Absolutely enchanted by 'Pictures of You' from The Cure's iconic 1989 album 'Disintegration.' This track is a beautiful example of how simplicity in music can create profound emotional depth. It's built around a core set of four chords - A, E, D, G - that weave a repetitive, mesmerizing pattern throughout the song. What truly sets it apart, though, is not just the chords themselves, but the way The Cure layers these simple progressions with rich textures and atmospheric effects. The guitar work, bass lines, and percussion all intertwine to create a soundscape that's both haunting and deeply moving. It's a testament to the band's genius in crafting a sound that's complex in emotion yet straightforward in structure. This song isn't just about the chords; it's about how they're played and the mood they create. It's a perfect example of The Cure's ability to convey powerful feelings through seemingly simple musical choices.

I have to disagree with you on that. I love The Cure and saw them live in the early 90's at William and Mary. All they did was just stand there and barely moved. You could not understand a thing Robert said in between songs. It was one of the worst concerts I have ever been to. I still love them but will never pay to go see them.
@@StephenBard Then you clearly never listened to them live. Bands don't have to bounce around on stage to be interesting. And after you listen to them talk a lot, you understand what they are saying most of the time. It took me a while to be able to decipher most of what Robert says, but sometimes it is also just hard to hear people when they talk live. It is a shame that you have chosen such petty reasons to miss out on one of the best live bands out there. Especially in their prime. They are not nearly as good now as they were in the early to late 90s. But you go ahead and keep on having your weird arbitrary reasons to judge people, and keep seeing bands that are actively checking their fitbits during shows, and I'll watch people who focus on playing well and sounding good. And who actually write and play music I like. And clearly you didn't watch Simon as he doesn't usually stand still that much.

The reason his voice sounds like it did in the 80s is simple. He's one of those rare singers whose voice is true when singing. Meaning, his singing voice is more or less his talking voice amplified
The ending chord progression over which that lyric is sung is awesome. And when the change to it comes, it's just magic. After hearing mostly the same few chords for the preceding several minutes, the closing phrase hits like a hammer.
Here is 2023 and I was so damn lucky to see them 2 times in less then 4 months!! ❤❤❤❤I’m Chicago at Allstate arena and then Riotfest……..they are still amazing after all these decades!! Timeless!!
Taking my kids to see The Cure at Madison Square Garden in June, hoping they will play this! It truly is one of my fvorite songs of all time, and the feelings it conjures are timeless.
What a ridiculous thing to say. I bet you're the kind of person that only ever listens to old records & thinks they're in the position to comment on the music of today There are some absolutely incredible young bands kicking about, boomer
This is my favourite song by The Cure and I find it spine tingling from the moment I hear it to the very end of the song. I got into The Cure as a young boy via my older sister and loved this then, love it even more now. It never ages and the chords can take you to those places of a time gone by and I had two very close friends who loved The Cure and they are both sadly no longer with us. I will never forget Sue or Mack and I know they both loved this song and band. I hope they are looking down now as I remember them both so fondly .
It was at summer camp 1990, I was the maintenance man and she was one of the camp counselors for the youngest kids, the minnows, we called them; such a huge crush on her, and when we finally started dating it truly was a dream come true what a great summer that was! But, summer camp ended and so did the maintenance man and camp counselor relationship. :-( to this day I wonder how she’s doing, I only hope she’s happy and doing well… this song will always remind me of Dawn. :-)
Drove across the USA from Vancouver to Toronto during two January 1991 cold days with a badly broken leg. No frills money, just enough to pay for gas to get back to friends in Toronto. Played this album over and over and over again to keep me awake and made it within 48 hours arriving just in time as money for gas was no more. Wonderful memories and thanks to Robert & Co. for getting me through that amazing ordeal, but really not an ordeal as I look back at it now 30 years later in 2020. It was pure pleasure to share that ride with The Cure.
@@wyattlavigne Sure was man. I had trucker friends who later said they just simply did not believe me. lol I did it and clocked about 140 to 150 kilometres per hour at least almost the whole way. Not sure if they have that going anymore, been living in Asia for the past 16 years. A gander at my shattered leg in a cast and my crutches and maybe I would have gotten sympathy and no ticket? Nah. Way faster than our American neighbours. Speaking of fast, thanks for the swift reply. Cheers man!
From a teenager I've always loved songs of sadness so "Disintegration " album was right up my street. Lots of beauty in sadness even when I've reached 68.
I used to be posing and so selective in my favorite music's. Now I'm 50 and I relise how much time I was an idiot. I assume lately my love for the Cure that I would listen to in my bedroom hidden and shameful at the time. What an idiot I used to be. Now I have a little less than probably the half of the rest of my life to assure how much I do love their music. It's always time to grow in our minds.
I want this played at my funeral. The Cure is my favourite 80s band and this is one of my fav Cure songs. They sound the same as they did back in the 80s. amazing.
Hi Every-viewer of this Channel... for me Robert Smith & His Crew have created almost Masterpieces .. Respect for Robert and I want to say "Thank You" for everything
I remember one late summer night my mom driving me and my brother home after an evening at my grandparents and playing with my first cousins this had to be 1990 or 1991 and this beautiful song comes on the radio, I was like 12 years old and really getting into music as any teenager does. It was such a beautiful end to a summer night. I’m so glad my mom listened to different types of music.
When this show was streamed live, in the Uk it was around 11am. TV turned up to 100% volume, copious amounts of alcohol to hand, I danced, leaped and cried, depending on the song. I’ll never forget the moment they began playing 2 Late, one of my absolute favourite songs. I can’t afford to see the band live anymore but that was a momentous event, took me back to my younger days (and yes, I was hammered by the end 😂).
Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass ich The Cure auch heute noch so gerne hören würde wie vor über dreißig Jahren mit Anfang zwanzig. Einfach nur klasse und einzigartig...
The intro is one of the greatest of all time. I'm a listener of very eclectic music tastes including psychadelic metal like "Tool" but this is the best intro of a song ever. Hands down. Tool is the greatest band ever, but, this song alone may be better than anything tool ever made. To put it into perspective, I'm a fan of modern and old pop rock, punk, pop punk, psychadelic metal, psychadelic rock (young and old), grunge etc. It's crazy how good this song is.
Still brings shivers to me when I hear the opening chords. Brilliant lyrics then come to solidify a fantastic song. A depth to the lyrics that are underappreciated... not just another pop song.
This takes me back 35 years, so great, they never seem to grow old. Robert's voice still is like he just produced this song.. Beautiful, thanks for sharing it with us. It literally brought tears to my eyes listening to it. They just don't make music like this anymore, unfortunately. I hope I can find the full concert one day here on TH-cam. Thanks!
It's hard to imagine the songwriter phrasing the words to a song written over 30 years ago with such nuanced feeling, but Robert really does that in this performance. That makes all the pain and heartache I was overcome with during a difficult period 20 years ago, during which I listened to this song countless times, ring that much more true.

The ending chord progression over which that lyric is sung is awesome. And when the change to it comes, it's just magic. After hearing mostly the same few chords for the preceding several minutes, the closing phrase hits like a hammer.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
…than to feel you deep in my heart
Life is so hard, thank you The Cure for helping me process it all.
So privileged to be a teen, in the classic era of music. The Cure is one of the best live bands, you will ever see.
Here is 2023 and I was so damn lucky to see them 2 times in less then 4 months!! ❤❤❤❤I’m Chicago at Allstate arena and then Riotfest……..they are still amazing after all these decades!! Timeless!!
I had the pleasure meeting Robert back in the early 80"s great guy!
Absolutely sublime. One of the most beautiful songs ever 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Taking my kids to see The Cure at Madison Square Garden in June, hoping they will play this! It truly is one of my fvorite songs of all time, and the feelings it conjures are timeless.
They will. It’s the second song. I took my daughter to the concert in Houston last week. Amazing show. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!
You're probably there now?
This is what I call real musical creativity. None of these new gen kids can come even close to this
They truly take you for an amazing musical journey. Then BAM, the voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a ridiculous thing to say. I bet you're the kind of person that only ever listens to old records & thinks they're in the position to comment on the music of today
There are some absolutely incredible young bands kicking about, boomer
They can, we just never get to hear it. All that comes out is evermore homogenized. Blame the music business.
I agree, probably because Robert is a one off, which is why the Cure can never be pigeonholed and never will, 👍
My favorite song all the time, I told my daughters "When a died please play that song in my funeral, thank you THE CURE for this BEATIFUL song.
Disintegration is such a great album....
Man is blessed with a timeless voice!! Amazing
Love the intro for about 35 years now
Beautiful
This man's voice never changes because hes magical and it seems he can flawlessly transcend time itself.
Such a beautiful song! Robert Smith’s vocals and talent haven’t aged. Simply amazing!
Hello, I really appreciate the love and support I get from you all my lovely fans
I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music 🎶❤
This is my favourite song by The Cure and I find it spine tingling from the moment I hear it to the very end of the song. I got into The Cure as a young boy via my older sister and loved this then, love it even more now. It never ages and the chords can take you to those places of a time gone by and I had two very close friends who loved The Cure and they are both sadly no longer with us. I will never forget Sue or Mack and I know they both loved this song and band. I hope they are looking down now as I remember them both so fondly .
Admiring how the drummer is running the base drum. I'd love to be a member of this band especially on stage at the Sydney O.H.
I shake my head when people say The Cure is one of the best bands of the 80's. No they're one of the best bands of any era.
Es gibt keine bessere Band auf der Welt als the cure. Sie sind kreativ gut und einfach wunderbar
If music is an art form, then THE CURE are grand masters and a whole lot more.
The legendary Robert Smith
When I have to explain to someone what perfection is .... I just play this song to that person
❤❤❤
I have 12yo and 17yo daughters who said that The Cure is the best band in the world.
12 years old.....!!!
Loving and losing is the worst thing and the best thing that can happen to you. 1989. Disintegration.
They sound as good now as they did back in the 80's... Timeless
Only gets better with age! Thanks Robert!
Proof that great creative naturally born talent never ceases to please.
He is a musical genius! This music was written a long time ago but is haunting and captures the emotion of reminiscing of a lost love.
I saw the Cure and the Pixies together in 22. 65 yrs. Old and it made me 24 again for one night. MAGICAL.
I really hate getting older, but feel really blessed that I grew up in the 80's and 90's! 😊
My favorite Cure song
When you feel a song is too good, and makes you cry...The Cure.
68 year old Irishman ....this song always make me cry like a child ... from a beautiful man Robert and Mary a gift to the world ...thank you both .
Amazing sound and emotion. It’s all there. The Cure is one of the great bands of all time.
Royden Bellman 48 hours is hauling!
1991 was such an eventful year
@@wyattlavigne Sure was man. I had trucker friends who later said they just simply did not believe me. lol I did it and clocked about 140 to 150 kilometres per hour at least almost the whole way. Amazing I never got a speeding ticket. Did not sleep a wink, ran on pure adrenaline out of necessity and the beautiful tunage.
@@roydenbellman my dad did it three times. 57 hours was his best. 110 or so he said was his average. Grats on no ticket.
@@wyattlavigne Cool. Was driving a Volkswagen Jetta, one of those driveaway deals they had at the time where you drove mainly old folks cars cross country for a fee. Not sure if they have that going anymore, been living in Asia for the past 16 years. No driving for me over here man. :) And yes thanks for the grats, lol, incredible I did not get stopped by a nasty cop with distaste for my long hair and look. A gander at my shattered leg in a cast and my crutches and maybe I would have gotten sympathy and no ticket? Nah. Cops are cops in the States and Canada, ha ha, remember crossing the Peace Bridge in Buffalo I think it was and being stunned by how fast ppl were driving in and around Toronto especially the QEW. Way faster than our American neighbours. Speaking of fast, thanks for the swift reply. Cheers man!
From a teenager I've always loved songs of sadness so "Disintegration " album was right up my street. Lots of beauty in sadness even when I've reached 68.
As I have reached 65 and still darn good at his age as well!💜🎸🥰
Simon is the matrix of this song!!! Bass line is pure magic!
The guitar on this song is majestic.
As a 56 year old, this reminds me of what a great era of music and bands I grew up in……
I want this played at my funeral. The Cure is my favourite 80s band and this is one of my fav Cure songs. They sound the same as they did back in the 80s. amazing.
"You were Bigger and Brighter than Snow"... PEACE LOVE N RESPECT TO EVERYONE!! MUCH LOVE !!!
My God, how beautiful is that ? Thank You Robert Smith and The Cure
Hi Every-viewer of this Channel...
for me Robert Smith & His Crew have created almost Masterpieces ..
Respect for Robert and I want to say "Thank You" for everything
Robert Smith guitar shredding and singing us into the unseen realm!!!!!!!!
I’m so glad my mom listened to different types of music.
omg his voice only gets better......unreal and fab!!!!
Disintegration is one of my all time favorite CD's. Masterpiece.
Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass ich The Cure auch heute noch so gerne hören würde wie vor über dreißig Jahren mit Anfang zwanzig. Einfach nur klasse und einzigartig...
This song reaches deep down inside me and grabs my heart....
The bass line it's amazing!!
Masterpiece by the Cure!
this isn't just a song you can write. this is a song that is gifted to you from the universe.
Sounds like yesterday !!! Really is unbelievable :-)
I’m 60 and this song reminds me of my soulmate Dalby.
I saw the Cure in Edinburgh in 1984, (faith tour) absolutely brilliant, never forget that night, I’m 55 now (in 2020) 😂
Love it and iam 65 and love the cure,41 years and counting they must be doing something right
Diane Greene , hey! Diane , respect 👍🏴
Faith came out in 1981.
Robert Smith : thank you, my mistake
Quite possibly the most perfect song ever written.
The intro, oh the intro..
don huan it’s like a cool breeze...
It's crazy how good this song is.
yeahhhhh !!! the best intro i ever heard no doubt !!!!
Still brings shivers to me when I hear the opening chords.
Brilliant lyrics then come to solidify a fantastic song.
A depth to the lyrics that are underappreciated... not just another pop song.
Songs written, and sang, from the heart, are ageless.
I can’t think of a band that takes me out of myself, out of my head like The Cure. This song is a masterpiece.
Thanks!
what a voice right? like the day he wrote it
th-cam.com/video/mETpeERZWZc/w-d-xo.html
just pop this in to the You Tube search "the cure full concert"
@@GMan-Howick Thanks friend! I just saved this on my computer and placed this on my facebook, so I will always be able to see this. Many thanks!
Who'd knew that such a dark band would produce one of the most beautiful songs ever
So beautiful and haunting. I cried of happiness
Robert Smith’s talent is timeless!
The Cure 🎶🎶🎶🎶... Sir Robert Smith... With me since 1980... 'til eternity...
One of the best performances of all time
Such a perfectly put together song ...one of the best songs of all time ...along with Joy Divisions “ Atmosphere” and Smiths “I know it’s over “....
