    The cream coloured waistcoat is absolutely beautiful.
    There are people who do fabric/clothing restoration and conservation. It's such a lovely piece that it would probably be worth it to have it professionally cleaned and repaired.

    That was fun! The smoking jacket is a great match for your hair color, it looks great on you. I do have a question. When you freeze the new additions, will you also freeze the clothes you wore through the video (shirt, bow tie, pants etc.), since you tried some of the your recent acquisitions on over those items before freezing them?

    • @AntiqueMenswear
      @AntiqueMenswear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Good question! Well moths only lay their larvae in wool and my uppers were all cotton, except my wool trousers. It's also unlikely that any larvae would fall out of one garment and then force their way through the fibres of another before they've fully developed so I don't think it's necessary but you could do if you really want to.

    Please make more videos! I have a few questions about collars. First, did people wear a wing or imperial collars with regular suits and not only with formal wear? Also, what is some reading material about dress codes or fashion from the era (the 1880s-1920s) that would go into detail? Thanks in advance for the answers!

    Hello. Not sure if you know this, but at the website for the Gentleman’s Gazette they have a quiz that helps one find out what type of gentleman one is, or would like to be. When I take it, sometimes I’m considered a Classic Gentleman, sometimes a Vintage one. Point being, if you test as a Vintage gentleman they list Instagram channels for inspiration, and your channel is one of them. Just thought I’d let you know, in case you saw increased traffic on your channel. Enjoy your TH-cam videos, by the way. 🙂

    I really enjoy your videos, there such great fun! I have been collecting antiques from the early Victorian to late Edwardian period for some time now but have not yet stepped foot in the seemingly choppy waters of antique menswear, (I have always preferred dressing in an older style but I’ve never had much success) How would you suggest starting an Edwardian wardrobe, and at what point would you suggest being able to start wearing them on a daily basis? Thanks again!

    Wonderful video! It's really cool seeing all these old pieces in such good shape and still prone to be worn. Have you considered doing a Patreon? I'm sure a lot of your viewers would appreciate a better camera, which could show the colours and textures of the fabric more accurately (unfortunately, for the first waistcoat you couldn't really see the green and red accents). And if you can gain some income from your audience, you could invest that in the videos! Anyway, keep it up, you definitely got me as a follower :)

    • @AntiqueMenswear
      @AntiqueMenswear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have lots of collector friends and we tend to swap between each other, or send things for free.
      But when I do buy things I buy them very very cheap, and I only buy them if they're very very cheap.
      Some suits are listed for over $1000, but it's a scam. Don't pay anything over $300 for a complete mint 3 piece, and even then I think it's expensive.
      In Europe it's usually €50 for a full Edwardian suit. You just have to wait and look hard. I've been collecting for over 7 years.

    Thanks for a fascinating video. Just two comments. Firstly the buttons on the white embroidered waistcoat reminded me a bit of the old Dorset high top buttons as seen in the following episode of Jack Hargreaves' Old Country TV program (At about 10.33 on the video). th-cam.com/video/JqKwGMtDluQ/w-d-xo.html
    Secondly, could the patch on the white sport blazer be The South Australia Hockey Association? Look forward to seeing more.

    1st waistcoat is too slanted at end for before late 1890s at earliest

    • @AntiqueMenswear
      @AntiqueMenswear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that's a common misconception, that spawns from people thinking the pointed edges are spawned from King Edward and thus they have to have started after the Edwardian era but it's not so. There are plenty of fashion plates and photos that show men from the 1880s and 1890s with slanted and pointed waistcoat tips, some double breasted ones even end in a nice V shape.
      The neckline and collar look late 1890s to me, but we'll never have a definitive answer.
