The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

What an amazing experience all grandfathers can be wonderful.... watching his performance , and being able to share them gives me the ability to let people understand what it’s like inside my head.... A gift to me personally from your grandfather. He is loved and always will be as long as there are representations of his beautiful legacy of performances.

Are there really only these few clips of Senor Wences? No one could do rapid-fire exchanges between multiple characters like this guy could. Even late in life, when he couldn't keep his lips from moving, he was hysterical!

Senor Wences was the best ventriloquist ever. His amazing skill and humor still amazes me today. I love the way he changes tones depending on if Pedro's box door is open or closed , lol.

My wife is younger than I am, and didn't remember Sr. Wences. So when, this morning while she was fixing breakfast, I came in the kitchen and, seeing the pan with a lid, said "S'awright?" lifted the lid and said "S'awriight!" she had no idea what I was talking about. I had to show her, and now she's hooked. This is a marvelous sample. Comedy was so different in those days, and Sr. Wences did other things, as well, like juggling while he ventriloquized. I think I'll Fw it to my dad.

What nostalgia you have shared. As a kid I watched him perform on the Ed Sullivan Show, and after watching Senor Wences for the first time, I couldn't wait to see him again. The "it's all right" man in the box still cracks me up. Though he performed many years ago, I would be willing to bet that the kids of this generation would enjoy him just as much. The fact that we can see his lips moving at times seems completely unimportant to me.What I appreciate is his sense of timing and humor. If you simply sit there waiting to catch the illusion out then you are robbing yourself of the magic. Art sometimes demands that we suspend our disbelief and allow ourselves to become active participants in the illusion.

I was very glad to find this clip and he was indeed a genius in my opinion. I'm glad that artists like Jeff Dunham today are keeping the almost lost art of ventriloquism alive and well. It keeps the legacy of someone like Senor Wences alive and available for future generations to enjoy!

Wow, this is so great! Señor Wences was one of my favorites on Ed's show when I was a kid. I even have the 1961 45-rpm record that has "Deefeecult For You, Easy For Me" one side, and "S-All Right? S-All Right!" on the other.
The audience didn't care that you could see his lips move. We liked his silliness. I mean, seriously, a talking head in a box?

So his lips moved, who cares - Peter Brough was a ventriloquist on the RADIO. Senor Wences was always one of my favourite acts on TV as I grew up, his characters were brilliant and his act was funny that's what counted. But to say (as beasst94 does below) that no one can handle 5 voices in one act today, I would answer, watch Jeff Dunham. Thank you to whoever put this video up on TH-cam, it brought back so many happy memories.

I can imagine that he was virtually unknown for many generations of comrades, in which I include myself, and that is sad. I've discovered him today and I am amazed to see how good and fun he was, glad to know he had the success he deserved in the US. What amazes me most is that his nephew, José Luis Moreno, who also was ventriloquist (among other professions) had huge success here in the 80s-90s.

Senor Wences appeared 23 times on Ed's program (including Elvis Presley's second appearance on the show, in October 1956); he was one of Sullivan's "evergreen" performers [going as far back as being part of several of his charity benefit shows during World War II], and could always be counted on to "entertain the family" at home (and in the studio) inbetween the "bigger acts" to follow...

It has been so long since I've seen Senor Wences (I keep wanting to spell that 'Wencles' for some noel reason), that I had forgotten that he was a master ventriloquist. Mostly, I remembered the hand with lipstick routine and, of course, "S'right" {i.e. Pedro in a box}. What I am leading up to is that NOW I do kinda watch his lips, simply out of amazement. When I was a child, I don't think I even GOT the idea that the man was doing all of the voices.
