Sonic riders is about the furthest from mario kart you can get - the sonic community will pardon your crimes this time but next time you're going on the cross!
My humble apologies, as I misspoke it seems. I meant it as; Zero gravity kind of set the ground work for Mario kart 8 when it comes to its gravity mechanics. I am a Sonic Riders die hard always 🙂↕️
I imagine that the framing device that makes the most sense for a Greek Mythology ensemble cast is Jason and the Argonauts, with Sonic taking the place of Jason. Knuckles is a perfect fit for Heracles, Tails could be Argus, Silver could maybe work for Orpheus, Shadow maybe could be Theseus, Blaze or Rouge could be Atalanta. Maybe you could even have Amy as Medea? Our Shahra clone is probably an oracle of Delphi
I’d actually love if they went all the way in on this concept. I know for Secret Rings, they really pulled deep from the actual stories of the Arabian Nights. Black Knight kept it surface level, but to see a return to form would bring tears to my eyes.
At 10:04 you stated Athena was the Goddess of Love. She is the Goddess of Wisdom while Aphrodite is the Goddess of Love. I think Rouge would make a good Aphrodite as she is mature enough to have a better understanding of love and she's a bit of a femme fatale. I don't think Amy's a good fit for Athena. She could be Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt or Persephone, Goddess of Spring. As Artemis, I feel her constant pursuit of Sonic translates well to the persistence a hunter needs when tracking prey. As for Persephone, Spring is associated with positivity and energy, which Amy has in spades. Persephone is also the wife of Hades. And part of me would like to see the fanbase's reaction to an official (albeit not main canon) Shadow x Amy pairing. There are also numerous lesser-known goddesses that she could play. At 10:43 you said MacGyver. MacGyver is the name of the protagonist from both the 1985 and 2016 TV series of the same name. The word you wanted was "macguffin." Anyway, good video. Maybe you can flesh out your ideas in a future video.
I appreciate the education, insight, and correction without the typical ‘tone’ those things can come with on TH-cam. Glad you still enjoyed the concept of the video regardless, and thanks for tuning in! Feel free to stick around if it fancies you!
I say it should play like ff7RE because Sonic games are about speed and Frontiers and Shadow Generations has fighting in it so it would just make sense to me they would go in that direction.
@ it’s insane that Sega has one of the greatest RPG makers in video game history and one of the most recognisable video game characters of all time yet has never even given them more than a costume collab in a mediocre game, let alone a whole game around it
Probably just a matter of time. I know Persona was kind of niche before 5 rolled around, and that’s all they needed to get put on the map. Sonic had those rough years like I’m sure you know, but we’re so back for both these franchises
@ even before 5 made Atlus and Persona mainstream, it was still a cult classic franchise, people loved Persona 3 and 4, Atlus has been making masterpieces since at least 2006
Oh no denying it, Atlus has been, and always will be the RPG studio of all time. 5, is just when people outside of those who were already in love with them, fell in love with
The RPG style I would like to see would be similar to Final Fantasy, but since you mention Sonic possibly breaking the fourth wall by mentioning his menu, it reminds me of how in the Mario and Luigi RPG series, the brothers would look at their commend blocks before choosing a move. I would like to have a sort of counter-attack/dodge mechanic as I think Sonic wouldn't want to stand there and take a hit but would be disabled depending on certain events or bosses for an extra challenge. Action RPG would be more fitting but it seems like it would slow down the pacing if done poorly. Maybe some of those Frontiers elements of combat can work in this case.
Yoooo ok ok you cooked with that. Can’t believe I didn’t even consider interactions with the UI like that. That’d be a completely “Sonic” thing to do !!!
My concept has always been having his boost meter to enable parry an toppling of foes and side-step dodge, he also has throw-able items that can stun an apply affect to foes Shads would use Chaos control to pause into a sorta grid map to do multiple actions before resuming proper time, his attacks are firearms with alternative effect ammo and Max Payne slow-mo topped off with a few melee hits to tun a target I have more ideas if you want them
I hadn't even thought about incorporating the boost as a(n) RPG mechanic. That's actually a really innovative direction to that take that sort of thing. KEEP COOKING!
@@Jiggyx3 Silver is able to keep a limited amount of objects in perma stasis for traversal an cover which can move around at will and every objects got its own properties so envision simpler BOTW rune nonsense to destroy everyone
if they do another RPG in general, then i would want them to have every character that was playable in Sonic Battle and in Sonic Chronicles, to be playable. cuz those already have established fighting movesets, where as anyone else would require much more work trying to figure out how to make them work in an RPG (in many of the subgenres of RPGs).
I don’t think sonic the hedgehog himself particularly works well in RPG’s His gimmick is that he runs really fast but when speed is a stat. Sonic is not faster than anyone He makes tornadoes and stuff but Amy is faster because I say so
Why the hell you'll make speed a stat in an action rpg(as Sonic should have an ARPG instead of a turn based one), that's for games that can show literal speed in it's gameplay, maybe how sonic frontiers does it, increasing non boost(as while boosting in that game Sonic behaves like you have max speed stat) initial acceleration and top speed. Edit: and yes I know the maker of this video wants a turn based rpg in some extent but the best adaption that can be done with sonic to rpg are action or pseudo action (mario & Luigi, deltarune, MegaMan battle network) like RPGs.
Fair point, and that’s why I included the challenge room sections. I can see your viewpoint though about Sonic needing to stay true to what he was created to do too
I’m particularly torn between the two tbh. Kingdom hearts is my personal game style of choice, but having to be methodical like in turn-based RPGs scratches an itch in my brain. Genuinely couldn’t choose between the two when it comes down to it though
@@carlostejeda4341 i Think Sonic Fontier combat is the worst part of the game. The bosses are more about looking cool. there nothing to learn the optimized combo is stomp spaming
@@minakohiashi8882 I kinda agree with you, the combat in frontiers is flashy but mid at best, but I'm not talking about how the combat works mechanically but statistically, and how those stat affect game mechanics, in an ideal sonic game (in my opinion) sonic is mechanically complete since the very beginning to end (exceptions can be upgrades of the moves you have, maybe the gimmick of that game in case of one or unlockable characters)with some sections and you "the player" are the one to learn how to use them(like sonic unleashed PS2/Wii {my fav. of the 3}, colors and gens, sadly no adventure style game has this beyond the advance series and that is a stretch). The difference is that in a sonic game (speed platformer) with combat as one of the main points I consider that most if not all moves used in combat should have use as a platforming tool(therefore no move except some flashy special you have to charge or something like that should be able to take away control from you), combat should be more dynamic (most enemies fast and agile with counted exceptions, low general hp for characters and most enemies for fight or flight oriented fights) and courses that reward you for chaining those moves to reach places that look like you shouldn't be able to access normally (like the adventure games) with some sections where combat will make things easier or sometimes required (rush or heroes more or less comes to mind with that).
I think some kind of hybrid action/turn based system like FF7R would be best for Sonic. Do a variety of basic attacks and dodging to build up a meter to use your powerful spells or items. Also, Tangle could work as being linked to Pan, but I’d prefer Stix for an additional ranged fighter. (I think Tails, Silver, and Shadow would primarily fight at range). Also, you could maybe have Cream and Cheese replace the OC member, and have them help the party come together to use the team-up attacks again for phase 2 of the fight (I imagine they wouldn’t be quite as strong as with the OC, but still stronger than regular attacks)
@ I think I prefer the OC being a party member so players get attached to them, maybe Cream and Chese (maybe even Chocolate) could be the non-combatants, until the end.
I would probably want see the rpg format from the Trails series, specifically Trails through Daybreak. The overworld is freeroam combat and at any time, you could go into turn based.
Regarding storybook game related ideas, I honestly just want something like Secret Rings, except with issues smoothed out and actually finished controls. Sadly, such a sequel does not exist. Instead we got "i aM kiNg ArTHuR" with the catch that it is surprisingly ambiguous if it actually happened or if Sonic made it up(While even SR at least got the "Sonic forgot the details, but it 100% happened" treatment in later games).
I think Secret Rings with analog/nunchuck controls would be goated. The zones in that game for sure had more style than black knight, but black knight had the benefit of coming out later and being fleshed out. At least the stories for both are pretty good!
I would love to see what the the Super Sonic form of this game would be, since botj Story book games ended with a new Super like form for Sonic (Darkspine and Excalibur). Perhaps a lightning and wind based form?
I can imagine that being the case for Sonic, and it’d be awesome to see him potentially have connections to that worlds’ Zeus. Maybe it could be an “Avatar-State” moment for Sonic in the final battle ?
