  • An in-depth look at the double mixer solution we created in the Bar DJ booth at Sheaf St, UK. Collaborating with Andy Rigby-Jones (Master Sounds / A&H Xone / Model 1) - 2-second changeover from Liner mixer (Pioneer DJM 900 Nexus 2) to Rotary mixer (Master Sounds Radius 4). Hot-swappable live with no interruption to audio output. How it works and why we made it.

    Amazing - extremely clever idea and massive props to you for actually caring. So many bar owner couldn't care less and as a DJ it's really refrshing to see that. Came across this while researching the MasterSounds mixers as looking to get one and now found a really cool bar in Leeds!

    6:11 Ah... just as I suspected, a Matrix Mixer. I learned about this on Native Instruments' Reaktor 5 when I was trying to make a surround sound DJ rig.

    Great idea and implementation. One question though, how does the system maintain the levels when switching between mixers? i.e if the DJM is on near the redline, but the corresponding channel on the Radius is zeroed, does the sound drop out until the DJ ramps that channel up?

    • @JamesAbbottDonnelly
      @JamesAbbottDonnelly  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      We match the two main and booth outputs prior to using it. providing the level on each channel is at full and the gain hasn't been messed with in an extreme way then the switch is seamless. If the channel gain or the level was a fair bit different then you would notice a sound drop/peak which would have to be adjusted.

  • @doublegone

    I guess its only the pioneer for DVS DJ's?

    • @JamesAbbottDonnelly
      @JamesAbbottDonnelly  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      is indeed, but We don't really have any people playing from DVS in the bar, they'd far more likely be in the main room, with the fully flexible setups

  • @alecksdj
    @alecksdj 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    no seria mejor mandar todo al mixer y el Master usarlo para la señal de radio y monitorear con el Booth ?

  • @MrDJLeeE
    @MrDJLeeE 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mint. Was curious if the difference in sound quality was noticeable with one digital and the other analogue.

    • @JamesAbbottDonnelly
      @JamesAbbottDonnelly  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is def a difference and it's certainly noticeable when we use the Radius 4 on our big Main Room Club system. It is also noticeable if we have our Cafe/Bar system cranked fully up, but that's very rare, it's usually bar vibes/background stuff in there so at those volumes to the vast majority of people there's no difference.

    • @MrDJLeeE
      @MrDJLeeE 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JamesAbbottDonnelly Cheers. Eyeing up a radius 4v myself. I've had a DJM 2000, A&H DB4 in the past (a couple of videos on my channel) but fancy an analogue mixer this time. I'm in Leeds myself so might try and get over one night.

    this is like my only dream of achieving in life! to have this in my house! bahahaha

  • @DJChrisArgueta
    @DJChrisArgueta 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This video explains the routing, but it doesn't explain how the levels work.
    What if you're on the Pioneer and CH 2 on the Pioneer is all the way up, but CH 2 on the Radius is down?
    Would sound still be there when you flip to use the Radius?
    That would be interesting to know.

    • @JamesAbbottDonnelly
      @JamesAbbottDonnelly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In that scenario when you made the flip you wouldn’t hear anything until you turned up CH2 on the radius. To prevent that you would start the flip but not push it fully up, turn up CH2 on the radius, then push it to its final position and the switch over would engage .

  • @uniqueflowsnake

    is there a way for a DVS system to be used easily with it? laptop+traktor box and timecode vinyl? :o

    • @JamesAbbottDonnelly
      @JamesAbbottDonnelly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could add DVS to either mixer individually easily. But not retain the ability to hot switch the mixers. The DJM 900 has the some of its inputs extened out to a faceplate you can see just under the left CDJ - for quickly adding in inputs without having to acces the back of the mixer. But you can also access the back of the mixer pretty esily via a couple of screws to remove a plate at the top of the mixer. The back of the Master Sound mixer is even easier to access as the sloped plate with the Sheaf St logo on just slides up. However that isnt what this booth was designed for as i explain in the video. Somone playing DVS would be far more likely to be using one of our other booths without fixed layouts.
