Thank you so much, this is exactly what I needed. I have 2 young trees that branches cross over and I was looking for a solution on how to train them. This is invaluable!

The stakes and strings is exactly the technique I just used on my aunt's new cherry trees. I go home and felt a little unsure about what I did. Now I know it was a good choice. Thanks for the informative video!

Any follow up video for this tree, since it's been 9 months now? I'm in the southern hemisphere and I just bought a lime tree (and a peach and nectarine and fig and a pomegranate as well!) so I'm trying to get as much info as possible to educate myself and get the skills I need to care for them correctly.
By the way, I'm loving how your videos are really informative, and yet still manage to place your product so well.
    Nicely done! :)

Hi Charles. Is this technique suitable for finger limes? The general idea that I have of them is that they'll grow into a bush no matter how hard you try to shape or train them.

      Hello MORNING GARDENER'S SHOW,
Great to hear from you! I love your TH-cam and the many, many educational gardening topics you discuss! It's never too late to control the structure of your trees; however, the younger the better and easier. For older branches that cannot be pulled into a more "open form" may be pruned during the dormancy period over the course of a few years so that you do not shock the tree too badly, nor affect the regular annual fruit harvest significantly. Let me know if you have any other questions. Charles :-)

Hello Charles, my mexicola avocado sprouted out a new "tree" straight out from the bottom of the main stalk. it has grown as tall as the main mexicola tree and about 2 inches thick. it's really thriving and I'm wondering if it's taking all the nutrients from the main tree???? what's your take on this and would you let it grow or cut it off? also do you think if I did cut it off can it be rooted? thanks for your helpful tips and advice.

      Hello Jose,
All avocado trees sold at nurseries by name, for example, Hass, Fuerte, Beta... and Mexicola are grafted trees. The grafts are typically made only a few inches above ground level. If the sprout is below the graft, then it is a random avocado variety that started as a seed. It may bear fruit-- but is will be unpredictable size, flavor, yield, etc. If the tree was mine, I would remove the sucker growth-- so as you said above, the nutrients, water, etc go toward the grafted known to perform Mexicola tree. Regarding the cutting, I have not had much success with cutting and rooting avocados. Even if it does work, you are ultimately going to want to graft it to a know variety of avocados. Hope this help! Have a great weekend! :-)
