That was a good vid and helped me separate mine on my 66 comet. also just a friendly tip, I don't believe it's called a "Carter key" I've never heard anything but "cotter pin" I may be wrong but figured I would say something before someone else ruder did. Thanks again for the info. Love the stang!

I found this on the internet. It is a cotter key or cotter pin (not carter). In the United States, cotter pin (also known as a cotter key[1] or a split pin) is a metal fastener with two tines that are bent during installation, similar to a staple or rivet. Typically made of wire with a half-circular cross section, cotter pins come in multiple sizes and types. I like 66 Comets neat small cars.

The TRW brand are extremely reliable and long lasting,,My Mitsubishi came from the factory with TRW hardware all round,,the shocks,,,,,,all the bushings,,,,,and all the brake components ,,The car has 160k miles on it with all original components still going strong,,The only thing I replaced were pads and disks....

Liked the detail here! Doing my upper ball joints this weekend. Was there a reason you didn't compress the spring using a compression tool to avoid having to have the extra help when we assembling?

Then you will have to remove the shock to put my spring compreser in. Shocks do not like to come out. Just easier to do it this way.

@@TheGAutomotiveAndMore i understand. just was curious on the safety side of things with the potential of the block coming loose and the spring then popping out and well... having to schedule a dental appointment! LOL

That is the other reason I do it this way. The shock is in the middle of the spring so it can not pop out.

You need to check everything in the front end and see what's worn out. Be sure to check the strut rods.
