    So an alcohol drink package works out to $2306.88 for two of us for an 8 day cruise. I cannot even begin to say how crazy that is. That is actually more than the cruise cost itself. Don't get me started on the RCL internet - $30 a day, vs $5 a day streaming on Princess.

      @@jandramiguel8825 your best bet is to just pay out of pocket for alcohol you drink, works out cheaper for me by 600.00 compared to what most cruise lines charge. Unless your a alcoholic and can consume 10 or more drinks a day.

    Recently went on Quantum. My family ate at the main dining room for all our meals except for lunch on embarkation day when we ate at windjammer. We found the food at the MDR much better than that of windjammer's. As an Asian, I would say to avoid the Chinese food as they don't tend to get it right, e.g. stir fried noodles, Singapore noodles, Asian fried noodles, etc. Special shoutout to the Indian food though, they were awesome, and I fondly remember the fish curry from the MDR.

    • @cberry6751
      @cberry6751 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree. Those restaurants are not worth the money. I love breakfast in the dining room because of the eggs Benedict & the calm atmosphere. The windjammer is great for lunch. Dinner in the MDR is perfect. Last month (March 2022), my adult son & I took the Wonder & spent over $300 additional for Izumi, Hooked & Mason Jar. We left most of our dinner on the plates & we skipped dessert. I don’t know why, but Izumi’s Spider Roll was not as good as those we get in Va. In Hooked, the baked oysters were not very tasty & the lobster tails were mealy. The waitress brought 2 more & they were mealy! The manager brought 4 !!! I took those back to the cabin because I was no longer hungry. We skipped dessert. As a southerner & BBQ lover, I can’t even tell you how bad the Mason Jar was. We didn’t eat our dinners. The waiter asked if he could bring something else. We declined. He asked if he could pack up our dinner to go. We said no & we skipped dessert AGAIN. We were so disappointed in the 3 restaurants we paid big money for, but the Windjammer, MDR & the Taco Bar are delicious!!! I love a good hot dogs & was excited to see a little hot dog stand…then disappointed to find out they only offered mustard Or catsup! No relish, no onions, no coleslaw or chili. Very strange. I skipped the dogs.

    I've only been on one RC ship, but have two scheduled (Ovation then Mariner) for this year. I had a difficult time figuring out whether some of the smaller eateries were complimentary or charged a fee...places such as Cafe Promenade and Sorrentos. This video helped. :) My previous experience wasn't great in that I was told one thing by RC, but once on board the situation was different. I drink decaf coffee (including specialty) and Root Beer. Both were only to be found on place each on my previous ship.

    On my first RCI cruise, I did nothing but the buffet except for one night. I just was a bit intimidated by everything else, (I wish this channel had existed back then to inform me!) but I also found the times and varied selection more to my liking. Now that I've been on a few cruises, I usually do mostly the complimentary options, then maybe one or two nights will go to Izumi because I love sushi. Of course I always get a drink package as well, as I simply prefer to have a known, fixed cost.

    Hi Matt: just got off Wonder of the Sea 4/8/22,I see the dining room in your photos, Crew was Wonder-Full!! CoCo Cay Cuban Sandwich and Portobello Sandwich was good! Windjammer was a great venue, love the changes of flow traffic and washing at sinks, went to Solarium Bistro, Dog House, Wonderland, Giovanni’s, My Time dining, Cafe Promenade, on this trip. Could not get into Mason Jar :(…I loved two things: (1) vegetarian choices on windjammer walk in, and (2) lots of windjammer Indian food choices. Best thing ever… Lavazza coffee brand throughout the ship! I turned in my coffee card purchase -got a refund - when I saw the lavazza coffee brand in the windjammer! Windjammer Bakery near the entrance was a great idea!!! Donuts are freshest ever! Dining package was not available, would have bought one to visit Izumi and Chops…we have never been disappointed. I missed Playmakers, and Loco Taco.. looking forward to trying them in the future.

    There is so much to try, we have never done specialty dining on short (8 day or less) cruises, Besides, a day in a specialty restaurant is a day without the escargot. This year we have 3 cruises with a total of 44 cruise days so, since the menu pretty much repeats every 7 days, we will probably be dining in specialty restaurants by the third cruise.

    We became huge solarium dinner people on Odyssey (we also did chops and teppanyaki and enjoyed both). We had a bad experience the one time we tried the main dining room - both the food and service were not our style - we found it very hectic and rushed. Not my thing, I found the main dining room stressful.
    We kept going back to our friends in the solarium which was always almost empty after 8pm. We also loved teppanyaki, super fun and the food was actually better than I expected. I recommend room service breakfast, then windjammer buffet breakfast, sandwich or pizza at Sorrento's for lunch, then lunch buffet, then snack at Sorrento's later. Then hit the buffet for sushi and buffet for dinner, then MDR dinner, then Sorrento's pizza again later that night.

Some nights in the main dining room were better than others but generally the cuts of meat were not even Costco quality and there were weird substitutions like my cherries jubilee desert had no cherries in it. WTF. Windjammer is fine but there are often lines to get in and breakfast ended at 11:00 am. No breakfast was offered at Johnny Rockets and it was only open from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm - so basically just lunch - no late night burger or shakes for you. In fact after 9:00 pm the only included food that is still available was sorrentos pizza

      That’s disappointing to hear. I was on Harmony 4 years ago and this was not the case in my experience. I will be on the Navigator in September, I hope this will not be the case then.
      Back on the Harmony the food was top tier at all times at all venues and they had (yes, pizza) but also unlimited sandwiches, desserts, bagels and other various snack type foods well into the night, I’d say right around midnight. We dined in the main dining room, tried most restaurants and loved all of it. Perhaps the food quality went down recently due to covid? In any case I hope they figure it out because this was a very enlightening and disappointing comment to read. Sorry you went through that on you vacation.

    We are loyal to the MDR. Have grown to enjoy My Time instead of the traditional MDR. On lobster night, I pre-order a Chops filet steak. That way I get my chops steak on that special night. BTW I don't think much of the MDR lobster I have had on our last several cruises. For those who don't already know, the Chops steak and lobster in the MDR cost extra, but not as much as actually going to Chops.

    Speaking for Spectrum, the pizzeria is terrible, Windjammer is pretty bad. Wonderland is okay but not as fancy as it thinks it is and Teppanyaki is pretty bad too. Chef's table was pretty decent, though. Wines by the glass in particular have far too high a spoilage rate (flat for sparkling and vinegary for still) suggesting insufficient turnover and lack of attention by bar staff.

    I rely on the included food venues most of the time and do specialty dining 1-3 nights. A lot of times the specialty food items will be found in other venues on a different day. I’ll do a drink package if it’s part of a promo. My daily a la cart drinks are usually cheaper than the per day cost of the beverage package. Why does Royal ever offer a drink package or gratuities? Celebrity and Norwegian seem to give that away as a standard.
