Dude you keep getting better. That switch heel out of the flat bank was nice. Makes an old guy like me want to start doing flip tricks again. Thanks for inspiring a 43 old to skate more. 👍
Yeah me too dude.. N i'm 40 nxt month.. Skateboarding is kinda dead from where i live (Miri, Sarawak Borneo).. The tiny skatepark is always empty.. Kids nowadays are busy with those online games
Skating looking so steezy man. You have way more years of exp than i do but im 35, and seeing you rip like that a couple yrs older than me is a huge inspiration. Keep it goin!!!
@ThorekkI'm 45 and still going minus 2 years off with a broken pelvis and back. Look at Julien Stranger (49)who started Anti Hero and Grosso (51) who rides for them, both still killing it.
I'll be celebrating my 40th in a couple weeks. I still get out and skate 3 times a week. I'm not great, but I'm 10 times the skater now than I ever was as a teen. I'll never quit.
Man, you're for sure one of the best skaters in youtube period, all the things you try about decks and all the things you speaks make so much sense and is a truly inspiring thing to see! Today, I few the need of a new deck!
The review I was waiting for...To the "T" what I experienced sizing down (8.25, shorter wheelbase, too squirly) and also sizing up (felt like I was hucking flip tricks). Been skating this shape since it first dropped, and I paired it up with Indy 144s and it's been money! Good stuff as always, Ben!
You really helped me. I was just looking for a deck review on this brand before I bought it and this review really helped me make a decision. Thanks! Keep making sick videos
I bought an antihero deluxe deck and it has same dimensions as yours and I love the shape and it is my go to. Im getting back into it after I stopped skating in 92 when I got my first car job and girlfriend. Never wanted to quit just went that way. Got a black label and a creature deck but the anti hero is got these wide almost squared off nose and tail i love it. Hope I can track down a couple more like it.
Yo man, you are a huge inspiration. Your testing of products is really great thing for older guys who have enough money to spend some bucks on skateboard hardware every few months and really want the perfect setup for them. I'm now 27 yo dad who happens to be getting back on board again just to do flatground tricks (I also dont like much impact at my age already with my 94kg weight) and you are the only source of deep informations about skate setups out there and you can explain it very well plus you're sick skater with so many tricks in pocket and very spectacular style. Thanks for these videos and keep it up. Cheers from Czech Republic
Your humor and wit adds so much to your videos man. I have come so close to ordering a jalopy graphic. I don’t think the short wheelbase on that Cardiel would be in my papa bear zone though.
That half cab heel at 2:14. One of the nicest ones I've seen! Skate what you enjoy skating Ben! I know a lot of your subscribers enjoy your carpentry perspective on skating, but personally I just enjoy seeing an old fart like myself rip and get better.
Hey thanks for this awesome review. I just came back to skating after a long break and picked up this deck in 8.5. Not sure if there are too many differences but I’ve been loving them with my thunder lights 149. Been having a blast trying to learn everything again. Thanks for inspiring me and getting me pumped to go out there again!!
Ben.. I pretty much have this same set up but on a 8.38 with 8.14 wheelbase, and 8.25 cast hollow ventures (they’re 53mm high so I put 1/8 real 3ply risers to put them at about 55mm),, I also put a few washers inside the wheel axle to make up for the slightly wider deck. The last thing to pinpoint is what kicks I prefer; I’m thinking mellower due to truck height/wheel size.. I like to start with 54mms and wear down to 53-52 for perfect feel since the 54s have a wider contact patch this is for park general ripping
There are some 8.38ths board sizes with a 14.125 wheelbase. FA/hockey has them. Chocolate had a shape for Elijah Berele. AWS 8.5 also has a 14.125. You might note this also my preferred wheelbase, but I don’t think the shapes are like dlx boards. Oh and I think blood wizard hat a 8.25 that’s 14.125. I think, but I might be wrong, they use bbs/gen woood.
Thanks... For telling me exactly what I wanted to hear.. I have been watching your wheel base videos trying to make sense of my own set up ( anti hero 8.25 with 14.5" WB on Indy 149). Looks like I'm getting a new board
I've ridden this shape a few times, it's really nice (Pfanner boards run this shape) #Numbers Edition has an 8.28*31.75 with 14.125WB in their current line-up (steep feeling too) - Also Ben, just watching you skate you can tell you are more comfortable on that setup, it's in your body language.
Thanks for the video Ben, I want to get an Antihero deck but having a hard time finding one I like with the dimensions I'm looking for. Can't find 14.25 wheel base, only 14 or 14.5.
I skated this exact board for a few weeks on some 139 titanium Indy’s and it was super light and comfortable. My local got a special deal from the distro so he still has a stack of this same board with different Roman numerals and top ply colors. I switched to a different board that is South Central wood and it’s noticeably heavier and feels clunky. I may be going back to the shop soon to grab another one of these. Cheers!
Bro how tall are u? I'm asking cuz u look like a tall dude, I'm 6,2 and I really struggled to land bolts comfortably until I went up to at least 32" board length..anything less and I get right sloppy and it feels like just overall my feet are to close. Like setting up for flip tricks feels wonky af and then im landing all stiff legged..I'm just curious cuz u don't seem to have any issues with shorter boards-lol are u like shorter than u look in footy bro? Ay dope channel btw..sick product reviews and sicker skating good shit homie🤘
I'm 6 feet. I started skating in the short board era so it might be easier for me to adjust. Lately though I've been feeling the same about boards around 32". 32 is just where I like it right now.
This is a great video. I too, have begun to learn the importance of wheelbase; I never knew how crucial this was for me, until I got on a board whose WB was 14.5. It felt like trying to skate an ironing board, it felt like it took forever to get the nose in the air after popping the tail. I was thinking it was width that mattered the whole time, I could skate an 8 to an 8.5 with the same WB as long as it was 14.2 or less. And my favorite board thus far, since getting back into skating in 2014 has been an Anti Hero, Chris Pfanner, 8.3 width and 14.2 WB. Perfect in every way.
This is the same setup I’ve been riding for about 3 years, it feels so good in all the right ways. I can get tech on a ledge, hit some tranny, or take it to slappys with no issues. Stoked you feel the same!
The Eric Koston, Numbers (Edition 5) series is 8.25 wide, 31.75 long with a wheelbase of 14.125.. Medium concave.. Haven't ride them, still on my Wknd & Real deck
Love your board reviews! Keep em coming and tell us more!!! Like you give the complete run down of the board it self and the 1-4 press thing I was not aware of and iv been skating for almost 20 years now. I just started getting into wheel shape board width and concave and correctly sized trucks. Then you even give detailed feelings when doing a trick or this board is better for this this and that it would suck for this that or this. Iv learned a lot from your skateboard reviews keep up the amazing work🤘🏻
It's good to hear you've enjoyed your setup. I'm about to try a 8.5 x 32, 14.25 wb shop deck on indy 169's and slightly used bones 53's. If this doesn't improve my confidence on curbs and short ledges, nothing will. It would be neat to see you using a 8.5+ for some big dirty flat bar action and bs 5o's at your old "the ledge" spot
Hello Ben, i've watched this several times. That deck is a beauty. I've got the newer one from Real. Do you think thunder hollow lights would fit this deck or you prefer the indys on this inbetween wheelbase?
Back on the board after long 12 years and now have anti hero 8.06 daan board and grimple stix 8.28, i never had them all those years ago but like you are saying perfect shape! Slowly all the tricks coming back too
14.25 with Thunders work great for me. I've had Indys on before and my treflips had basicly no pop anymore. Thanks to your wheelbase videos i've fixed it.
Duuuude! I've been looking for this shape for so long since this video came out, it's so rare. But Mason Silva's new Oval board for REAL S/S 2020 (the yellow Gonz art one) is near enough the same dimensions. It just stocked at my local, bought it so fast as soon as I read the description and saw 8.28x14.12x31.7! Soooo hyped to try it. Just thought I'd let you know in case you were after another one.
I just barely noticed that you twitch your head everyone time land a trick. I notice I point one finger when I do any tricks thought I was the only with quirks. You have badass style real clean. Dope.
I’m way shorter than you at 5foot 7inches. I was thinking a shorter deck around that size would be better for me just because my legs are short and I’d have more balance and not have to exaggerate my ollie/flick/stance with less distance to cover to reach the nose. Like you ever see a 10 year old riding a full size board abs their leg stance is super wide and it looks like it must be awkward riding such a long board? Interesting how a shorter board and wheelbase for a taller guy has such a positive effect as well. I find it hard to find boards under 32” but will def look for one on my next setup.
I literally just start skating my 8.28 anti hero (grimple stix) had these Krux 8.25 trucks on but gonna try my Indy 159 hollows on it the turn is just better
i love anti-hero, probably the best deck i have had. i would love to know what you think now. im about to get a new deck. i have heard anti hero is not so hot now.
I would love to see a review of ZERO, PRIME HERITAGE, DESTRUCTO, FURY TRUCKS, PIG Wheels, Sliding with rails. Thank you soo much for your reviews. Your reviews are the best.
Anyone have a suggestion on decks with this shape and dimensions (length, wheelbase)? I like what I see and want to find out if it would improve my tre flips but I’m having a tough time searching decks online since most shops don’t list those details. The deck in this video seems unavailable for sale in Canada now.
hey ben, when you have a new deck and set it up with a set of trucks, how long would you skate it until you decided to try that deck with a different pair of trucks?
i love these boards too back in the day my Goldie locks zone was 7.62x31.5 and really only went 31.5 because i coudnt get Popsicled with that length lol now i ride 8.5x anything under 32 ....
@@bendegros see, this is where it gets weird. Now we are asking them to do the leg work. Adding the step of the company needing to contact you will greatly reduce the chance of you actually receiving support. I contact a company and say, "there is a great TH-cam channel by Ben D, i think he could do a solid review on your XXXX." Then they say, "sure we can do that where do we send XXXX." Then we will say, please contact him on Instagram for follow on instructions. That is where the momentum of support will die. Most companies will not take rhe time to conduct the reach out part.

If your so inclined just tell them to message me on Instagram. I'm just not into fielding requests but would happily accept things from a company.
Can you pick a certain number 1 through 4 to get in those boards?
