    There is an adjustment on the foot pedal . Really this is when the instruction manual comes into play.. The Anchor button is leaps and bounds over the Spot lock of MinKota. The remote also has the ability to use hand signal control which is another plus .

    Trying to be respectful here, but like mentioned earlier in comments. Check the users manual before doing a hatchet job on a review.
    You were giving praises in other areas and that’s great. If I would have watched your review before buying my Force I would have possibly missed out.

      I just gave my opinion which still stands. Foot pedal is weak point. Cheap plastic feel, motor can't make micro moves like other top of the line motors, and pedal is spongy and not reactive and precise.

  • @moosergs

    I would think you would know if there is a adjustment on the foot pedal before you review the product.

    You should buy the Garmin Force trolling motor if you can hire someone to manage the foot pedal on a consistent basis. Another thing, the spot lock is so inaccurate, you have to be ok with fishing in a different zip code once you engage it. Other than that it’s great.

  • @lunkerdunkerbaits4064

    I'm about to buy a new trolling motor as I currently have a Fortrex but want spot lock. The Ultrex dominates the Mississippi river bass boats around here and is a proven motor. However, the Garmin is wireless and out pulls both the Ghost and Ultrex and last longer too. I'm not bashing either brand, but it's 2020 and I'm in tech for a living. I shouldn't have to buy $350 to hook up my $3200 fish finder \ GPS to my $3000 trolling motor. Minnkota sat on the market too long and now wifi, power and brushless have surpassed them. You know the Ultrex will go both wireless and brushless next to keep up, not to mention finally integrating a real \ fast touch screen on their sonar units. Way to go Garmin, pushing us forward!

    The pedal is totally adjustable. If that is your biggest hang up you should read the manual and try again.

    • @3poundCrappiefishing

      Tim Huser the pedal is a cheap construction and several have said there is lag. Ultrex still wins.

    • @Wiel0059
      @Wiel0059 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tim: Couldn't agree more. Switched from Ultrex to a Force, actually use it on my boat and not just a single one-off trip for a TH-cam Review. There is Z.E.R.O. lag and when tightened down, it works just like any other foot pedal. I get the need to push on something, but perhaps this TM wasn't fully updated or something, because the lag thing is flat out wrong.

    • @johnnyhelems5296
      @johnnyhelems5296 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow - the foot pedal adjust is right where you were looking. Garmin has already raised the bar on this - you forgot to mention bushless motor. All trolling motors will have to match that key feature.

    • @3poundCrappiefishing

      Ken Kurz I agree that people will have to match the brushless feature. But I can’t get past the cheap construction of pedal. Maybe the next model.

      @@3poundCrappiefishing That's the one consistent complaint on this motor, that I'm 100% convinced of. Seems like a lot of the other complaints are "one-off's" that no one else has mentioned. But, the "toy-ish" feel, and make of that pedal has been mentioned 3-4x's now. At $3600 NOTHING should feel cheap. Shame on Garmin for cutting corners to that degree.

    My $0.02...I own a 2019 megadi ultrex. The pedal failed at 3 months old. When your ultrex pedal fails the trolling motor as a whole will not work. I had to remove it and take it to my local dealer for warranty repair. The dealer had 3 other ultrex's in there for the same exact issue. He said the pedals on the ultrex have always been a problem.
    Unit back on and everything has been okay since, but I do not like the cable for the lift. Companies make aftermarket cables because the minn kotas lift cables don't seem to last and I'm waiting on mine too take a poop(I have a spare ready to go).
    I went with the ultrex because I have live-scope so the deployment is great for that system. I thought I could live with the attached pedal but it's really find it in the way because 90% of the time I use the remote.
    I really don't like the cabling situation coming out of the head around the base either. If you are not careful in how you route things you could easily severe wiring in the scissor frame.
    Now, I got to see the Garmin just tonight for the first time at Cabela's. 10 feet away was the ultrex on display. I really didn't see a difference in base size but maybe I over looked it, because to me going to ultrex from a terrova was a mind blowing size difference. I played with the pedal and to me it has a similar light weight feel my terrova had (come to think of it my terrova pedal failed to:(. Sometimes we relate something that's light as being cheap but that's not always the case.
    I'm still on the fence but I'm leaning toward the Garmin.
    Nice video, thank you!

      Love the comment. I guess I will start off by saying that I have not had a problem with my Ultrex pedal. Therefore we probably are coming from a different frame of mind. I do agree that there are some sharp points on the old tracks that could sever wires that worry me. I think if you look back at the size of the two you will see a significant difference between them. But that of course was not a determining factor for me in my review. Yes the foot pedals light and no that does not mean it’s cheap quality. I do however feel like the construct is cheap and seems that way when I felt,touched and caressed it. 🤔. Perhaps I will end up going with the force at some point. But I’m hoping for a better pedal in generation two. Again loved the comment. 👍

    I've been thinking about getting the Garmin Force and have watched literally every review video available so far and you're the only one who mentioned the foot pedal. Everyone else said it was just as responsive and that the head speed is actually faster than the Ultrex.

    • @3poundCrappiefishing
      @3poundCrappiefishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dennis Griffin I think the head speed is as fast as ultrex. Is it faster I don’t think so. Without a doubt there’s a lag between the pedal and the movement of the head. Are the people that you’re watching moving from an ultrex? If they are not I would question their ability to compare the two. I do however always recommend checking it out for yourself. Test drive an ultrex. Then test drive a force.

    This was 3yrs ago... For the guys that are getting their first high-end TM, you won't miss what you never had. My concern would be, is it easy to use, accurate, responsive, and durable. I would DEFINITELY notice a major latency. A fraction of a second is typical...but, if it there's more than a half-second latency for the pedal response, then that's a major issue. As of this comment, I could save $2K if I went with a Force, due to the Echomap sale at Bass Pro. But, it's moot if Force hasn't fixed this. Apparently, Garmin has fixed several issues with this TM, most of which were software related. I just can't find a recent review that shows that. Between the Sonar and the TM, this is a $5K-7K investment. I want the best I can get for that kind of money. Btw...are you still using your Ultrex today? Power Pole has a very expensive model out, as well.

      For me, the decision boils down to this ... I run Humminbird electronics. I fish multi-species so I want iPilot link to pair w/ my birds *and* I want a mechanical pedal. Garmin does not have a follow contour-type functionality. And the Garmin is more expensive for what I want (80lb 60", US2, iLink is about $2800 vs. garmin 57" at 3200).
      QUESTION - can the Garmin retrace a saved route like a regular iPilot can? Additionally, do they have the cruise-control type feature that tells the motor "go .7 mph and maintain that speed regardless of current , waves, and wind"? I see a lot of videos on aesthetics and raw performance, but not so much on features beyond spot-lock.

    To be an "upgrade" a new product has to be better than the old alternative. I think most fishermen, myself included get caught up in the "new is better" mentality when actually it's not always the case. This is a good example of tried and true being better. My Ulterra is great and I wouldn't dream of changing. Granted the Ulterra and Ultrex are the top of the line MK trolling motors.
    I haven't seen the Force in person but one thing that I see that I would not like is the rod that sticks off the left side of the mounting bracket. I'd wind up with jigs and/or fishing line wrapped around that rod often.
