    Make an episode about the sluggish start issues most of us have.

    Sorry you had to go through all this but also very glad you posted it for the rest of us. My SS Convertible is only driven on weekends with the top down in good weather so I may have to deal with this also but you have done the troubleshooting for me THANKS.
    I was told many years ago the battery drain on concrete floor rumor started back in the days of rubber cases when it would drain the battery. With the plastic cases we now have it is no longer an issue.

    Hey my car is doing the same and I bought a battery but it is not the jell kind. But I had some work done on the car before it started draining the battery.

    Helpful video. My 2018 SS currently having this issue. Cranks like it wants to start but nothing. Only 3 weeks with the car. Taking it in for service tomorrow. Hope it’s just a bad battery /charge and not a electrical gremlin. Also, my rev match feature and exhaust mode stopped working once I jumped started my car. Something to monitor...

    Fun fact, let your Camaro sit in the garage foe 3 to 5 days and try to start it. I have a battery tender if I park for more than 3 days. The more you know,,,

    Currently going through the same issue, I think my dash cam in a sense was your black view. Purchased new battery and same issue. Checked for all types of drains but nothing. Going to give the battery a full charge and hope for the best.

    The story about how to store your battery is fine to put it on the floor or wherever you want to put it at. The old batteries from years ago would discharge on the concrete floor for some reason that I’m not 100% sure why. But that’s was the older batteries from years ago and I mean fifty years ago or more from what I have learned as being a Master Certified Automotive Technician for over 35 years. So you can store your battery anywhere you want to. Just keep it away from heat and things you don’t want to have damage because it does put off a little bit of fumes into the air and you don’t want it to blow up. That would really be hard to happen but it’s possible. As if you are wanting to put a charge in it and you have the charger plugged in and on and then you hook up the connection to the battery and you can get a spark from doing this and that could cause it to explode. Just hook it up first then plug in the charger. Same thing applies hooking it up in the car. You don’t want to have a live power before you hook it up to the charger. Always plug the charger into a live power last. I think everyone has had gremlins with theses new cars and batteries because of the way they charge now. I don’t like the way GM has done this. But I didn’t build them. I just work on them. Good video and that’s. By the way. The thing that you had that didn’t work was probably the draw on your battery and that’s why the new one drained after a few days of drawing it down to the low battery charge.

    There’s a reason they’re supposed to ship w the “Camaro” CTEK Charger. Also, our cars have a “Transport Mode” for this reason.

  • @douglashughbanks1828
    @douglashughbanks1828 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason why you don't store a battery on the ground mainly is transfer of temperature they like to be insulated. I wish these newer cars displayed amps and not just voltage it would help in seeing what your charging system is doing.

  • @chriscaballero993

    my 5th gen 2ss 1le was misfiring when i would accelerate heavily and when I would go above 3500rpm. I saw my O2 sensors and they were reading normal. Isn't spark plugs because it doesnt misfire on deaccel. So after I had a heart attack thinking my boost a pump took a shit on me I checked my battery because a crap ground or connection and I'll save a lot of money. Well as it turned out my ground terminal has a lot of corrosion on it and wasn't getting a proper connection thus it messing with my fuel system. So if anyone has a 5th gen misfiring and all else is good maybe check the ground before going straight to thinking of replacing O2 sensors or fuel pump.

    Let me bust that bubble. I had a mustang that would drain the battery. I turned out to be the drivers side door and the radio. That was fixed. No more issues.
    I've had my camaro almost two years with zero trouble. Yesterday, it would not crank. I put in a new battery, and all seems well. Today, the radio display was blank. I pulled the fuse and put it back in. All is fine again. My driving habits have not changed since before all of this started.
    The only thing in my case was the fact that the car was not driven the previous 4 weeks due to my being in the hospital. If this shit continues, no matter what i do, it's going to the trash. I went through hell with my mustang trying to figure it out. I will NOT put myself through that again.

    • @Lethalgarage
      @Lethalgarage  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      4 weeks battery would be dead no tender. The Onstar will drain it in 2-3 weeks.

    • @Biggerbyte
      @Biggerbyte 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Lethalgarage That makes sense. I drive this vehicle once to twice per week. I'll buy a tender if in the future it needs to go more than a few days.

    • @Biggerbyte
      @Biggerbyte 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The one other thing that concerns me about my car is that after the battery was changed and car driven, I went back out later to my car to crank it again and the radio display was blank. I had to pull a fuse to fix it.

    • @Biggerbyte
      @Biggerbyte 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have this scary, stinky feeling this is going to happen again, and again, and again. It's random. My mustang would sometimes drain the battery in 3 days, while other times it could be as long as three months.
      Damn you, Chevy..You were supposed to be superior to Ford.
      Same bullshit.

    I have a similar issue. While idle, AC on full blast, the AC fan speed drops from full to low. While that happens the battery drops way down. After about 30 seconds the fan speed kicks back up with the battery

    Encased in steel, an Edison cell battery placed directly on a concrete floor would discharge more quickly than normal. ... Between the carbon and the pores, together with moisture and a concrete floor, this could potentially lead to a path for the electricity to flow, resulting in the battery draining.

    @lethalgarage I am having the same damn issue, but my car is driven daily, battery has died on me multiple times, at the grocery store, work etc. , when it dies, battery reads low, but after I jump it, battery seems fine. Pulses above 14 and just below it. Is it possible I have a faulty alternator? ( maybe? 800 miles on the odometer driving off the lot, car died on the freeway) GM Gave me a new alternator. Kind of disappointed in GM, but very similar situation, nice upload Matt!!!
