This is the most practical cost effective solution to measuring firewood! It beats the measuring stick, tape measure, magnet stick, and I believe the laser system. Good idea thank you!

Good idea Chris. When I was in the factory life as a mold technician I painted all sorts of my tools pink and used pink tape. I gotta say, my tools were always made it back to my tool box. Now I work in a lumber yard, being trapped inside for 8~12 hours was not my cup of coffee. Outside is way better and the coffee just taste better. Not every job has to be about money, do what you like to do and the money will come. Being happy doing what you do is priceless. 😎👍🏻

Indeed Chris you are the MBA of firewood. Fine stuff as usual even though you have a Huskvarna OCD ! 😜 What I've do, depending on the bar size, is just mark the saw across with a magic marker. For me it seems simpler to use the saw as marker although you have to turn the saw for the cuts. JMNSHO.

Yup, I used to do that too, add up the extra movement each time and in a week you waste hours of cutting time. Try a zip tie! They are cheap!

I saw your original video on this method. I rigged a saw and tried it out today. I've got to say, it's the best compared to all the other ways to measure. I used a thin one and found it to be no problem with getting in the way.

As a certified occupational therapy assistant(COTA) this adaptation makes my heart smile. I believe your eyes will miss the larger pink contrast target that the beefier zip tie provided. You will notice this when you actually have to look for the current smaller pink target. Surprise! I offer a suggestion😂. Add one to two additional zip ties above or below the current zip tie to give a beefier zip tie unit. Tape a “flag” at the left end of the zip ties for a larger visual target. Make the flag out of a full strip of tape 4 inches long and fold over the three zip tie unit, sticky side to sticky side for a 2” X2” “flag” that your peripheral vision will more easily locate. Put three to four rounds of black tape on the handle above and below the zip tie unit to prevent vertical slippage but yet allow horizontal rotation to move the device out of the way. Wrapping the zip tie clockwise(when looking from above ) around the handle keeps the zip tie lock from the front of the handle. Hope this helps. Brian.

They will all harden and break as it’s the uv light rays that eventually break down their flexibility, I have them on a powerlead that’s tied to a steel wire running from shed to shed and I’m replacing them every year as they all harden out. But as they are as cheap as chips it’s not a problem, I get them at a local outdoor market for £2 per 100 which is probably about $ 1.50 cents.👍

This measuring device works great the 75 -80% of the time when cutting wood from left to right. The 20-25% of the time you cut from right to left I snicker to myself watching your brain for that microsecond process how you’re going to measure those cuts, with having to utilize the marks on the bar, yet looking for the pink tape. Surprise again, I have another suggestion😂😂😂. You may actually have to purchase the >14 inch zip ties for this to work. Attach the same 2-3 zip tie unit to the right side of the handle(this time wrapping them counterclockwise around the handle to keep the lock in the back) place the same sized 2” X 2” pink “flag” on the right terminus of the zip tie unit with black tape above and below the locks at the handle and keep the unit horizontally rotated out of the way (except for the 20-25% of the time when cutting from right to left). Little bit of extra time up front to save wasted time and energy rotating the entire saw for measuring right to left distances. One of the greatest frustrations as a therapist is getting buy-in from the patients who have “always done it this way” because it has been sufficient for 80 years. 😊 once again, Great video.

I would suggest tying a rope to the saw and using it a s a boat anchor, buy a Husqvarna, you will thank me latter! HA!!!! Gary I hope you get my feeble attempt at trying to be a bit funny!
