Much easier to pop into local stores n buy whats available like in target...walmart... anything else got pay a premium for older sets/series... THIS IS A GOOD VIDEO
Surely buying a couple of precons is the best place to start as you'd have to buy quite a lot of boosters to have enough to construct a deck :/ I guess depends if you want to just collect or play. This seems a bit misleading to me
My personal tip: have fun. I started collecting around the start of b&w. I was 10 at the time. I didn't care about what cards were worth what, I just wanted the cards I found the coolest/cutest. I did sleeve them because my dad wanted me to, but I really didn't care about the money. I took them to school to trade with my friends, looking to trade for even cooler cards and it was a blast. Sure, I've made some very stupid trades looking back, but that's fine by me. Currently, I have a collection that's worth an estimated 1200 dollars. So when did I start taking it seriously? Never. As I got older, I started looking for cards I liked on the internet. I picked whichever cards I wanted and that were in my price range at the time. Almost all of them grew in value, which is where the money comes from. Sadly the time of buying cards online and making a profit that easily is over, since due to the boom of "investors" all the older sets are already reaching their cap and the new sets are insanely overpriced. That's why it's even more important now than ever to do it for fun. They're cool little things, and each one of them contains a value beyond the price tag. Collect the cards you like, not the ones you think will make you money. It will keep the process fun, and I promise that after a few years of collecting you will, like me, end up with an obsene amount of money in cards made for a children's video game as promotion Seriously tf do I do with these things now
This here. Im looking to get into collecting again, looking to get a nice binder for all my cards, and Im learning all this stuff about how you HAVE TO have your cards in sleeves and top loaders, etc.. It just really kinda bogged me down. Im really not interested in putting my cards in sleeves and top loaders, even the rarer ones, so for the sake of fun (which i mean, why else does anyone do anything?), Im just going to keep them in a binder and I’ll be satisfied with that 🙂 👍. Sorry for the spam, i just wanted to get my feelings out about it, lol. Have a good day!

I started collecting Pomemon again a few months ago after the McDonald's set was released. I collected the first sets as a kid and was feeling so nostalgic. I was all over the place until I watched your "Can we talk about Pikachu Promos" video. Now my primary focus is all Charmander cards. Thanks for the great content and helping me get pick a path to collection! Let me know if you know of any cool Charmander Promos I should look out for! 🔥

Loved that feeling of getting bought a new pack, opening to see if I got anything good. Duplicates were always swapped. Had a huge collection, massive book binder full but they were stolen from my house 😭😭 I was devastated then, but even more so now so many years later, some worth a fortune.
brooo youre unlocking so many memories easier times fr fr i wish i hadnt sold my cards when they werent worth as much. wouldve been nice to keep them lmao. not even to resell them at a higher price but just for the nostalgia of having them
I cant imagine ever recommending Penny sleeves over also literally any other sleeves. I might be spoiled with my dragon shields but penny sleeves imo are terrible. Could also recommend a binder for storage as imo top loaders are not necessary unless ypur shipping a card out
binders are way more prone to having your cards have some sort of bend to them as the pages in binders aren't exactly sturdy. top loaders are perfect for both shipping and keeping them stored in an elite trainer box, or any box for that matter.
I had opened packs all in middle school and used the cards for making decks and battling. I have always had a big collection but never really got into making money from them. I sold most of my good cards to a friend for $30 when I was building a gaming pc but now this seems like something I want to do in my free time
I used to collect football cards but after playing Pokémon go and arceus i decided to dabble. I started by just buying a random pack after work for 5 bucks. Then after I bought about 3 of those I just bought a Vpack and pulled a Leafeon V! So hyped I love all the evee evolutions. Can’t wait to get more.
I haven't collected since I was around 15. I'm now 34! I've just made pre orders for Evilving Skies and Celebrations. I'm hoping I've made the right decision!
To any new collectors with regards to sleeves: If you're ever looking to upgrade your sleeves, Ultra-Pro puts out fantastic lines of sleeves for that purpose. Their Eclipse line is some of their best. Another good recommendation, and my personal choice, is to use Dragon Shield sleeves. There are matte finishes to some of the Eclipse sleeves, and while they're still fantastic, they will mute the foil patterns of cards. Dragon Shields don't do that. Dragon Shield also makes a really nice sealable inner sleeve that works even better to protect your cards from water damage. Just a bit of a disclaimer here: What I mentioned comes from years of experience playing Magic: the Gathering. I also collect Pokemon cards, and have applied the same methods of protecting the cards in my playable decks the same way as to my small Pokemon card collection. The sleeves I mentioned cost about $10 per 100 pack, but I believe the cost for either brand is worth it for the protection they provide.
Great guide Jake! I've recently got back into the hobby and trying to document it on TH-cam in my own way. Your videos have been a huge resource for me as I get back into the game - big love!! Nice pull at the end there too! 🙌

Started really collecting with the chilling reign set and have been going after the shiny gold snorlax. One booster box down and no luck but just got two more boxes 🤙
I have tons of cards from when i was younger i'm 11 now and don't remember collecting too much and i have an entire giant box of them . I don't know whats good and how to tell if its good can someone please tell me.
Thank you, I started about 2 weeks ago & I felt like I needed to buy everything, made a few mistakes. I have stuck with Battle Styles & move on once I have completed the set. Also, you have yourself a new Sub as the video content was excellent.
Also wanted to say that with modern products I keep those sealed. Because every river comes back around and in many years to come hidden fates could be the shadowless of the future.
Glad I watched this I pulled a rare one and just sleeved in one of those ETB sleeves thinking they were decent. Going to purchase some proper sleeves and toploaders now. Thank you.
ETB sleeves are also fine to use. So you don’t need to get ultra pro or kmc sleeves. But if the card you pulled is worth a lot of money, get some toploaders asap
ive just started my collection of pokémon cards properly and i bought a $15 evolutions booster pack and i pulled a reverse holo charizard and a holo raichu in the same pack which is pretty sweet to me.
I started my collection with my uncle giving me an entire base set with holos and everything. Not sure if it’s completely complete but it sure is most of it
Solid advice. I agree on the sleeves too, they’re good but tend to be a little bulky for the binder or any kind of archiving. Penny sleeves all the way!

Would be nice if you decided to talk about what boosters or sets to go for as a collector, where to find what, different kinds of cards to collect and which are worth collecting, how big of an undertaking is it to collect everything or certain things. What to collect to simultaneously build a competitive deck. Stuff like that. I was kind of disappointed that the video just turned into a pack opening video.

It will keep the process fun, and I promise that after a few years of collecting you will, like me, end up with an obsene amount of money in cards made for a children's video game as promotion
Seriously tf do I do with these things now
Eat them, you are very hungry.
Have a good day!
bruh did you really just describe $1200 as an "obscene amount of money" 😂
@@JG-pr8sy bro for a bunch of paper cards it is.

Guessing he just left it in the box and nothing else it could be a 7 or 8 if he's lucky
I'm collecting too again since 3 months, I've always had the base/jungle/fossil set almost complete 20 years ago and I have a bunch of others from gym, rocket and neo collections. Now I'm trying to complete them all :) the hardest for me right now is shining Charizard lol, also need shining Noctowl and Steelix.
Your a legend man 👍
I’m just confused with all the different versions of packs and stuff
Same! There are so many… I started with Hidden Fates and then Shining Fates and then Sword and Shield Battle Styles and then my brother bought me a Chilling Reign pack… Now I want Vivid Voltage… WHERE DOES IT END!? 😭😂
@@loose167 is hidden dates more like the og Pokémon?
I was buying any newer ones I saw, then when evolving skies came out I started collecting those exclusively
Charmander! Nice. Have you seen the Diamond & Pearl Stormfront secret rare? It's a sort of a "reprint" of the one from Base set (The artist did a new version of his original work). It's gorgeous!
Wow I did not know about that one! Very cool! I love the new take on the old art! Thanks! :)
@@PurpleCharmander004 Same here mate! Focusing on Charmander too, my childhood favourite!
Noice! I literally started my Gengar collection this week. By far my fav pokemon :)
@@PixelLifeGaming Lol same dude. When I got back into collecting I started focusing on Gengar. I even recently made an IG for it... gengargibby
My first booster box was Eeve Heroes which I opened 2 days ago very first pack was Umbreon V SR great way to start my collection =)
that's some good luck!
I just started collecting about a month ago. Get ready for the stress of sorting cards if your into that kinda thing lol
Umbreon is fire! Trade me,
My first set was the 25th anniversary and got MEW right off the first pack. I never collected before like EVER
My chdhood home burned down a few years ago, along with it my entire collection from when I was a kid. I had so many rares and holos and I am still so sad..
Sure finding valuable cards would be nice but I just wanna start collecting again, even if it has to be from scratch :( damn recent boost in pokémon card popularity
i used to collect before it got popular and i’m really considering getting back into it.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! It’s been a good 20+ years since I collected Pokémon cards. Really wish I knew where my original binder full of them was😭🤣
been back in the hobby about 3 months now. finally got my hands on a base set charizard. Not mint but im pumped!
Show me the way. I have a Japanese one my friend gave me but I want. 1st edition English holo

I found the ETB sleeves to be nice and sturdy. They're thick and haven't had any break. But that might just be my own opinion!
They are absurdly hard to see through, idk why they made them cloudy
Absolutely I agree 100%!! very good quality sleeves and look great in collections or in the actual game.
@@Hossyboy420 They didn't use to be that cloudy matte material actually, I have a lot of mewtwo elite trainer boxes i got and they were all clear glossy sleeves. It kind of sucks they changed it and I'm not sure why either
@@Hikarixhikarixhikari I’ve heard they started making them cloudy so that during tournaments full art cards can be more visible during play and on camera and makes the shininess be toned down but tbh I don’t even remember where I heard that soooo 🤷🏻♂️
@@Hossyboy420 i think that’s only the battle styles ones
I enjoy your videos the most out of any of the tcg TH-camrs thank you
I appreciate that!
when and if AMC reaches the moon, i'll be chasing all the vintage shining cards in psa 10s. maybe even the gold stars XD a man can dream!
I predict another straight banger Jake !❤️
Thanks man I've been away 25 years just picked my daughter up a graded 10 ancient mew I'm just getting back to it didn't know where to start now all the packs etc have changed alot
Thinking of getting one too. What would you say is a good price to pay?
😩 makes me feel all fuzzy inside watching you open packs. I was collecting the 1st gen cards when I was younger. Used to trade with friends on the streets in my area. Loved that feeling of getting bought a new pack, opening to see if I got anything good. Duplicates were always swapped. Had a huge collection, massive book binder full but they were stolen from my house 😭😭 I was devastated then, but even more so now so many years later, some worth a fortune.
brooo youre unlocking so many memories
easier times fr fr i wish i hadnt sold my cards when they werent worth as much. wouldve been nice to keep them lmao. not even to resell them at a higher price but just for the nostalgia of having them
I just love your voice its so calming
Love your "wall of pikachus" :D
What are those Pikachu boxes in the back the break boxes?!?!?!!
i love how clicks spike around the time where he mispronounces krokorok as krocock at 10:00
I cant imagine ever recommending Penny sleeves over also literally any other sleeves. I might be spoiled with my dragon shields but penny sleeves imo are terrible. Could also recommend a binder for storage as imo top loaders are not necessary unless ypur shipping a card out
yep i use perfect fits and dragon shields. ultra pro products feel cheap
binders are way more prone to having your cards have some sort of bend to them as the pages in binders aren't exactly sturdy. top loaders are perfect for both shipping and keeping them stored in an elite trainer box, or any box for that matter.
yeah binders are def the way to go
@@halo5923 so just put the card in the binder? Or penny sleeve then put it in the binder?
@@interlocs double sleeve and then put it in the binder
Nice packs. Where did you get the other packs you brought in the video
I had opened packs all in middle school and used the cards for making decks and battling. I have always had a big collection but never really got into making money from them. I sold most of my good cards to a friend for $30 when I was building a gaming pc but now this seems like something I want to do in my free time
I'm a new collector and like 5 of my friends started as well, I'm addicted to the pulls..
I just started today, I got some cards from my classmates who sold me 2 Vmax cards, 3 basics, and one stage 1.

Can't wait for the V Union Cards
Thanks for your insights, just started collecting. Your vid made me realize I don't have to pressure myself to get the rarest cards possible. I know it's exciting to have a big collection, but you should start somewhere. Thanks for pointing me in that right direction! Hope you get good pulls on your next packs :)
I'm thinking about starting my collection and your videos are helping with so many questions! Thank you!
thanks for the tutorial! i used to collect them, but never took it as a hobby. i dug through my closet recently and found all my pokemon cards.
First tip should be- Know about Pokemon
I mean in my school I have seen some kids buy Pokemon cards when they only know Pikachu
study the pokemon on flashcards while running on a treadmill like that boy did on that one episode
Also wanted to say that with modern products I keep those sealed. Because every river comes back around and in many years to come hidden fates could be the shadowless of the future.
Do you have a video on how to collect a set? I want to collect the complete set of Astral Radiance.
I have a rare card I pulled from a etb and I sleeved it using etb sleeves. It’s been a month but the card is completely fine
Step one: Waifu's, Step two: Protection
I love when u said "use penny sleeves"
Jake I wish I knew how to start. It’s just so expensive and I’m wondering if I should just give up ☹️ I need a mentor
ive just started my collection of pokémon cards properly and i bought a $15 evolutions booster pack and i pulled a reverse holo charizard and a holo raichu in the same pack which is pretty sweet to me.
Jake at 3:31 : “You can go to any retail store or your local game store and find a plethora of Pokémon card products”
Me: Goes to both Walmarts, target and GameStop: all ghost towns except for possibly 1 single booster hidden in target.
Where are them Pokémans at??
Hopefully with the upcoming reprints there will actually be some cards to buy ‘in the wild’.
I put regular V, GX, EX cards in the etb sleeves or in a binder. when it comes to TagTeams, Full Art , Alt Art, Secret rare, Hyper rare/rainbow, gold cards then I use Penny and Topload
but thats just me
Kmc perfect fit sleeves are the best in my opinion.
How do you know if something is rare enough to keep as soon as you open the pack?
I have started Collecting sealed products in 2021!!! Could you make a video on Sealed product collecting ! Vintage vs new etc
Love your content man - and kudos for encouraging newcomers to this awesome hobby!
I love Pokémon cards, I’m a staring collector and I don’t really get them to get anything good or for battling, I collect them because if there’s a specific card I get to at I really like, there’s a story to tell for it. I like the shiny cards aswell!
I’m still trying to find my way in the hobby, I notice I get lost exited of the Pokémon’s I know from earlier gens. I do keep everything cause I know my favourites can change. I’m also trying to catch up with the games and anime to get to know the later gens.
Thanks Jake for always looking out for us!
what a great video as i’ve just started collecting!!thanks man subscribed!!!!
I just recently started with a shining fates etb. I'm hooked, just bought 5 packs of eevee heros in Japanese. Pulled a vaporeon v. That is a beautiful set.
I think playmat is as important as penny sleeves and top loaders, you don't want to place your cards on a table that can be dusty/dirty
Keep em clean!
thank you for making this video this relly helps me to start
My first pack ever got me a galar slowking V and that helped me with starting to collect.
thanks for this video bro i'm gonna get into tcg collecting
The Pokémon booster boxes (10 Packs and 8 packs) they’re great for beginners because they come with at least one or two v and VMAX cards and some other rates and they come with all the instructions so you can understand Pokémon more
I want to start me a collection of Pokémon cards and I’m going to make shorts of it to :)
XY evolution is definitely the packs I want to open. Wouldn't of known that if it wasn't for this video. I collected Pokémon 15 years ago at school had a great collection but lost them I remember all the old Pokémon not the new ones
Where do you get your packs? Where would you recommend a starter to go to buy packs?
banger jake!
What camera are you using for your video? The quality is sooooo good.
Thank you so much for this chill intro to collecting advice video!!! Really enjoyed it!!! So wholesome about just having fun opening packs and collecting sets!!! Some useful information about how the cards are arranged in different sets too!!! I didn't know about the XY packs not having energy cards and that being the reason for only rearranging 3 cards versus 4 cards. Really enjoy all of your content as a whole as well!!!
Was also wondering, what kind of advice would you give someone who not only recently got back into collecting, but wants to have fun uploading videos to TH-cam of opening packs?? I kinda just want to have fun sharing my progress on my account. Not sure how to fully go about it and what kind of equipment might be good to have to do so? Not sure what your setup might be. Thank you!!!
Bought my first pack in 4 years and got a rainbow full art umbreon v and now im hooked
I just started my collection and got he ultra rare Tyranitar v from the sword ad shield pack! :D

Thanks for this video I grew up watching and collecting Pokémon with my brother but I would always get nothing good but now that I’m grown I forgot everything
I remember having a decent sized collection in the late 90s. Friends and I would battle. Good fucking times
How do you know what to sleeve and what not to sleeve? If they are holographic then sleeve it?
The way I do it just sleeve what ever has the shiny foil or if it looks unique or cool.
I’m just new with Pokémon trading cards how would you know which one is a valuable card?
If you just started: I've bought expensive sets and cheap $1 packs from Dollar tree. I just pulled the Charizard Holo from XY Evolutions, from a $5 tin! Who knew? Pack opening is fun
Nice dude i pulled holo zard and Ive only ever opened 3 packs of evolutions as an xmas gift one year
@@TheAbandonedAccount7 similar story, I think I've only opened up about 4 or so Evolutions packs. Bring on the 25th anniversary set, Evolving Skies looking good too
