Did the NVA really bomb the airfield with fleeing civilians? I have the feeling this was made up for the drama

No, but the Viet Công and NVA did bomb Highway 1 while it was being used by civilians fleeing south during the Easter offensive.

@@antonho2471Not Cong, PAVN didnt really deliberately hit anything with civilians, it was collateral damage because of the large ARVN presence there but yes, casualties occurred and many as well...

@@dobridjordjeNot deliberately? There was a confession from Le Xuan Thuy that his PAVN unit was ordered to fire artillery at any civilians or enemy personnel retreating from Quang Tri, 2,000-5,000 civilians causalities were inflicted because of the PAVN artillery.
Another example of this is at the Battle of An Loc (same period), where two refugee groups tried to leave the city during different times during the siege but were bombarded by PAVN artillery and had to go back to the city.
      This is was done deliberately.

With fleeing civilians? I would have to check. However, the North Vietnamese airfoce and a few defectors from the South Vietnamese airforce stole American-made aircraft (A-37 Dragonfly) to bomb Tan Son Nhut Airport on April 28, 1975 two days before the Fall of Saigon. So no, the scene you saw does not have a bombing of a runway "just for the drama". I hope that helps.

It's "Take The Flight!" on the soundtrack. Gets reused in a couple end credits too

Imagine an army of rice farmers having this kind of artillery. American imperialist propaganda is getting even more ludicrous

@@mightygerman8141 China was hella poor back then. Plenty of actual footage from the liberation of Saigon you can find here on TH-cam, but the only footage of civilians being bombed is by the US army which killed 3 Million people
