Thank you for sharing your process. I found a collection of pieced vintage fabric at the Goodwill bins. Looked at just joining the squares, but like yours they were not very well done…but it’s vintage fabric so I think I will follow your example and take them all apart and sew them together again. ❤
This has given me ideas for some blocks I found in my mom's stuff...don't know if they were hers or my grandmothers but I plan to put it together. There were cardboard templates in the box and they are hand pieced. I think it is a bowtie pattern. I don't have a stash of feed sacks but I'll do something with them! Thank you for completing the quilt...it's fabulous.
I quilted a top that my husband's childhood friend brought to me. It was found in a dresser at his grandmother's house many years ago. His cousin thought it was just rags. After I finished replacing pieces, putting it together, adding a border and quilting it is beautiful. Doug was very emotional and said his cousin can just be jealous!
I love this quilt!! Years ago my mother gave me a stack of double wedding ring blocks that she had kept for probably 50 years. They were so different in size that it was apparent I couldn't sew them together. I took them all apart and made two separate quilts out of them. They turned out fabulously!!!
Love that you rescued this beauty! Have you ever used BoNash to fix a hole. Just throwing that out there. You gave this orphan a beautiful ending. Use with joy!
It is so awesome that you are rescuing these old treasures! I can just picture a lady sitting and sewing the blocks by hand. My Grandma took scraps from my mom after she sewed our clothes and hand pieced crazy quilts. I can still see her sitting in her chair sewing. I can look at those tops and remember the clothes I wore after my mom sewed them! Unfortunately my Grandma didn’t see very well so the tops need to be reinforced! But I look forward to that! This quilt turned out so gorgeous! I love it!
I dearly love the old patchwork quilts. This was a wonderful labor of love. I appreciate how you walked us through your thought process, since every “rescue” will be different. I have some partially finished old blocks tucked away (eBay purchase) and a stash of feedsacks. Now I have some ideas from you on how to assess and put together a top from these treasures. Thanks!
Wow, what you did was amazing. I was very interested in making those same blocks with today's brighter colors. Thanks for taking the time to rescue that quilt.
What a labor of love, but it turned out beautiful! I loved that you got to "spend quality time" with your seam ripper! 😆 I'm going to remember that the next time it happens to me!
Hi, Shelley! This was charming. What I especially love is watching the creative process. You started with a pile of fabric and then made creative decisions at each stage-no doubt with the quilt telling you what it needed next! I love it when that happens. Thanks so much for sharing this process!
Very nice quilt! I have several rescued blocks and quilt tops some handmade some machine some both. I just had to rescue them! Thanks for the video and motivation to finish them
I really appreciate your chain piecing strategies. So efficient! It has me thinking about the best way to sew block components and rows as I work. I also appreciate your judgement calls on when to rip things apart. I have a vintage quilt top that, looking at it again, is going to require that courage to finish, lol.
I love redoing old quilts! The last one I did was a signature block quilt that I had to disassemble and replace all the sashing and cornerstones. Some of the signature blocks I had to repair and reembroider part of the name.
Great video. I'm happy that you were able to rescue and reuse so much of the original quilt. It must have been very rewarding to finish it and be able to display it. Thanks for sharing.
It looks great! God bless you for bringing it to its glory…..❤ I recently moved to a tiny home & had to part with partially done projects, I hope someone like you finds them.
One of my most prized treasures is an unfinished quilt top pieced by my great-grandmother. She would have been astounded to know that its value is now greater than her annual income was in the early part of the 20th Century.
Thank you for taking us tbrough your process for refashioning these beautiful squares! Loved every minute. I have sometimes slipped a small piece of double sided fisible into a hole or tear on older quilts. Another way to repair that blends seamlessly if the damage isn't extreme.
Loved the peaceful music timed with your sewing. Very apropos for saving a vintage quilt. You always do such great work and take the time to both show and explain the process. Love your channel.
Wonderful - also a labor of love for all involved. So glad whomever ended up inheriting or responsible for this quilt kept it together and in decent condition for it to end up in the right hands. Even the repair spots I hope someone notices it sometime to know that magical feeling of being mended and still beautiful.
It's beautiful. Your feedsacks are a treasure! Regarding hand sewing or machine sewing, my husband, who is a professional woodworker, says, "Those woodworkers in the past would have used the tools of the present if they had them." So use your technology if you chose!
I just love that you take these treasures and rescue them in a heartfelt and practical manner. I finished an umbrella quilt my grandma started many years ago to hang in my guest room where my mom stayed when visiting - it brought mom joy and happy memories when she saw it! I knew nothing about vintage feed sacks and did the best I could. Some of the fabrics have always bothered me. I am encouraged by your postings and may take that quilt (or parts of) apart and redo it! (Thank goodness for hand quilting! ) I love ALL your posts but am especially grateful for the monthly projects! I love tge motivation it (and all your posts) provide!
Wow! you are so patient! But what great results! Such a good watch. So many of us have partial tops from ancestors and don't know where to begin because they are a hodge podge.
I appreciate your efforts to save vintage quilts and quilt blocks. Thank you for sharing your process with this particular quilt. It turned out beautifully.
Love that you repair or repurpose old quilts. This one turned out beautiful and I’m sure the original maker would be very pleased with the result. Thank you for sharing it❤
That quilt is just beautiful worth all your hard work. It makes it all worthwhile. The quilting fairies are very happy. Excellent job It just shows the original concept of quilting that use what you have waste not want not
Wow!! Thank you for this video. What a process!! You give me courage to carry on. Also thanks for the hole mending demo. I have an old quilt of my mom’s and have tormented my mind on how to mend it. I am going to play with your method and see what happens. Thank you!!
I love that you find and ressurect quilt pieces and parts!! There must be thousands of unfinished projects out there just waiting for someone to find them and lovingly bring them to completion!!!
you are such a dedicated, talented quilter and i'm honored to have subscribed to your channel so i get to benefit from watching your endeavors....AND, your voice is sooo calming. i never would have guessed if you had any anxieties about working on your tasks.. THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge and talents with us. God's Blessings.
Earlier this week, I sent a quilt top to the longarmer for quilting. It was one my grandmother made probably in the 60s but possibly in the 50s or even early 70s. Like you, I had to deal with seams of all different sizes, and a top that was not very square. I spent a lot of time getting the top ready for quilting. I also added a 2.5 outer border, which made a huge difference in the optics. I know when it comes back from the quilter, I'm going to love it and be happy that I invested the time to finish the quilt. You did a beautiful job of making a silk purse out of a sow's ear!
I am amazed what you did with it. You did an awesome job. I love watching your videos. I can’t wait to visit your store on my next visit to Garner, IA.
I love these and have a ot of rescue s ! The major problem is mostly inaccurate block size Ive a few with the same issues as this one ! Block sets almost always need one or 2 additional blocks I also have feedsacks and odd stray blocks to salvage material! I have antique aprons as well for 40's wild prints! Its so much fun to take the time to complete them appropriately 🎉😊
I always get a little sentimental seeing these old quilts get finished.Videos like this are a good reminder for why one should always include a label, even if you don't think it is worth it
This was mesmerizing,,,and I must say that the first maker or makers of the original blocks would be delighted with the outcome, what a treasure!

Wonderful! Good luck. I'm proud of you for saving that project! Happy Quilting!

Excellent job. The original quilt maker(s) would be proud to see their quilt finished. Bravo ❤
Incredible results!!!! You have inspired me to revisit a quilt top that needs some love!
Your efforts for revamping this antique quilt turned out beautiful. All that extra work certainly paid off. Thanks so much for sharing. 👍❤️🙂
Love this old quilt and how you finished it. I’m glad it didn’t just get thrown away by someone who didn’t appreciate it. Great job.
Feed sack fabric is soooo nice to look at...I just love it! Great job bringing that project back to life!

You gave this orphan a beautiful ending. Use with joy!
I think the original maker would be so happy that someone had taken the time to finish what they had started.
A project of love and respect. It turned out beautiful and is a real tribute to the original maker.
love how you reimagined and actually finished that old quilt.

Wow.... it's beautiful....... I don't think I would have enjoyed my date with my seam ripper....great job❤
Oh I just love feedsack designs. What a beautiful quilt! I’m sure the original quilter is beaming with pride at what you’ve done with her handiwork. ❤
I admire your dedication to restoring this quilt. Very pretty when finished.
Wow, what you did was amazing. I was very interested in making those same blocks with today's brighter colors. Thanks for taking the time to rescue that quilt.
This is beautiful! Good job! (ps. wish I had the pattern for the block. It's nifty!)
WONDERFUL RESCUE. This is a beautiful quilt. Thank-you for sharing the process.
🎶💐💖🫂
You are so welcome!
What a labor of love! It turned out beautiful! I admire your knowledge and patience undertaking this project! Lovely!
You did a fantastic job of remaking this beautiful old quilt. Thank you for the video 😊

Bless your heart for saving the antique quilt. I've been picking up old blocks. I hope to finish them some day.
Beautiful. Love it. I went to school in feed sack dresses. I wish they were still used and available
Great tutorial!
I’m going with 1940s. Some of the fabrics have a 40’s look to me!
You did such a wonderful job restoring this quilt. Thanks for breathing new life
into this ole gal. Happy stitching!
What a talent you have in rescuing abandoned quit pieces. Love your monthly challenges 😊
Very nice quilt! I have several rescued blocks and quilt tops some handmade some machine some both. I just had to rescue them! Thanks for the video and motivation to finish them

You should be very happy with the finish! Beautiful quilt! Thank you for sharing!

Great way to rescue a quilt top! I like your decisions.

What a beautiful quilt you resurrected from a resale shop. 😊
One of my most prized treasures is an unfinished quilt top pieced by my great-grandmother. She would have been astounded to know that its value is now greater than her annual income was in the early part of the 20th Century.
I love old quilts

Love this! I found a vintage quilt top last week while visiting my in-laws in Colorado…planning to hand quilt with Baptist fans…can’t wait!
Wow! That’s labor intensive, but how rewarding. Beautiful finished product. Thanks for sharing
Wow, that’s talent! Beautiful job 😊
Thanks for sharing this. A great way to use scraps.
Thank you so much for taking the love and care in finishing this beautiful quilt. Wow hand and machine sewn. Stunning. Well done.

What a beautiful finished project. The original sewist would be thrilled. Well done you!
Wonderful process. Thank you on behalf of all those who came before us...I suspect they would indeed be very happy with the resulting beauty!
A very tribute to antique fabrics (classic fabrics?) ... a labor of love and well worth the effort, in my opinion.

Hi Shelley. What a great idea for covering that hole. I’ll borrow that idea thank you. The quilt turned out beautiful xx
I want to know more about the feed sacks. The original owner would be proud of the beauty you turned this quilt top onto. I Love it
I have never seen this block before and love it. So I worked out the pattern and am on my way to making a quilt like yours. Thankyou.
Thank you for saving those quilt blocks and other parts. It was well worth your efforts. They had beautiful prints back then.
The border fabric is perfect
Lovely. Well done and I love the muted colours.
Love that you saved the past by creating a treasure!
I have lightly tea stained muslin to get it to match older muslin..I love repairing old quilts
You do great work. I'm so inspired😊
Enjoying the replay ❤

Oh boy, if fabric could talk!! I am sure there are stories that go with each piece of fabric. So glad you wound up with it.
What an amazing story! What patience, time and creativity.
Wow! Stunning!

Beautiful. Thank you saving an old quilt that would have been thrown away by those no realizing the value of this quilt.❤
Yes glad you did this for an old quilt. Thank you
I’m OLD so I do like the look of OLD quilts much more than the newer, modern quilts. Guess it comes from growing up with my Grandmama’s quilts 😊.
I specialize in making new quilts that look like old quilts but with all of their life still ahead of them.
@@Vintage_Recreations and you did a beautiful job! That’s why I loved the look of that quilt so much!❤️

Great save, looks great
That was a lot of work. I commend you for saving our ancestors Quilt.❤
I would love to finds unfinished antique quilt!! Some year maybe I can rescue one also!! Great job! I like the old fabric also!!
Thank you for making this video. At the beginning of this year i was hop2younwould share the rest of the story of each quilt as it finished.
Love how you rescued this quilt. Now I need the pattern😊
Another fine rescue! It's beautiful!
I am amazed what you did with it. You did an awesome job. I love watching your videos. I can’t wait to visit your store on my next visit to Garner, IA.
So beautiful! Wouldn’t you just love to meet the original maker to chat about what their plan was?! Brilliant! Deb x 🤗
Beautiful! What a great way to finish quilts
You have the patience of Job! You did a fabulous job, I probably would have used the red for the border but regardless the end result is great.
I love this quilt! Awesome job finishing it! 😍
I love how fixed that block with muslin! I need to that to some pieces that to some torn ones. I didn’t know how to fix it until I watched this!
What a beautiful job you did! I do think the original maker would highly approve.
Bravo! Well done…it’s finished very well!
Beautiful job! Congrats on finishing a UFO!!
I love Your jobs. ❤
You have beautifully saved this quilt. Love the block pattern. I think you could have made the blocks without Y seams.
