    In the 70's my dad was working with mental challenged people and he would teach them to make jewels like this (not so advance as yours) 20years later, my brother became a social worker and did the same thing for a couple of years. I still got some of what they made and have been wondering why no one ever does that any more. Before there would always be someone selling jewellery make like this on the streets in the summer.

    Chunky Funky Rings I've commented before about the first TH-cam I watched of yours. I'm so impressed and find it so easy to understand and follow your directions regarding rings in this one. I tumble my own agates, petrified wood that I have to hammer into chunks to tumble, so my question to you how do i handle wire wrapping smaller/ rounder sized stones with no holes. Also, on the blue stone that had the holes on the side why didnt you use the infinity to help tie the stone to the ring? I'm trying to learn as much as I can before my hubby goes on SS next year cause he has no retirement and I've been on a low disability for about 35 years and I just turned 62. So my hope and plan is I'm stockimg up on supplies to make beautiful one of a kind jewelry no one else does like I will to bring income in. Then the next step is how to get started? K

    • @MattsCrazyArt
      @MattsCrazyArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kim, focus on stocking up on finished pieces more than supplies. The more you make, the more you will learn what supplies you really work best with and what supplies looked good at first but ended up being less useful.

    • @MattsCrazyArt
      @MattsCrazyArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Small, round stones are harder if they don't have a hold drilled through them.
      I can do a tutorial but that is not what I'm best at, at the moment.
      If you go to the trouble to tumble your own stones, I would look into drillimg holes in them. It will require specific kinds of drills so look up videos on it. But I bet you will find you can make many more jewelry pieces faster with holes drilled.

    • @kimmikulak6524
      @kimmikulak6524 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattsCrazyArt 2, hi Matt, I do have a semi light hand held dremel with all kinds of drill bits, sanding etc. Seems my so. Got into it made s disastrous mess of it all but I'm wondering what if I made bird like wire cages for the more rounder stones I couldn't drill. What do you think? That way I could still use them as focals, including any I could get from some rockhounders maybe. Because I'm disabled and cant walk any length and uneven ground. So they would be my option to getting some different stones then what I have now. Anyway look forward to your thought on my idea. K

    • @MJkatzTheWriter
      @MJkatzTheWriter 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kimmikulak6524 Hi...I'm retired and can't do a lot of walking on uneven surfaces since I wear a brace on my right knee and use a cane. But one thing you might be able to do is save up some of the money from your sales...or even now before your husband gets on SS next year....and spend it at a gem mining mine. I'm not talking about those mines where you go underground and have to swing hammers in order to hopefully find something. Lol! I'm talking about those "open to the public" gem mines where you buy a bucket or tub of dirt...sit on a long bench...place several scoops of your dirt into a wooden frame with a screened bottom... and then sift the contents in a running water trough, repeating this process until your bucket or tub is empty. It's amazing what you can find!
      IMHO this is not just fun but also a place where you can learn about the various rocks you've found. Just off the top of my head my husband and I have found rubies, garnets, sapphires, clear/smoky/pink quartz, amethyst, fluorite, geodes with Snowball clusters, fossils, emeralds, every shade of Jasper that the good Lord made, pyrite, and even petrified wood.
      Of course, I don't know where you live but IF you live in North Carolina, there's several good mines to go to. The one my husband and I like best is the Elijah Mountain Gem Mine in Hendersonville, NC. After going there, we definitely make our money back at least 'twice over' with the 'finds' even before making any jewelry!
      You can also check out the raw gems/stones being sold on Etsy, Amazon, and Shopify. Plus, if you 'google' "Wholesale Raw Gems To Buy" (or semi-precious), there are sites that will come up which might be just what you'd be looking for. Being disabled isn't any fun so finding good websites that have 'rocks' for a good price as well as wires, clasps, chains, leather/suade strips, cord, and even thin ribbon is important since you're going to depend quite a bit on Delivery.
      BTW, I love the idea about making cages for the round stones to sit in. :)
      Hope some of the info here helps. Good Luck!

    Thankyou Matt!!! I've done all sorts of "omg how on earth does this work" moves on trying to get a simple ring done... Suffice to say - way too much swearing, no success. Lol

    I'm glad I found your videos. They are fun as well as informative.
    Watching you work with the darker stone with no hole I wondered ... What about using E6000 to attach the stone to the base, then doing the embellishment with smaller gauge wire? FWIW, I will probably try that long before you have the chance see this comment and reply.

    If you could do another ring chunky funky video and just slow down a bit that really would be very helpful. I can’t keep it with you brah😂😂😂. Much Love

      You can click the little gear icon in the corner usually and find "speed" and set it to 0.75 speed - of course I will sound drunk 😆

    That one tip about using the "stabbing hold" for ergonomics and strength was worth the price of admission.
    Thanks from FL.
