Taproot: The Gift that Keeps on Giving (feat. Fred Durst)

  • It's a shame things went down the way they did between Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit and Taproot. He had a gem that had everything a nu metal fan would like. A charismatic frontman, heavy riffs, emotional strife.
    But in reality, this is just another episode of how labels screw themselves over by trying to screw over artists who just want to play music.

    Great video! Thanks for putting it together and using quotes from my True Rockstars book! Solid history and analysis of our tunes from “Gift.” - Jarrod Montague

    Gift is such a powerful album and it’s aged beautifully. It was one of the soundtrack albums to my college graduation in 2016. It sucks they had a fallout with FD, but either way all the music and culture of that era is still incredible to me.

    If Fred said sign them they would’ve been signed. He was a VP for a reason. They tried benefitting off promotion Fred created around the their band. The other labels only wanted them after Fred showed interest, that’s it. They never would’ve been signed at that point, especially with all the different labels fighting over them. Interscope was the way to go back then. If you couldn’t cut it there you might as well move on. They knew talent when they saw it and more importantly they were the best promoter to reach said demographic. My two cents

    You don't just let someone court you like that and let him shout you out just to lead him on. It's normal fred would be upset. Also, the three songs are no loss. If they truly weren't good, why recycle them for another album? Just make new ones. And if they were good, then they would have been signed, no worries. For me, it's a real bummer because these guys could've been bigger were they given the push that interscope could have provided. Imagine fred spending time to go to your hometown and shouting you out like that. Of course he had big plans and it was basically a done deal.

    Great video dude! I really enjoyed it. I love Taproot they are an amazing band and just like you they had many songs that I could really relate too and got me through good times and bad times. I was madly in love with a girl who pretty much just used me. I used to play Mirrors reflection and think of that girl. Also I was sooooo in love with the demo version of Again and Again. I would play it over and over.
    Anyway, great job on the video.

    I always found Taproot too lacking in the Hip Hop department to be considered real Nu-metal.

    • @ASteelWheel
      @ASteelWheel ปีที่แล้ว

      The only Nu-Metal stuff they did was on the first album, Gift. But it was more of a Korn based sound. While Welcome was more of an alternative rock album. It was obvious that they were already trying to move away from that sound with songs like Poem.

      Dumb comment. Hip hop isn't an absolute requirement for nu metal, it's one branch of the genre. Nu metal came in a bunch of different forms.

    Taproot is such a sick band. It's always an eye opening experience for musicians that have never heard them. Such strange melody rythm and harmony. Mixed with insane talent. I always respected Durst for putting them on, even way after limp bizkit became a trope (still bump limp bizkit). But, i didn't realize he did them dirty.... no pun

    This video has been a gift… I’m in the UK so never knew about the drama behind the scenes… I was a teenage outcast who heard again and again and resonated. Like you when things go bad in life I end up returning to this album. I’m the only person I’ve ever known who’s been a fan… even out of my teenage numetal friendship circle… it’s a shame their second album didn’t land with me in the same way… ironically that’s the album that other people around me liked but I thought that something was missing from their second album… something intangible that was definitely in their first

    • @NocturneMusic
      @NocturneMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey i appreciate you watching. i call their second album post-nu metal and as i got older i started to really enjoy it. but what gift has that welcome doesn't is the unbridled energy. welcome has its moments but it's fairly restrained like the guys grew up a bit and could talk about the same stuff in a more balanced way
