I would say a bad blend will be extremely noticeable with a good line up and the bad blend will only be emphasized, but I think that’s what he meant mb. Overall good video thanks 👍
My barber is one of the best and been cutting my hair for over 20 years. He’s old school and doesn’t do guidelines. To him it’s like cheating and being lazy. He’s a true master at this craft. I can tell you got some skills too the way you cut and explain. You’ve been trained well and have experience and knowledge. Props to you💯
Kann, the no guideline system has worked out great for me. My fades are looking better than ever. Your tutorials are educational, especially without loud repetitious music distracting us from your commentary, thank you!! 😊
Guidelines is like a puzzle. You have to cut hair along a line at the same length and then blend into the guard size higher or lower than that one. The key is to blend all the lines evenly and smoothly. The reason guidelines works so well is that it gives the barber a chance to check his/her work and ensure the transition is smooth. Now,some barbers can do what this man does and it works for him. Ultimately though the client is the one who should decide what he likes. On self cuts, I use guidelines all the time because it helps me blend both sides of my head evenly. Thanks for the video !
I had an older mexican gentleman barber fade me up a couple times right before he retired and it was clean but you could still barely see his guide marks..looked like tetris or like he was following a grid. Interesting technique.
Grandfather owned a shop for 25 years. Taught me how to blend without guidelines using the Oster Classic 76. Never needed guidelines after learning with those clippers, taught me crazy feel with the 76.
You damn right brother. I always thought about it that way. It’s faster, smarter and better! that’s how I do my(my own hair) tapers and it comes out way better 👌🏼
Me too. I think without the use of guidelines barbers rush the haircut and the blend will not be as smooth. The type of hair also matters. On some people there's more dark spots than others and it requires more blending and with guidelines you can see that better.
There really is guidelines the only difference is after you bald it out you don’t move the lever all the way open and make a second line you only move the lever once for every level
Well, it isn't necessary to start off by making all 4 guidelines from the start. You could've already been blending out the bald line after making that 2nd guideline.
Guidelines slow you down, and you can cut without guidelines is being done from a long time, guidelines are for people learning to cut hair or learning new hairstyles.
The bald line is technically a guideline so you can’t really mess it up from there if you maintain consistent with the amount of hair being taken off at every level
I have about a year experience in cutting and i always fade without guidelines when i try making guidelines i feel that i be leaving some untouched bold spots..great video bro im a andis man though lol
Thanks for the video, I’m working at a barbers shop and seems like bald fade is most common cut. Very picky about it even though it grows out in a few days!
Guidelines or not, its the same amount of time. Also, your method of blending does not give room for flicking out unless its near the crown, causing you to blend in 1/4th of a guard increments in the majority of the blend. Whereas with guidelines, you have better flick-out room so you can still pull out a clean fade and save time by blending in 1/2 or 1/3rd of guard increments. Jorge zepeda is a good example
This is an outstanding video tutorial my man! This is like some kinda "Barbers: What they don't want you to know" type of video leak. LOL Very informative tho! Thanks!
that was a great tutorial for both methods..like how you did both even though you dont like to use guidelines you still gave great detail on both..thanks
Great cut my man! One of the best videos I’ve seen in a while in terms of ease of explanation. Keep up the great work. I just subscribed and am looking forward to more videos.
yo thanks for this! you explain fading and cutting the most clear out of most if not all videos on youtube lol keep it up!! maybe some combovers or other hairstyles would be nice
Wow bro that’s skill right there! I still use guidelines for safety I guess. But your right on doing the same work twice on guidelines. Need to start practicing how to blend without guidelines. Great cut by the way, also learn a lot on how you breakdown what and why you do what your doing.
Great video man! I'll have to give no guidelines a try. If you like the detailers and wahl, try out the cordless detailers. They got a lot of flack after they came out, but I ordered some up and absolutely love them. Much easier to use than my corded ones and much cleaner lines. My only complaint about them is they are a bit noisy.
He's right though. A baldline and guideline are 2 different things. Since I self cut I don't do the guideline route. Both ways work though. Just preference I guess.
Kann, Thank you so much for this video. Im two months into cutting hair and I love it, but I am having a hard time learning how to fade. I've been using the guideline method, but for some reason, my blends end up patchy. I have tried the no guideline method once before and it worked better for me than the guideline method. How did you learn the no guidelines method? Have you ever used the guideline method? Did it take long for you to master fading? I really need some inspiration from someone like you. Thank you for what you have done and what you are doing. You are really making a difference in peoples lives.
Personally think too much attention is played on the blend. In two days the blend is taken care of natural growth. I do my own just straight up to top quick flat top short on the top and done. Less than 15 20 minutes tops.
Trip look at guidelines like those street reflector bumps or drunk bumps ... they help keep u alert, on path and with long lines of customers waiting. 4get this guideline stuff n get paid. I listened to dude here ... and can now do some hard fades even faded ... capitalize swiftly n get paid.
I enjoyed this video when you started to mention the number of blade or guard in the beginning but you lost me when you continued to fade without mentioning is the blade numbers and whether they were open or closed? If you can use this comment to address the future videos I would appreciate it. I am definitely subscribing to you and will continue learn. Thanks for the great work :)
Dudes that have always used guidelines try fading down once and say it sucks. It’s the original way to fade and if you learn it right it’s the way to fade hands down. Had a dude used to try and “race” me using guidelines lol he never won. Not even close. Guidelines came about cause people didnt want to learn how to “eyeball” a haircut.
6:49 wait so my clippers come with a 0 guard so a .5 guard is basically a 0 guard? I don’t need to open it? Anyone help because ive been using no guard just half open as a .5 guard because i thought mine didn’t come with a .5 guard.
Yeah I don't get the difference between no guard and a zero guard? Idk if that's a idiot question but I only have a #1. No guard smaller than that came with.
Jj Rodriguez thats tuff mine comes with 0-8 guards just without a 5 guard but yea i found out that the zero guard is a .5 guard. And the difference is that the 0 guard just cuts less than no guard
Bad blend can be saved by a good line up! And a bad line up can ruin a good blend! 100% on point!
Brian Hoke thank you Brian 🙏🙏🙏
Hell no

what if you cut your own hair because of quarantine and now u have a bad line up and bad blend fml

I stopped cutting my own hair, makes my arm goes all sorts of ways.
The client doesn't decide what techniques you use to get the desired outcome. The client doesn't know how to cut hair.

i can cut a customers head bald without guidelines
ghost your a hacker thats so hard for me to do, i cant do any bald cuts without any guidelines i praise u Sir.

Regardless of how you make it seem there's still a guideline that you are using whether you say you do or dont
Yup
Okay 😂 get out noob
Still a way to do it with noooo guidline
Yeah in your brain, visualizing it invisibly.
Dude there is no guideline he is fading upward from bald to long hair vs therefore there is no erasing of guidelines 🤦🏽♂️
The best video I've seen, thanks for not rushing, not everyone picks it up super fast!
THIS IS INSANE!!! Thanks for the knowledge barber brotha! Love from Winnipeg CANADA!

So basically, you go up a 1/4 of an inch every time you go higher? That makes sense! Thanks bro I’m going to try this ASAP
Your client seems skeptical as to whether you're making a guideline or not haha
It’s called tip fading u can start fading just by using the tips of the clipper at an angle and using the shape of the clients head.
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I tried this method and the fade came out PERFECT!
Julie Kim wow that’s great!!!! That makes me so happy to hear that!! Thank you so much for the inspiration!!
