    A significant problem is doctors are taught to test for TSH and T4 levels, NOT T3 levels. I had to demand to be tested for T3, and sure enough, I needed T3 medication. It was not my doctor who figured this out. Although I do credit her for ordering the lab when I asked for my T3 level. A standard thyroid lab "panel" should be T4, TSH, and T3.

      Absolutely agree. We need those 3 tests at minimum to see if the medication we're taking is doing what it needs to do in our bodies to correct our hypothyroid symptoms. TSH alone is not enough.

    i was finally put on t3 but my doctor only gave me 5mcg. i keep hearing that i should have more. i am on the low end of my t3 and i am trying to get pregnant. my doctor says that 25mcg or more of t3 is only used for cancer patients.

      Talk to your doctor if you feel you need a dosage increase. There are a lot of T3 dosage options between 5 and 25 mcg. T3 is one of those things where going too high can become pretty uncomfortable with symptoms like racing heart, anxiety, and insomnia, so it can be good to go slow, but when you find the right dose for you, it can be a game changer! I know it was for me.

    The potential complications with hypo made me to postpone my completion thyredoctomy for thyroid cancer. I do not trust that I will be ok after. As well I am on a long journey for conceiving and hypo often cause infertility and pregnancy complications.

      Ooo not good. Go back to square 1. Have you watched enough videos to understand T3, T4, thyroid antibodies And reverse T3? Did you talk to your Drs about your concerns? All those tests should be done to understand as much as possible why your thyroid got sick. If T4 was normal but T3 low you may need combo therapy. Will your Drs support that need be? They will 👍they won’t find new Drs. Unnecessary T3 can cause big problems. Full panels!

    The current community standard of care where I live is...
    "CUT-RATE" insurance reimbursements to physicians
    encourages a "CUT-RATE" quality of patient care.
    YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!😉

    What about accepting a very suppressed tsh in a patient with central hypothyroidism followed by thyroidectomy (at menopause). Oh and she has Hashimoto's. And that patient's father died young of MTC, her brother has Hashi's with nodules and a hemi- thyroidectomy and her daughter has Hashi's plus 4 other autoimmune conditions? Still so much we dont know. IS a suppressed TSH dangerous in all cases?

      Honest question, if he was the President of The Thyroid Association why has nothing changed as far as treatment? Why is TSH still the standard and treatment with T3 is like asking for a voodoo dance? Drs are being brainwashed into treating with T4 only, so who’s telling them this? Something stinks in the medical system regarding thyroid issues, they are so quick to remove the thyroid without knowing how to treat people afterwards.. I’ve been living in this nightmare for 30 years.. they can find out very quickly how many are suffering if they just asked the Drs, and if the Drs are really listening to their patients? Seems to me the only Drs who seem to want to find a solution are one who either they or their loved ones are suffering..

    How is the "normal range" of free T3 determined? Is that range part of the problem? I am told my T3 is "normal".

    • @barbdwyer7001
      @barbdwyer7001 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on which laboratory performs the test... The normal range is as follows : Total T3 -- 60 to 180 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL), or 0.92 to 2.76 nanomoles per liter (nmol/L) Free T3 -- 130 to 450 picgrams per deciliter (pg/dL), or 2.0 to 7.0 picomoles per liter (pmol/L). "Normal" may not be "Optimal", however!

    I just ordered the book and listened to this show. My thyroid shut down from Keytruda during chemo treatment last year. Then in March of this year I was extremely sick (105 fever) in hospital for 5 days. Turns out I had Epstein Barr (I know crazy). 25 pound weight gain, so tired, muscles ache, and brain fog that scares me. What I am wondering is the side effect of the combo treatment?
