I worked for these guys for 23 wonderful years. And guess what? They are doing shows again!! They called me pre-pandemic in 2020, and now, two years later we've already hit the road. Hope you get the chance to see them. We just finished the Johnny Carson Music Festival and also did shows at the Luther Burbank Center, Bankhead Theater, Golden State Theatre and more.... Keep an eye out!
I just spent the last month and a half living with him as one of his caregivers, along with his wonderful family. There is no replacing Tommy, there never has been, nor will there ever be another like him. Very sad times here... @@felixmadison5736
You're so right!!! When they were getting ready to air the 20th reunion show on CBS,Howard Stern said,'What's the big deal?" It was then his star dropped with me; He should have counted his blessings for guys like the Smothers Brothers. They took the hardest hit for the stuff he's able to do today.
I wish this clip had included the final part of the song. Their "Church Bells" song is amusing. I love the way that they ad lib stuff to keep it fresh (once you've heard this song in its entirety, you don't forget it).
The Smothers Brothers Comedy Show was one of the best shows to ever grace television. I am always amazed at how so many folks do not know the kinds of politically incorrect stuff that appeared on TV back in the 1970s and 80s that would never make it on TV today!
They were a scream, we loved them when I was growing up. They were also very courageous, made social comments even though the network objected, and findally cancelled their show because they were just too outspoken. They're funny, and classy. Your selection of faves doesn't indicate you'd appreciate the Smothers.
It's great to see this, again! It is too bad the punchline is missing, though. If you sing the bell sounds all together, it's the 'Shave and a Haircut' tune. The Smothers Brothers were and still are geniuses!
You probably forgot all about your comment since it's been 7 years. :-) But yeah, I was waiting for the same punch line, having heard it many times on one of their records. You described it well.
well actually they DO........the clip got cut before the song finished dang it!!!!! I have searched for this for YEARS and I thought FINALLY.......but the BEST PART was cut off!!!! they do ring to the old "Shave and hair cut, two bits" at the end.......sighs....this was on the Quiet you Nave" (I think was the name of it) album....I had the old vinal but it got broken when I moved to Germany. I will HAVE This again some day! Thanks for posting at least this much of it! Wish you had it all!
All great comedies you've listed but the Smothers Brothers took chances & paid the prices. They paved the way for a great many comics/comedians to do topical humor on network t.v & radio.People like Howard Stern should have their picture in his house & office!!
This was originally telecast at the end of the season they starred in their filmed sitcom about Tommy the angel, and Dick as his exasperated brother. Happily, six months after this, CBS scheduled "THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS COMEDY HOUR" right after Ed Sullivan on Sunday nights.
It's too bad that the whole song wasn't posted... it's quite a funny routine, John MaGee, I should inform you, that this is all part of the routine, and not spontaneous, that is why they were so good, they made it look spontaneous. :)
@KennethHasUTubeCams2 This clip cut off before the Smothers Brothers got to the joke at the end of the song, unfortunatly. When you put all the bells together at the end, the sing "Dong Ding Ding Dong Dong, Ding Ding" using the "Shave and a haircut, two bits" melody line. Look up "2008 Joshua Piano Shave and A Hair Cut Song" on TH-cam - the last 7 notes he plays are the "shave and a haircut' melody line.
@BuckWilliams17 It really IS timeless. I'm a 16 year old catholic private school student, and this makes me realize that the REAL alternative comedy was what we started with haha
That's right, 'vivid'- the better to keep Ed's viewers away from "BONANZA" {then #1 in its time period on Sunday nights} long enough to get them to sit through the first few minutes of their show.
Shared a pitcher of beer with Tommy at the Exodus in Denver in 1960, real nice down to earth guy. Not at all like the clown he acted on stage. While another performer was on stage, Tom & Dick were practising (enthusiastically) in the back, had to be quieted down as they were disturbing the act on stage.
@rockman399 I have not noticed that there are more jokes about Catholics than Jews, Italians, Blacks, Latinos, or various other groups. Also, the best jokes I've heard about Catholics have been told by Catholics, the best jokes I've heard about Jews have been told by Jewish comedians, the best jokes about blacks have been told by black comedians, etc. Also, this joke is pretty mild. Tom tells Dick that the Catholics will get him, but that is not to be taken seriously.
@ch1aka2 Ed Sullivan was much more extensive. American Idol involves only singers. Sullivan had singers, comedians, and every kind of variety act. Also, you did not have judges and the audience picking a winner. People just came on and did their routine. Some went on to stardom. Some did not. Also, although some acts were bad, Sullivan never deliberately picked a bad act. They were all acts he thought were good.

sweeeet!! 💜
I think you'll have to find a replacement for Tommy.😮💨
I just spent the last month and a half living with him as one of his caregivers, along with his wonderful family. There is no replacing Tommy, there never has been, nor will there ever be another like him. Very sad times here... @@felixmadison5736
What a wonderful experience. Wished I could have seen them again.
I would've loved to have seen them. Dang. Tommy was such an underrated guitar player because he made it look so easy.

Rest in peace, Tom❤
Loved those brothers back when I was a kid. Still just as good today ❤👍
"They'll get you". Oh my god, it's 2011 and I'm laughing hysterically at a couple of guys playing standup base and doing comedy :P This is so great!
Exactly... that line and the way he delivers it is classic. I'm also still laughing at that impromptu bit.
and that song !... so Smothers Brothers.
My parents had all of their albums. And we watched their show.
I wish this clip had included the final part of the song. Their "Church Bells" song is amusing. I love the way that they ad lib stuff to keep it fresh (once you've heard this song in its entirety, you don't forget it).
These guys were great

Yes!! I remember that, and I was waiting for it to happen. I wish it were all there, too.
OMG!!!! I Laughed till I cried watching this. These Two are Nuts!!!!! But def. Two of the Greats :')
I'm amazed of video quality. Very crisp and sweet colors.
They were a scream, we loved them when I was growing up. the one brother is a yoyo expert. tricks he does are amazing with da yoyo...
RIP Tommy.
Still funny 68yrs later
Let's see in the year 2034 :)
Amanda O'Brien more like 51 years later dumbass
Still funny 78 years later 😂
OMG! This was when I first heard them sing this song!!! I now see it has a small lesson that all churches can blend as one.

The whole routine makes no sense without that punchline. What a shame it wasn't included. 😪
Thank you!
I was waiting for “ Mom always liked you best!”
they're hilarious

The album was "Curb Your Tongue, Knave"

Where's the rest of their skit? Wish I could see the whole video.
Hilarious! And I thought it was spontaneous until I read the comments.
RIP Tom

Yep, that's right, and you described it even before the person I just complimented, above. 😀
This actually killed me.
Is it Richard on the left? That’s too funny he ragged on Tom on stage! 😂
That was the whole act. That's what made it funny.
Dong, ding ding Dong Dong, ding ding!
@BuckWilliams17 It really IS timeless. I'm a 16 year old catholic private school student, and this makes me realize that the REAL alternative comedy was what we started with haha
haha 44 years ago today!!!!!
ive got a damn similar blazer. damn thas some swag
3 days before my 18th birthday.
I want to hear the rest of the song.
@goindownthe1road
Everybody's hair in the 60's wouldn't move if there has a windstorm! Haha.
Lets hope so . .
No wonder they got their own show.

😄 funny
@ja3399 Right on!
Who's that guy with Daniel Tosh?
Daniel Tosh looks like Tommy Smothers
Lot of churches for a small little town
You skipped the punchline! Smatter? Battery go dead?
You cut the PUNCH LINE!!! :(
Greg Glazier what was the punch line?
Any when else think that they were gonna go "dingalingaDONGBONGBIIINGBABINGABINGBONAdingaling" And stuff? No? ;;
what did he say about catholics im not getting it
Are the Venture Bros inspired by the Smothers Brothers?
The main point is missed without the rest of the skit. Try humming all of the church tones in a row just as they were presented.

I would never scold my brother on live tv and make him feel uncomfortable just so that I can appear "the funny entertainer"
Why did you cut the clip short? Boo! Hiss! You got the whole setup, then cut it off right before the punch line.
why...?
Awww, you cut out the punch line to the song. The bells ding to shave and a haircut two bits. sigh
Why on earth did you cut this up. Love the smothers Brothers but I hold a lower regard for you for cutting this up.
audience track is too loud
Press 2 :3
Lovely receding hairlines.
Little houses made of Ricky tacky
Boo! The routine was cut before the damn punchline.
"Right, Ed?" :-)
Ed would've been Catholic
dabble, Ed was Jewish.
Synagogues do not have bells.
It’s missing the freaking punchline. WTF, this is not a really big shoe. It’s not a shoe at all.
They don't even have the punchline posted! What a ripoff!
Wow. Back when is was legal to be a balding white man.
Thats dumb you left off the punchline for the song
Joan Rivers
Stop.....please.......Thanks
Not funny.
