Dancing Dolls and the Prancing J-Settes are THE standards when it comes to their respective styles despite them being vastly different. I will die on that hill. Herb and Alayah were going tic for tac, but I can't wait to see them again if we're getting a Boombox Classic BOTB this year later in the season when these times get several more games under their belt. The Dolls showed out during Zero Q. no question, the overall song selections just were more interesting. I agree with Morgan with wanting to see more bucking from the J-Settes. For halftime, both did amazing, but I may be a little biased because I loved the cape intro and ending from the Settes. Fifth Q, I'm not going to say it was a clean sweep for the J-Settes like last year because Herb was bringing the heat, but the J-Settes were overall were better prepared and a lot more cohesive with fewer mistakes than the Dolls. From the footage, the Dolls didn't 100% have Herb's back like they did in Zero Q. Sorry for the long comment. 😭

The Dolls gave consistency this game. They gave you something to look out this entire game, but the Settes are UNMATCHED. They have a style that catches the eye no matter how intense or mild they are. I personally love what the Settes brought.

Huh JSU first two songs were hits. And the 2nd song was a metro boom battle between them and SU. Now this way could have stayed in the band room but I think one directors arranged it while in college.
I love the J-settes❤❤, I’m rooting for them in these battles always, but we have to start being honest. Both teams had mess ups and even with that the dolls won this battle against the settes. the musicality and delivery from the dolls was better. They had feeling, energy and intensity in their counts the entire game.
1) This was a great season-opener battle between 2 of the big 5 squads. 2) Overall both squads need to learn their music. - Settes, a majority of the times the counts don’t make sense to the song. - Dolls, were wasting too much music, but eventually got it together. Nevertheless, I would rather them waste a little music than just throwing counts that don’t fit a good percentage of the time. - Settes field clearly had to be an audition piece. Though nothing is wrong with an audition piece, it’s just this wasn’t the game to not give like the first 2 routines of the season. - Dolls field let’s just change that ending and revisit that kick-line. Even without those changes it’s still a 10. Overall, the Dolls took this.

I kind of see why dolls strayed away from hard hitting doll, because sometimes they be so hard hitting they forget where they are with the counts and complete chaos and mess ups start to happen. Herb do need to tone it down and get more controlled cause she be so out the box with it like calm down just a tad bit. Also dolls need to work on execution a little bit more. As for settes I only liked the when they threw the new counts and maybe when they did that opener. I honestly think that we're stuck on Laneia's season Laneia was a battle sette with good music behind her and coming from that to this says a lot. I don't wanna be that person, but uhh Lay is giving me Micah only good for the background Shelbie should be up front.
Whew!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Now this is what I call dancing! First of all these are the “mother” teams of HBCU dance! There is not a dance line that hasn’t “stolen” from either ONE or BOTH of these teams and incorporated into their style. Both teams had a few hiccups but they were CLEAN & on point. While I’m an avid doll fan the only other girls I’d bow down to is the settes. Here is my assessment. Herb… please please please start sooner and please have your complete team (not a few) to back up your energy. Crabs please go into the doll room and do a little more practice. Yall have to get up to speed and quickly. Settes, your zero quarter count selection didn’t do it for me. I also didn’t really care for the field show. However, yall did some really unique things in the 5th that made me proud. Zero Quarter: DOLLS Fields: DOLLS Fifth: Settes (but the dolls were on their asses) the settes literally beat the dolls by 0.5 points in the 5th lol. Both teams look so good and are so clean. Final conclusion: the dolls and the settes are the most watched and most scrutinized teams due to what I said earlier. Everyone is watching them from the fans to their copycats. Love both teams but it’s always the dolls for me. ❤️
Heavy on this. These two schools in general: Jukebox/Dolls, SBOTS/Settes. While the rivalry may run deep, you cannot deny that they are the greatest in the SWAC. I’m a J-Sette fan myself, but I heavily respect the Dolls and are the only other team where I am invested in the legacy. As you mentioned, at one point, dance lines everywhere have taken SOMETHING, be it a count, a formation in the field, style, you name it, from the Dolls and Settes. In my opinion, majorette dance is comprised of two styles: the Dolls and the J-Settes. Everyone else just falls in the middle, like a spectrum with the former two representing opposite poles.

J-settes held onto the capes a little too long for me. Looked like flag girls for a moment and it wasn’t clean. I liked them better in the stands but I do feel the Dancing Dolls edged them there as well. I liked the J-settes ending of Ginuwine too and just realizing they did that. I agree, it was very creative and cute imo. Dolls just had a grown woman vibe on them that night that did it for me.
That’s exactly what it was giving Danni all the way. The fierceness , the bounce and attitude . I love that energy she’s giving while still being classy doll like. Very nostalgic in my opinion they have been missing in the pass recent years. Not saying it was bad thing just nice to see again.

I love Herb and like Morgan said when she’s on AWON she’s on but when she’s not she’s SO OFF and sometimes she’s only on for part of a song and then it’s like a switch that flips. I want her to of course not waste her music but also be more mindful of her counts cause sometimes it looks like she throws whatever is in reach. Dolls looked amazing and should put to her energy and execution and her team backing her up for sure!!
Very even battle to me! My only complaints are that Herb needs to work on hard vs soft and I need the Settes to throw those hips and backs out on some of these counts
Y’all be 4Real!.. Herb’s hard-hitting-305 execution is perfect for one of the ‘ettes’ squads, but IT IS NOT DOLLS.. She MUST add a lil ounce of Milk (Almond, Soy, Oat- whichever her choosing) to make a perfect balance of Finesse (i.e. Jada D., Jordan E., etc.)-that’s the evolution of Dolls in which they’re unique!

I kind of see why dolls strayed away from hard hitting doll, because sometimes they be so hard hitting they forget where they are with the counts and complete chaos and mess ups start to happen. Herb do need to tone it down and get more controlled cause she be so out the box with it like calm down just a tad bit. Also dolls need to work on execution a little bit more. As for settes I only liked the when they threw the new counts and maybe when they did that opener. I honestly think that we're stuck on Laneia's season Laneia was a battle sette with good music behind her and coming from that to this says a lot. I don't wanna be that person, but uhh Lay is giving me Micah only good for the background Shelbie should be up front.

Now this is what I call dancing! First of all these are the “mother” teams of HBCU dance! There is not a dance line that hasn’t “stolen” from either ONE or BOTH of these teams and incorporated into their style.
Both teams had a few hiccups but they were CLEAN & on point. While I’m an avid doll fan the only other girls I’d bow down to is the settes. Here is my assessment.
Herb… please please please start sooner and please have your complete team (not a few) to back up your energy. Crabs please go into the doll room and do a little more practice. Yall have to get up to speed and quickly.
Settes, your zero quarter count selection didn’t do it for me. I also didn’t really care for the field show. However, yall did some really unique things in the 5th that made me proud.
Zero Quarter: DOLLS
Fields: DOLLS
Fifth: Settes (but the dolls were on their asses) the settes literally beat the dolls by 0.5 points in the 5th lol. Both teams look so good and are so clean.
Final conclusion: the dolls and the settes are the most watched and most scrutinized teams due to what I said earlier. Everyone is watching them from the fans to their copycats. Love both teams but it’s always the dolls for me. ❤️
Heavy on this. These two schools in general: Jukebox/Dolls, SBOTS/Settes. While the rivalry may run deep, you cannot deny that they are the greatest in the SWAC. I’m a J-Sette fan myself, but I heavily respect the Dolls and are the only other team where I am invested in the legacy. As you mentioned, at one point, dance lines everywhere have taken SOMETHING, be it a count, a formation in the field, style, you name it, from the Dolls and Settes. In my opinion, majorette dance is comprised of two styles: the Dolls and the J-Settes. Everyone else just falls in the middle, like a spectrum with the former two representing opposite poles.

J-settes held onto the capes a little too long for me. Looked like flag girls for a moment and it wasn’t clean. I liked them better in the stands but I do feel the Dancing Dolls edged them there as well.
I liked the J-settes ending of Ginuwine too and just realizing they did that. I agree, it was very creative and cute imo. Dolls just had a grown woman vibe on them that night that did it for me.

That’s exactly what it was giving Danni all the way. The fierceness , the bounce and attitude . I love that energy she’s giving while still being classy doll like. Very nostalgic in my opinion they have been missing in the pass recent years. Not saying it was bad thing just nice to see again.

I love Herb and like Morgan said when she’s on AWON she’s on but when she’s not she’s SO OFF and sometimes she’s only on for part of a song and then it’s like a switch that flips. I want her to of course not waste her music but also be more mindful of her counts cause sometimes it looks like she throws whatever is in reach. Dolls looked amazing and should put to her energy and execution and her team backing her up for sure!!

Very even battle to me! My only complaints are that Herb needs to work on hard vs soft and I need the Settes to throw those hips and backs out on some of these counts
Y’all be 4Real!.. Herb’s hard-hitting-305 execution is perfect for one of the ‘ettes’ squads, but IT IS NOT DOLLS.. She MUST add a lil ounce of Milk (Almond, Soy, Oat- whichever her choosing) to make a perfect balance of Finesse (i.e. Jada D., Jordan E., etc.)-that’s the evolution of Dolls in which they’re unique!

Minus that doll mess up the 5th quarter was pretty even! Dolls took 0 quarter and their field was amazing! The girls just need to pay attention to when Herb do a 16 in all together formations. Sette fans really thought they were about to run through the dolls & that simply didn’t happen! & the settes looked amazing. I loved every new count I just feel like they didn’t give them any good music. Settes were supposed to buck the fifth quarter out smh! 🤷🏽♀️

Herb is definitely taking it without a doubt, but sometimes she is hella aggressive on her movements. 5th quarter the team was backing her up. Jsettes look good as well especially with the new counts.
