    Condesa Lucia
Sound: Beautiful, warm, spacious and with lots of air. Their harmonics fall in love. Hugs you. HiFi
Feeling: the most demanding audiophiles should be very satisfied with such a mixer. I see it perfect to play music with soul. The ISO is very soft and friendly, I know that there are now options of discrete ISO and ISO IC 24db that will surely be more playful
Aesthetics: Beautiful and robust. It is a beauty. I think that condesa makes the most beautiful mixers in the world.
    E & S DJR 400
    Sound: powerful and round.
Feeling: Blends melt creating great sensations. The ISO is incredibly fun and isolates very clearly all the frequencies, you have to watch it do not happen because it can be a bit strident if you squeeze it, but that only depends on who uses it.
Aesthetics: a classic well designed. It has everything very well put in very little space.
    Can Electric Taula 4
Sound: Reminds me of the powerful but more neutral DJR.
Feeling: In the mix I have had feelings very similar to the DJR, the tracks fuse very well. ISO is similar to E & S but without being so aggressive.
Aesthetics: with a lot of personality, it is different to all with its included suitcase and the connections in the front panel. Big
    Condesa Lucia
Sonido: Precioso, calido, amplio y con mucho aire. Sus armónicos enamoran. Te abraza. Hifi
    Can Electric Taula 4
Grande.

Great to see the differing opinions in the comments! Shows that it really is a matter of taste.
Listening to this on high quality midrange monitors. Even allowing for the TH-cam compression etc, the differences are clear.
Contessa sounds horribly coloured. People often refer to this as 'warm', when it seems to be a roll off on the high frequencies. Great if that's your thing, but not great for that kind of cash! For a taste of real warmth with added clarity, try the Mastersounds Valve range. To my ears the Taula sounded closest to truth.
Recently got into the rotary thing. Got myself a Mastersounds Radius. Lovely clean uncoloured sound.

I can't believe my eyes and ears. I am so deliciously impressed. Seeing the interest in this style of mixing board. It hasn't gone out of fashion...in fact, it looks like it's thriving and this is fantastic news. I don't think it ever went away but too many colleagues turned their noses up at me whenever I would try to season their knowledge with my Bozak CMA 10-2 DLA or years later with the rotary RANE. The rotary mixer is from the school of olde...I never imagined it would be a more than popular alternative to the proverbial slide technique. The amount of thought, sleepless nights, the labor of love behind the building and design of these beautiful machines...machines that are actually works of art. Thank you for sharing these, sharing the gift of technique, the gift of music and the admirable talent. Cheers!

After switching back and forth on the video you can clearly hear the differences in the mixers, very interesting. I would say the Condessa is the most open and round/warm, followed by the Taula. The E&S sounded closed and sharp, very forward but in a bad way. I have also read that E&S uses cheap parts, probably contributes to its brittle sound. Taula might be better for modern digital dance music, digital tracks with a lot of low end may end up sounding muddy in the mix on the Condessa.

Great comparison. The Condesa sounds more bassy, less hi end, i'm not sure is that the definition of warm and full. Taula more balanced. E&S nothing special in my taste. Of course with TH-cam it is imposible to hear what you really hear with your speakers. Amazing mixers all!

Listening to this video through my studio monitors (very flat freq) and, obviously all sound great. I definitely agree that the Condesa sounding the warmest and most open (would love to purchase this to be honest), love the simple layout of the DJR. The Taula is really growing on me now. Love that it has a GAIN dial so I can mess with the volume dial without it going crazy.

I found the phono preamps on my Taula to have a lower signal-to-noise-ratio than the phono amps on my “cheap” Reloop RP-7000 turntables. This could be noticeable if playing quiet records that need a channel gain boost.
When increasing the gain you can start hearing noise and humming if using the phono preamps on the mixer, but when I use the turntable preamps and connect to the mixer via line-in then the gain can go all the way up remaining dead quiet (noise-wise).
This is something I tested at maxed out volumes (clearly with no music playing) for SNR comparison, on real use it’s unlikely to be an issue.
I still think it’s a great sounding mixer and I love it.

IMHO, Condesa, is definitely warmest / most organic, with the fattest bass. Taula is definitely the most "audiophile" - modern sounding, very fast and transparent & a very linear response. To me, the DJR400 isn't even in the same league as the other two - it's very dark and occluded sounding, yet has a bit of that opamp screech on the mid-highs that makes it very fatiguing to listen to. Just my opinion though....(been a dj for 35 years, have a Bozak, Urei, and about 10 other classic rotaries to compare).

    • @philtowers1392
      @philtowers1392 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

And THIS is why i waste time reading youtube comments. Once per thousand comments somebody offers a worthwhile opinion based on knowledge. Don't suppose you'd suggest a good rotary with eq per channel AND at least cue mix. The 1620 is beautiful but i cant get along with no split cue. I played somewhere yesterday and had to mostly headphone mix, the monitor was an earbleeder. If there had been no headphone cue mix, I' d have been dead. Also dont want to throw down a grand on an isolator. That's robbery.

    • @Robbie66dj
      @Robbie66dj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hi Phil. A good rotary with channel e.q. and cue mix? That's a tough one, and unfortunately depends on budget. The earlier Rane MP and XP 2016 combo CAN be a good one, but only with mods. Stock, it is a pretty dreadful, dreary sounding mixer. Thinking about it, GLi (the old american mixer company), made (as their last hurrah) a rotary mixer, model 5990 (later 91) that had three stereo inputs (phono / line switchable), with crossfade as well (betw. channels 1&2). It also had three band tone per channel, split cue / cue mix, efx loops, and a whole slew of other features. If cleaned up, it is a very nice sounding mixer, not quite a Bozak / Urei, but nice. Also, in the classics department , Numark (I know, I know....) made, in the mid-to-late 80's, a higher end series called PPD. In that range, there were 2 rotaries; the MMX1000, which was a Urei clone (just with led v.u. meters and a crossfade) - and then, the MMX2000, which added three band tone per channel, plus a bunch of other shit (like tape loops and monitoring for home hifi, etc). Both of these Numarks were actually superb sounding, nice looking, had split cueing, and were seriously pretty indestructible. All of these mixers are semi-rare, but CAN be found- if one looks (especially on ebay). The only other option that I regularly suggest is : take a mixer that YOU love the sound of, and convert it to rotary. It's NOT that difficult! Anyway, hope this helps. If you want to continue this convo (I have a few other suggestions), let's not thread-jack; hit me up via pm / my channel. Happy new year!

For me the Condesa has better low end which is nice to have when you need it and the Taula 4 has less of a punch but seperation and clarity is nice. Very clean I would say and I agree regarding the E&S DJR 400 has by far the poorest sound of the three. I know a few DJ's that have it. It's pricey for the poor sound that it gives you. Personally I think they are over rated. I picked up a 2 channel Omnitronic: TRM-202MK3 last year it sounds great. Great price point for what you get in this mixer. The sound I would say is between the Condesa and the Taula 4. They also came out with a 4 channel which really looks nice.

Lucia nails it for imaging. For sure it's with got a natural bass hump or the other others are rolled off. Lucia projects the audio higher vertically than the Taula?

So the E&S has no trim/gain pots and no channel meters, but is IC-based and has an active mix bus, right? The Taula appears to be a better-built version of it, not to mention the trim/gains and meters. The Condesa is based on the Bozak -- a passive mix bus fed by just resistive pots, followed by a glorified mic preamp and bus for the cue?

    • @Kayr311

No need, there's so much headroom you don't need to bump it to 10. Plus, unity gain it likely around 7/8 on most rotaries (taula is at 7). Plus, if the mixer doesn't have a trim/gain, then you definitely don't want to put it to 10.

Groovefella B. Cunha put it on 10 if you have a Radius or maybe the A&H V6 with Trim/Gain.
On my Urei u have to level by ear, on most rotarys by ears.

@@sziya7 So unity gain is at 10 on the volume knob and trim at 0 (12 o'clock)? Is this for the newest model version? I've been using the channel at 7 and the master at 5 and it seems pretty on point when it comes to input=output. But then again this is on version 2 of their mixers, maybe the newest MR version has a different setting.

Not at all. Its not equivalent to those mixers. Equivalent would be the valve 4 which is ~2700 pounds. Thats way more than what you pay for those.
