    Hello Peter, Dont take this the wrong way but your voice puts me to sleep. Your videos are very helpful since I have a Toyota, but I also listen to your accent because it relaxes me and puts me to sleep. Im saying this as a compliment. Good luck!

    I wonder why you use 5W-50 oil instead of 5W-30?

    • @MonsieurCafe
      @MonsieurCafe 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should be 5W30 or 0W30 for very cold countries

  • @vitico0006
    @vitico0006 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    (Toyota recommed in all corolla´s from 1998 to 2008 use 5w30) and ( from 2009 to 2015 recommend use 5w20 or 0w20) ,,, ( 5w50 is not for this car had much viscosity that cause wear , and can damage the engine and your vvt-i system to avoid this use correct oil , everything else you did well...!

      Victor De Leon Hello. Almost all high quality oils are good. And oils goes soon within 10 000 miles = black oil.

    Peter you do very good videos and they are very helpful. I just have a question; Do I need to reset anything on the dashboard after an engine oil change on a 2002 Corolla D4D 2 liters 110 horsepower? I did not see you do it though. Thanks in advance. And hey I like your accent.

    hey peter ,thank you for werry usefull videos, i have a corolla e12 2004 1.6 185.000 km. when the engine is cold as it is in denmark now (january) the engine is ticking the first 5 min. i think it sound like the hydrollic valvelifters, is that right ? or should i be worry ? i use shell helix 5w 30 oil and change for every 15.000 km.

    • @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor
      @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is the lifters. You could adjust the valve cap. Look my adjust video: th-cam.com/video/Wc-zCDjH_Uo/w-d-xo.html

      I would not use tongs like that on a 1.8 liter Corolla engine with the cartridge filter system.

  • @stevensevek6151
    @stevensevek6151 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should mention which engine. Corollas in those years had two different engine choices with very different oil filters.

    every here I have looked, the 2009 corolla has a plastic cartridge type filter housing that is horizontal, not the traditional steel in the vert. position you show. I need to change the oil and am confused which car this is....

      AffordBindEquipment Hello. I need to do new video.

    • @stevensevek6151
      @stevensevek6151 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There were two different four cylinders available during this period. Evidently his is the 2.4 liter with the spin-on canister filter. The 1.8 liter has the cartridge system.

  • @joshnic6639

    I have a 2009 Toyota Corolla. If the oil on my dipstick is halfway between the two dots, how much oil should I add to it?

    • @stevensevek6151
      @stevensevek6151 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your owner's manual should tell you. On our 2009 RAV4 the difference between the two marks on our dip-stick is 1.6 quarts. Our RAV4 has a 2.5 liter four cylinder. A 2009 Corolla would have either a 1.8 or 2.4 liter four cylinder, so may be different.

    Dear Peter,
    I own corolla 1.6 vvti 2002 with 240.000 km engine. There is some 1l oil consumption on every 5000 km (+ - ). can you suggest me what oil to use for this engine? This one or some other? What you think about valvoline max life 10w40?
    Thank you in advance

    • @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor
      @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Mobil 1 lowers your car oil consumption

    • @sasacovic
      @sasacovic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Peter, but which Mobil? 5w50 (from this video) or something else? What about Mobil 1 'extended life 10w60'?

    • @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor
      @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      All Mobil 1 fits to your car. Mobil 1 is superb oil. If you have Lexus ISF or Lexus LFA, then we should choose more accurate Mobil 1 oil. Look this engine video: th-cam.com/video/9c2RlNvuqd0/w-d-xo.html

      Hi Aleksander,
      It's not only a oil that we use. Problem is in the engine. Because Corolla model 2001-2004 had some problem with Oil consumption(short block?) which was fix in 2004. Same is for me. Recently i have change the o-ring of chain tensioner (it is 22x3.5 ) and soon I'll change oil so I can tell if oil consumption fall. I use Elf 5w30.

  • @shilau

    The debate about oil viscosity is always open. I run on my 2010 Honda 0W40. I believe it is a good compromise and still protective when temperatures get very warm but Honda USA recommends 0W20, while the same car here in Italy runs with 0w40 (recommended by Honda dealer). Where is the truth? The engines are the same? Is fuel consumption the only reason?

    • @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor
      @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      shilau My major rule is always to use Mobil 1 oil and Mobil 1 viscosity is minor thing. I use Mobil 1 oil to all my cars: Toyota, BMW, Honda and GM. If I would own super cars like Lexus ISF or BMW M3, then I might use only just Mobil 1 with right viscosity.

    • @stevensevek6151
      @stevensevek6151 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you 100 % sure the engines are the same in every way?

  • @condor5635
    @condor5635 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks to me your oil level barely touches the dipstick but I can't see very good in the video. That would be a bad thing to start the engine with that level
