The identical hand motions for what happens with flour in a fast mixer 🥰 oh, my heart. Y’all are precious! And Jess, your smile brightens every time you are around your babies ❤️ Keep doing what you’re doing, mama.
I love the way you look at him. You emanate such love and pride for your boy, and it is so incredibly precious and heartwarming... and the pretzels look very yummy! 😊
Aw, Jess! What a special time with your eldest. Also, seeing your boys grow so much over the years makes me think of what a blessing you will be to all the future lovely ladies that get you as their MIL - you have a beautiful family!!❤
It's such a joy to cook with our kids! Thank you for letting us in to your kitchen, Jackson 💕💕 I so enjoy cooking with my son, too. (20 years my younger) And my daughters 😉😉
I’m going to need you to do a “blackstone” series lol …. Invite guest chefs such as Jackson’s Steak marinade and cooking method, Miah’s favorite & of course yours, some hibachi recipes and whatever the younger boys love! (That’s my content creation suggestive contribution 😂😂😂). 💚
Watching you with your first born brings me to tears! My first born is astranged from our entire family (for reasons unknown) and this is just the sweetest video of you and Jackson! Been watching since nearly the beginning of roots and refuge and I just love watching them all grow! AND the gardening content but if I'm honest, I am partial to the family content! Haha ❤😂
Hi Jackson, so nice to see you pop into a video 👋🏼 we love pretzels in this house, but it’s always intimidated me, I may give this a try Jess! We like them extra salty dipped in warm butter ❤ hope everyone is nice and cozy and have lots of warm tea on this chilly weekend.
I've been following Roots and Refuge and honestly, i could not believe that was Jackson! He got your beautiful smile. My son and I love baking days (he's only 3.5 lol) and I hope he still enjoys them when he's older.
When i heard his deep voice I almost giggled. He's very reassured and mature now. It's always amazing watching the transition into adulthood. Thank you Jess for sharing
I have a 24 year old son who is a restaurant manager in his first general management position. I have a picture of him probably a little past his 2nd birthday, very happily pinching fat into the flour to make biscuits with flour all over a black sweater and on his face. By the time he was 10-12, he was the designated carver of all meats and when he gets a break from work - which is rare, we still connect while cooking.
What a wonderful treat to see Jackson participate in your video. This is how life is, making food and looking after your animals and family... Food is the most important,
I found your channel about six years ago,my word Jackson has grown into a fine young man, as the old folks say. This video is awesome,I love The Farmer's Table as much as R.andR., especially when one of the kids gets involved. 😊
I've been making homemade pizza and the homemade soft pretzels on New Year's Eve ever since my adult children were little. My adult kids spent New Year's Eve with me so we could continue the tradition. Warms my heart! We make a bunch of different dips for the pretzels (cheese, various mustards, etc).
I use the same Sally's recipe! I do an egg wash though and they come out with the pretty pretzel brown. Tell Jackson, I vote bites, too! I love the dynamic y'all have. My son is 18 and Jackson reminds me of him so much! Thanks for doing this video together! ❤
I am so happy Jackson joined you- I bet your heart melted the whole time. ❤ I don’t have a stand mixer just one of those hand ones from way back when.. I really need to save up for one! I feel like I miss out on so many fun recipes lol
Happy New Year! Watching Jackson cook was enjoyable. He knew what he was doing and not waiting for you to tell or show him what to do. Very handsome young man. Ann, 73, Coastal southeastern North Carolina.
Oh they look so good, Now I am craving some! Decades ago I worked in a mall and right outside the store was one of the soft pretzel kiosks, I always knew when she was making a fresh batch from the smell of them cooking so I got to be the first one there to buy one, with mustard of course! Thank you for bringing back a long forgotten memory ❤
Thanks for spending some time with us Jackson and Jess💖 I live in Delaware and we don’t always get much snow. It snowed 8-10 inches. My grandson had an extra 7 days off he goes back to school on Monday 😂 It cracks me up because I grew up in Philadelphia, we got a good amount of snow, after one day we would have walked to school 😂
Oh my heart❤! What a handsome you man. Mama he’s a delight! Thank you for sharing this precious time with us. I love soft pretzels. I’ve made them before and they were ok. I’m going to give this recipe a try. These look delicious. I grew up eating pretzels with salt and butter but we put yellow mustard on them. Parents were from Upstate NY. I’ve lived in NY, PA, OH, MO, IL, but I currently live in IL. Maybe it’s a regional thing. Most people around here eat them with a cheese sauce.
😂I remember watching soft pretzels with Jackson so many years ago and my kids loved them! ❤ Cooking cat fish nuggets and sweet potato fries for dinner tonight while I watch this video. Thank you for the laughter! 😊
Old enough to be Jackson's grandmother. 😊 I have always-wanted to learn to make homemade mall pretzels. Thanks so much for the lesson. Have a great new semester at college.
What a treat to see Jack stay an entire video to show us how to make pretzels! Good luck on your next semester! Maybe when you have some down time this summer you can show us how you cook a steak 😁
💚 Yay, so special to have Jackson in the vlog with you, Jess! I used to make pretzels with our German Club in High School, it was always fun and felt "fancy"! 😅💚
Yessssss! I've been making the pretzel recipe you and Jackson posted on R&R for my kids, since the day you posted it! It's one of their favorite snacks. We make them weekly!
I know you don't make shaped pretzels very often, but a tip that works great to help keep your pretzel shape is to refrigerate your pretzels after shaping, uncovered in the refrigerator for about an hour. They form a skin that helps keep the shape, whether you are boiling them or dipping them in a lye solution.
Welcome Jackson!! I love how comfortable you are with your mamma in the kitchen. My granddaughter goes to SC Columbia too and absolutely loves it there. We always made pretzels together too. Love this!!
I attempted to make bagels once and had a real struggle with it but after watching your video I believe I'm going to try it again it looked way more simplistic than what I would attempted to do several years ago when I tried to make it so yeah I anticipate having a fun experiment in my kitchen again thank you
Ahhh!!! Yum, my favorite!! Quick tip, you don’t actually need to boil the pretzels. I just use a water soda bath in a pie plate, and they turn out just as good!
❤❤❤ seeing Jackson on camera with you!!! My sweetie really likes soft pretzels I may have to try this. My 12-year-old granddaughter has started cooking and baking. She did pretzels a few months ago. I shared this video with her. Also, Sally’s Baking Addiction has great recipes that always come out right. I love it when I’m looking for a recipe and it’s on her site.
I’ve been following y’all over on Roots & Refuge for a good five years now and I cannot get over how fast our kids have grown in that time. My goodness. Lovely to see Jackson join you today! What a sweet surprise!❤
The pretzels look great. I love pretzels, but I have never made my own. I definitely need to try this. It is good to see Jackson. Kids grow up too fast, and you have to cherish every moment with them.
So fun to see Jackson in a video! I was just baking with my little boys today! 😊 I can't wait to try this recipe with them! Thanks so much for a fun video! Hope you have a great semester Jackson!
😂 our son was supposed to go back yesterday, and his flight was canceled. So today, he is able to get from Augusta to Atlanta, but the flight to CA isn't until tomorrow am, hopefully. That storm was such a joy, lol.
Thank you for this video Jess. I just watched a video on the art of pretzel making in Germany. The lye gives pretzels the brown color. It's interesting to me that I've just showed an interest in pretzels and never voiced it but so many videos came about from it. Take care Jess. I bless you.
If you haven't, you have to try Erin Jean McDowell's pretzels. And all of her baked goods! She and ChainBaker are absolutely the best for going deep to thoroughly explain all of the HOWs and WHYs rather than just give recipes. I also love how Erin goes over the most common mistakes and how to prevent or fix them.
I loved this interaction with you two! Although I don't seem to see the link to the seven year old Jackson's video. Could you please link that? Have a wonderful Semester Jackson and video more cooking etc with mom when you come home again please. That's Jessica for sharing this special time and knowledge with us your viewers. ♥
Jackson! It’s so good to see you!!! But your Mom needs to make cinnamon sugar pretzels…..they’re SO good! Also….make your mom take most of the pretzels back to school with you! (I’m a Grammie who loves young men your age…..have a grandson who is about a year younger.). Best of luck in school and to Mom with home schooling!!! ❤❤❤
What a sweet episode! Love it! It inspired me to try these today with my kids. I have everything except the pretzel salt. I have some thick kosher salt that we will try instead. I think it should work if I salt them after buttering like you did.
Kosher salt is a great alternative to pretzel salt! Also, if you are using salted butter and dipping in cheese or something, you won't notice the pretzel salt missing
So glad I happened to have made pretzel bites yesterday! They were so tasty. I did an egg wash before baking, but definitely want to try a butter dip...yum.
Jackson, I was sitting there thinking what a wonderful kid, and then that blasphemous statement about how gross the pretzel would be dunked in butter... I just.. LOL
What a handsome and charming young man! Thanks for gracing us with your presence, Jack. Those pretzels looked so yummy!! Happy New Year!!
Thank you Jackson for the pretzel lesson. That’s so heartwarming when one of your children are cooking with you in the kitchen. ❤️🙏
Jackson has his momma’s bright smile 🤭❤️❤️ I love when the first kid favors their mom.
The identical hand motions for what happens with flour in a fast mixer 🥰 oh, my heart. Y’all are precious! And Jess, your smile brightens every time you are around your babies ❤️ Keep doing what you’re doing, mama.

Jess you just glow and light up over your babies!! Loved this video so much !! He looks like his momma !! Especially the smiles ! 😊
I so love seeing Jackson cooking with you. Nothing better than cooking with your kids. I pray he is enjoying his college experience!❤
Thank you, Jessica and Jackson. From a grandmother who misses her kids, this is heartwarming.
What a blessing to see your first baby jamming in the kitchen with you 🥰.
I bless you until next time too Jess 🙌
Hi Jackson, so nice to see you pop into a video 👋🏼 we love pretzels in this house, but it’s always intimidated me, I may give this a try Jess! We like them extra salty dipped in warm butter ❤ hope everyone is nice and cozy and have lots of warm tea on this chilly weekend.
That sounds wonderful! I've always liked cheese sauce, but I do love butter, so I bet that would be great!
Thank you Jackson- from all of us, and your Mama. Ohh, that smile.
This was one of my favorite videos to watch! Loved seeing you with Jackson!

Excellent seeing you two work together, laughing and smiling.
Good to see you, Jackson. Have a great semester!
Now every time I eat a pretzel, I will think of you and Jackson making them. How wonderful.... 😍🥰💕
What a wonderful treat to see Jackson participate in your video. This is how life is, making food and looking after your animals and family... Food is the most important,

Hi! Jackson
You definitely look so… much like mom. It’s great to see both of you together making pretzels.
Happy times!
It was great to see Jackson bake with you, Jess! Thanks for your appearance & help for the yummy pretzel making! Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦🌲
Lol, you and Jackson did the same “ flour all over” hand motion at the same time! Well done grasshopper💜
I laughed at that while editing
Happy New Year! Watching Jackson cook was enjoyable. He knew what he was doing and not waiting for you to tell or show him what to do. Very handsome young man. Ann, 73, Coastal southeastern North Carolina.

Those look great. Love your Jackson helping you make them. Will be trying these probably next week. Hearts and flowers coming your way. ❤️💐

It really feels like just yesterday that he was tiny!
I've been all over Sally's website trying to figure out what to make next. Her blog is excellent! Maybe I'll get to these tomorrow. 😊
Sally’s got some really great recipes! I've never had something from her not turn out right
@ I've done her bagels twice this past week and the wheat bread. 🤣
This was special! Thankyou Jess and Jackson! Looks delicious!
Thank you, Jackson and Jess! They look wonderful and I will be trying this. Blessings.
So nice to see Jakcson!! I loved to wach the two of you ❤
I have so much cheese sauce that I didn’t know what to do with … now I do!! 😍 thanks for sharing, this looks delicious!
That is exactly what I would do with extra cheese sauce 😂
I can totally see a family resemblance in Jackson’s smile…he has your smile, Jess! Check it out, especially at the 58 second time stamp.
The pretzels look great. I love pretzels, but I have never made my own. I definitely need to try this. It is good to see Jackson. Kids grow up too fast, and you have to cherish every moment with them.
An egg wash before baking gives them a beautiful golden color. There is nothing like a fresh baked pretzel.
Loved this video ! Your son has your smile !!! 😃 😊
So fun to see Jackson in a video! I was just baking with my little boys today! 😊 I can't wait to try this recipe with them! Thanks so much for a fun video! Hope you have a great semester Jackson!
Happy bonus snow day with your boy ❤️

Can’t wait to try these!! Been looking for a good recipe, specifically no mall required. ❤

I LOVE soft pretzels!!! I have never dared to make them myself though. Looks pretty simple. Cheese sauce is an absolute requirement though LOL
Bonus! Jess, and company, two times in one day! ❤️❤️❤️my beautiful 47 year old daughter made pretzels at Jack’s age. At Auntie Anne’s 😉
You two had me smiling and tearing up! ♥

January thing?! I am craving a soft pretzel. Off to Google for a recipe and here you are posting just in time.
Thanks for taking us along. I just might try this.
Have a great semester, Jackson
I want to definitely find some sites to make good bread out of fresh milled flour for sure! If you ever figure it out you will have to share!❤
Funny, my nephew Jackson's favorite thing to bake with me is soft pretzels. Must be a Jackson thing!
Making Blessed memories!
Oh yummy. I love soft pretzels ❤

Sally's Baking Addiction is one of my go-to websites. I've not gone down the path of bagels or pretzels there. Thanks for the info!
So much fun, ty for sharing. May God bless 💙💙
