Your videos still get me excited about mens hair and its so good seeing you show how much more there is to mens hair rather than a barbers skin fade. Dan, you only do mens' hair? You should do womens' hair too. I like it that you take your time and you try to advise the customer on what to do and ask him what he wants and you do a wonderful job and you make the client feel at ease with you.
This channel is a revelation to me. I'm now old, but I remember taking my son for haircuts, and there were pictures on the wall of 5 haircuts to chose from. My husband just got "regular" haircuts. I had no idea that there were barbers out there that were so talented, caring, and informed. Or that there were men out there who cared that much about their hair. I really thought it was exclusively women's territory. I really appreciated the philosophy at around 14;00. I still don't think I've ever found a hair stylist who really knew what would suit me. At least they never explained what they were doing, or why it suited me. This is wild!
I think I am going to go to a barbers from now on as not one lady hairdresser in a salon has been able to cut my hair right as he logically describes here!

Wow. I've been watching TH-cam videos in order to clipper and/or scissor cut my husand's and sons' hair for about 10 years (cutting for 20, watch YT for 10 in order to make adjustments). Just did my youngest yesterday with ONLY scissors and there is something I still didn't like about it. After watching this I totally get that it is where the sides meet the back and the general shape there. My son is going to be so irritated with me when I whip out the cape and tell, "Come here for a minute -- I want to fix your hair." I will get a massive eye roll. Too bad! He's going to be a freshman and I want him looking fresh....man. 😅

So I’ve had straight hair my whole life. Back when I was going out and discussing plans with friends on the phone, I’d say I have to go now, I have to curl my hair, they’d say fine, I have to straighten mine! But here’s the thing, I’m 80 now, and my hair is becoming curly. A couple of years ago I had about 10 inches cut off, the hair cutter put an elastic band around the part she was cutting, put on the table in front of me where I watched the cut off hair have a life of it’s own and turned into a beautiful ringlet. So moral of this is don’t give up hope, you may one day have a glorious crown of curls! 😊
I think with haircuts its really about doing whatever that person wants to do to an extent. It can be a crazy haircut like a mohawk or a mullet, but still do little things to make that haircut look good on them and not as ridiculous it could possibly look like if you did exactly what they wanted, sometimes you can do a haircut for someone after they asked what they wanted, and it works perfectly without needed to add a professional opinion. But sometimes you need to, like dan said, look at their face shape and keep length where it’s necessary. Especially with beards, do what they want, but give your professional opinion at the same time and sort of compromise in a way
Would love to have hair like that! When I used to cut hair it was all scissors. Takes time, but you get it right and it grows out beautifully so you don't need a cut as often.

Amazing hair stylist, and it is a nice haircut.... However, in this case with his type of curly hair, I actually think it looked much better when he came in as it really softened his face nicely.
