Thank you, I'm glad you found it helpful. I prefer to do the thumb part first as I find it the most fiddly! So it's better if I'm not trying to work around the finger part as I do it!
Denise Weathington Thank you 😊 It was Euro Baby Babe Softcotton Worsted and I think the colour was 105. I bought it in a shop but I think it's available online and there are a few really nice colour mixes.
Baby girl I think it varies depending on location. The stitches I use (most of the time) are double crochet or treble crochet. But some places refer to these as single and double respectively. My double is the stitch with two loops on the hook, however, these may be referred to as single by some crocheters.

Thank you for posting this! I found your technique for finishing the thumb and then finishing the palm/fingers much easier to do than the reverse.

Both are the same just position the thumb on the other side if you're a purist. It can work if they're the same though just turned round.

In the u.s.a and Canada that stich is called single crochet. Other parts of the world call it double crochet.
