    Instead of buying expensive cans of beans from the store, try cooking your dry beans and then dehydrate them. These "instant" beans can then be added to any dry soup mix and will basically be ready at the same time as any other vegetables in the pot.

    It is much more economical to vacuum seal the meals instead of mason jars and lids.
    First, put the mix in a small lunch bag (Cheap at supermarkets, get lots). Roll it up and put a piece of paper tape, scotch tape, whatever to keep it from unrolling. The reason for the bag is to protect your vacuum sealer from small particles from the soup mix that might damage the unit. This also works for beans, rice, flour, sugar, wheat berries and other powder like stuff.
    Place bag package in vacuum bag and vacuum seal.
    I use 8" wide rolls from Ebay. A 2 cup bag will fit snugly in the 8"wide bag.

    • @TinaGolik

      You can dehydrate store bought fruits, vegetables and meats in your oven. The beans I use are canned beans from the store ( they are precooked so will rehydrate faster when I make my soup) make sure your oven is on a low temp and expect to have your foods in it for many hours. You can buy pre dehydrated foods at the grocery store also. Many times it’s in the produce department or the bulk canned foods.

    I love making meals in a jar! I have collected dozens of recipes for them. Every other site I have visited says that you need to use up dehydrated meats quickly, or put it in the freezer. Or, they say to add the meat when you cook the meal, or do what I do, which is just put one of my pressure canned jars of meat with it. They don't recommend dehydrated meats for the jar meals. If you use freeze-dried meats, they say they will last longer, but they are very expensive. I ended up buying some on sale, but it was not budget friendly at all, LOL. Do you use your jar meals up quickly? People need to check into storing dehydrated meat for long periods. It would be a shame for the whole jar of food to waste, because the meat went bad. How long have you had that dehydrated meat last? I am anxious to hear your experience with this. Thanks! :)

      I haven’t ever had a problem with the hamburger.. maybe because I use a organic grass fed, super low fat hamburger? I make sure and rinse it extremely well too. I use my soups within a year generally, but have used it up to two years after making it. I’ve just ordered a freeze dryer and think this will be a better long term food storage solution. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Have a blessed day my friend. ❤️

      It’s an oxygen absorber. They are also called dry packs. They help not only keep your food dry in a jar, but also keeps it sealed. They pull all the oxygen out of the jar and it seals your lid. I also vacuum pack my jars for extra security. 😊

      Yes absolutely ! I’ve gotten a freeze dryer since I made this video and only use freeze dried ing. Now. The only thing I dehydrate is cinnamon sugar apple slices. My husband prefers them a bit chewy verses the crunch from the freeze dryer. Plus using freeze dried options gives a wider range of ingredients that can be used.

    Did you dehydrate the beans in taco soup or can they be purchased. Also the lentils and barley quick cooked version and dehydrated?

    • @TinaGolik
      @TinaGolik  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had said in the video about the beans. They are canned chili beans in a sauce. I dehydrated those in their sauce. Dry beans would take to long to cook after adding the water, but precooked beans from a can that have been dehydrated will cook really fast. The lentils and barley are both quick cook versions yes. I do have more soup in a jar recipes and will likely share them too. :)

      The mazola is chicken broth. I buy mine in the Mexican section at the grocery store. Its the best chicken flavored broth, and you get a lot for a really good price. @@TinaGolik Thanks - I'll look for that video with more recipes! I was following the ingredients list in the recipe and matching with the video. For example, at 2:45 you are holding a jar of what looks like Thyme, but it isn't listed in the ingredients. 2:58 shows a jar of what looks like parsley. 3:05 - unknown. 3:33 Quick barley. 3:48 Celery. If I'm wrong and they are listed, I'd like to know if I'm going batty. :-)
      Also, the ingredient list for the Beef and Barley soup says 2 pounds of hamburger (which I noticed your jar was labeled 2 pounds), but what is the measurement for that? (I don't package my dried foods necessarily to what it was raw.) Thanks!

    So using my vacuumed seal attachment and an oxygen absorber is good to make a meal in a jar with meat shelf stable or is there something else to do?

    • @TinaGolik

      This is the amount we like because we grow fresh parsley, then dehydrate it. Maybe cut the amount in half if its to much for you. :)

    • @TinaGolik
      @TinaGolik  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they can be stored in plastic if its for only a few months. If you want to store them for a year, or more, then its best to store them in a glass jar. If you put an oxygen absorber in with them, they will last longer.

    Thanks for sharing this information. I'm a single household so I would need to make these much smaller. Where can I find how many servings are in the quarts so I can divide it down. If the jars aren't vacuum sealed, how long are they shelf stable and if they aren't vacuum sealed would recycling plastic jars work? (I'm trying to make ends meet on social security of just over $1000 a month).

    • @TinaGolik
      @TinaGolik  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These recipes make between 7- 12 cups of soup. I’ve listed all the recipes in the description box and you can see how much water is added when heating it up. You can use oxygen absorbers if you can’t seal your jars with a vacuum packer. I also had seen a video for how to seal a jar with a bike pump?, or something like that. I think the video was on the prepsteaders TH-cam channel. If not you can probably type it into the search bar and it will pop up. I hope that helps. Have a wonderful day!

    So if I make these and line my cabinets with them, about how long do you think I can safely eat them without any problems? If I put an oxygen absorber in there, would it be the same as any other dehydrated food? Like five years?

    • @TinaGolik
      @TinaGolik  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I either add an oxygen absorber, or vacuum seal the jar. Yes they will last as long as the average dehydrated food.

      Some people enjoy drying their own foods because they are healthier without additives. After drying the foods (usually grown in our own gardens), they can be put together in meal forms like this video. :)

      I dehydrate the vegetables myself at home. They are very easy to make. you can also buy dehydrated vegetables in most grocery store in the emergency food supply area.
