That night a friend of mine gave me a cassette tape from a friend of his. It just had 'The pod' scrawled on the label, and it totally blew my mind. I didn't find out who it was by for a quite a while after that. It also turned out the album had been recorded to that tape at 45rpm instead of 33, my god I wish I still had that tape, as it will always be the correct speed of the pod for me. Touching 50 now, and Ween has been a constant in my life, becoming greater and greater musicians as they did so.
❤ I hear you loud and clear, my collegiate years from 87-90 I was occasionally kissed by Deaner and Gener….88-91 I was trying to accept some friends pushing me towards the Grateful Dead, but the RHCPs were winning out. Then a WUNH DJ friend suggested PRIMUS Frizzle Fry and the Peppers got kicked to the curb. PRIMUS was now in 1st place. And then- Pure Guava entered my life at 22- 😳❤️🔥🌍👁️🌊❤️🔥. I’d seen PRIMUS probably 40x between 90-95, but had yet to catch WEEN- WTF- I lived in the Northeast and was always going to shows- how could this have happened?!? Enter April 1995- days earlier I had just scored tix for the upcoming Sublime show in Boston. I used lots of substances and distributed to pay for my habits---on the car, returning from a “run”, my roommate had apparently sold a Z of uptown to an undercover wearing a wire-- DEA + NHDTF were everywhere. Blues flew up and we were cornered. Well, turns out the packaging from my dime of hubas was on the floor my side. Arrested and strip searched…….July 1999 once again a free man. The coming fall Somerville Theatre, vary back row of the balcony standing on seats leaning against wall-mushrooms- I have never been the same. At 55 I still go to every WEEN show I can make, and quite a few I should not be able to make---from NH to Philly, NOLA, Denver…… God, I nean Boognish I ❤LOVE❤ WEEN! And the other I never miss is Kes Claypool and his secret agent Mike Dillon (now my homie) www.mikedillonvibes.com he and Deaner are super tight pals
I wish every good band would do two studio versions of all their good songs- one in a fancy studio and one in a good lowtech studio tuff gong style. I always wished Ween would go to Jamaica and make a Reggae album with some old Reggae studio guys (just like they went to Nashville and made a great country album). Fruit Man, Nicole, and Mangoi Woman were awesome.Sadly I doubt that would ever happen now but a man can dream
I think it's pretty safe to say this, but absolute gems like this is why everyone here damn near bleeds brown. every single album or demo or b-side comp by these guys are worth heavily listening to on repeat, what other band comes close to this level of consistency? Its a true joy to even have the opportunity to be a fan of Ween. Studio Ween is like driving a '69 mustang on highway 1, the demos are like driving an old vintage Rolls Royce around in the countryside. wait i think I got that backwards..
I'm humbled by the fact that their demos are better than 75% of today's bands produced records. There's incredible music being made right now, but Ween is up on the throne, sittin' pretty, watching the legend grow.

I've seen them live three times in their prime. Mollusk, White Pepper and Quebec. All in Seattle and all amazing!! The White Pepper show, a girl hopped on stage and when security came at her, Aaron shook his head no, and he let her sing the song with him as a duet, they kissed and she hopped off stage. It was a beautiful moment.
Is it just me or does the Caesar version of “If you could save yourself” hit so much harder than the album version? It was already such a powerful song.
I dunno.... this sort of stuff always sounds really fresh and exciting when you've heard the album versions 100 times. Objectively, the album versions tend to be loads better.

I can't help with the flute, but the sandwich just needs to be inserted into the mouth. Then you bite off a small portion and chew it until it's mush. Lastly, swallow and repeat until the sandwich is no more. You can do it with or without a thumb in the butt.
I love this version of "If you save yourself", it's flawed and imperfect in a perfect way. The Quebec version is great but feels a bit overproduced. There's nothing but raw emotion in this one. Plus, an actual ending. Bless you Papa Gener.
Many of the Mollusk session demos are great as well. the version of Cold Blows the Wind made me realize how good of a song it really is and how overproduced the album version is.

All good....and many true gems. So pleased to have found this. I really wish that I could hear some versions of these songs with Clyde drumming....but even with a drum machine these tunes are undeniable.

Saw Ween at 2006 Lollapalooza, and it was one of the best Id ever seen. Which I saw them more when I had opportunities to, I just was always like "Ween will be around" and although they will, they aren't currently as they were when I had said such things. So always go out and see bands you want to see when they give you chances to see them. Don't Do what Danny Dont Does!
Was living in NYC a year ago, trying to find a way to get to see them on my birthday (the 14th), and eventually gave up cuz I couldn't fare a ticket. A year later and man if there's one thing I could change in 2020 it's going to see these guys. Maybe one day.
I already thought Gonna Be A Long Night sounded like Motorhead on the original Quebec album. Now I know for sure that was the influence behind it. Lemme-esque vox.
For the age I am, it just so happens that I never enjoyed the evolution of a band like I did Ween. Helped, I guess that we were both from Pennsylvania, so I was interested, but from GodWeenSatan - the Oneness, (in running for greatest title) to this album - freaking awesome. Once again- God, Ween, Satan - the Oneness - hilarious.
Just spreadin' the brown around, took about 2 minutes to make on WIndows Movie Maker. The real huge thanks obviously goes to Gene & Dean for allowing their stuff here. Many artists aren't so gracious. So (talking to everyone now) go buy some Ween shit and see them live! Worth every penny and more.

I actually agree with their final choices for the final version of Quebec album - except The "Fu**ed Jam" should have been replaced with "Hello Johnny" - which I find amusing for some reason.
Quebec is damn near perfect as it is. I'm just glad to have the opportunity to listen to this demo. It's like an entirely separate album with a few familiar tunes.
This album is a truly wonderful listening experience. A wide variety of emotions flow through you when you listen to this. Wonderful to hear all of the other versions of great songs. If anyone is reading this comment and is getting into unreleased Ween music, there is an insane amount of music to listen to that you haven’t heard before. Do yourself a favor and browse through destr100 and boognish monster’s channels. I started listening to unreleased stuff a few months prior to the writing of this comment and I’m still finding stuff to listen to, good luck out there
A long time ago I was sent sort of the same thing with mollusk. The she wanted to leave had me in tears. My roommate was taking a nap and was listening, he too had cried.
Ah, the "album" that allegedly "broke-up Ween". Or rather, supposedly the "straw that broke the camel's back," but we all know Gener just needed time to begin his recovery. The funky stuff is especially brown. Deaner's new album is brown. Anything real is brown. That unnameable quality in Ween's music you've been searching to define? I got you, mang: It's fucking "brown." The Ween site's FAQ isn't very clear, so I figured I'd give the definition a shot. Anyone else is free to let us know their thoughts on brownness here, obviously.

Wow this is great stuff, listened to Ween since the early 90's and loved them then, kind of fell out of touch after White Pepper, and I was the fool to do so, now in 2015 I am macking on Ween old and new, many great memories and parties thanks boys for I am now 40 and still rocking this stuff after a significant hiatus.
I love Hello Johnny because it sounds like it could have been or even was made in an older Ween era a decade ago. I assumed it was when I first heard it on a rarities collection.

Idk why but I prefer these vocals of Someday over the Shinola version. Caesar is my favorite ween album and all these tracks deserve their shine.
I think this is my favourite collaboration of Ween. Long beach island is great but all the extra tracks on this one are the best.

For the age I am, it just so happens that I never enjoyed the evolution of a band like I did Ween. Helped, I guess that we were both from Pennsylvania, so I was interested, but from GodWeenSatan - the Oneness, (in running for greatest title) to this album - freaking awesome. Once again- God, Ween, Satan - the Oneness - hilarious.
Freaking magic. I'm going to drink some Caes in honour of this.

I actually agree with their final choices for the final version of Quebec album - except The "Fu**ed Jam" should have been replaced with "Hello Johnny" - which I find amusing for some reason.
I like Fucked Jam though, and Ambrosia Parsley is the shit too.
Quebec is damn near perfect as it is. I'm just glad to have the opportunity to listen to this demo. It's like an entirely separate album with a few familiar tunes.

This album is a truly wonderful listening experience. A wide variety of emotions flow through you when you listen to this. Wonderful to hear all of the other versions of great songs. If anyone is reading this comment and is getting into unreleased Ween music, there is an insane amount of music to listen to that you haven’t heard before. Do yourself a favor and browse through destr100 and boognish monster’s channels. I started listening to unreleased stuff a few months prior to the writing of this comment and I’m still finding stuff to listen to, good luck out there

Ah, the "album" that allegedly "broke-up Ween". Or rather, supposedly the "straw that broke the camel's back," but we all know Gener just needed time to begin his recovery. I'm glad the he's sober now and is still taking his recovery serious. So proud of him and the rest of the boys. Praise be to Boognish.
Their best album I think - I love it. If I had a record player, it would be one of the first vinyls I ordered.

Gener and Deaner have long referred to their music as "brown," as in
"this next song is really brown" or "it's so brown it's almost black."
The Pod is usually considered Ween's brownest album. The funky stuff is especially brown. Deaner's new album is brown. Anything real is brown.

The Ween site's FAQ isn't very clear, so I figured I'd give the definition a shot. Anyone else is free to let us know their thoughts on brownness here, obviously.

Wow this is great stuff, listened to Ween since the early 90's and loved them then, kind of fell out of touch after White Pepper, and I was the fool to do so, now in 2015 I am macking on Ween old and new, many great memories and parties thanks boys for I am now 40 and still rocking this stuff after a significant hiatus.
