If you'd genuinely like to know the reason, I am Asian and I may be able to provide some perspective. The punchline of the joke relates to how difficult it is to use chopsticks, but for Asians who have been brought up with them it isn't hard at all. A joke like that can be interpreted as kind of exclusionary, which in turn can make it seem as though it was made at the expense of Asians, especially since from the looks of it they offered a Vietnamese burger and did not associate it with any actual Viets, simply choosing instead to poke fun at an Asian eating utensil in a way that most Viets probably wouldn't relate to, which may leave a bitter taste for some Asians. Hi there. Im not used to commenting on stuff like this but your comment struck a chord and id like to explain my view on microagressions if youre willing to listen. I'm Icelandic. We are a small nation of around 300.000 people with a huge majority of those people being white. Less than a percent are black so almost everything the average person knows about black people comes from tv and the internet because its so rare to be able to make a black friend or have a black co-worker. I explain this because my boyfriend is an American who moved here 3 years ago to study our language. Icelandic is one of the most difficult languages to learnbut hes passionate about it and he speaks it fluently. The problem with being such a minority here is that a lot of people assume he doesnt know the language. Almost every time he meets someone new he has to stop them from switching to english and tell them to speak Icelandic to him. They dont try to speak english first because they are racist, they do it because they assume they know what type of person he is. Thats what a mcroagression is. Its having to over and over deal with assumptions about your background or culture. Its not the peoples fault but its also something they should be made aware of. Microagressions is actually not a great word because usually theres nothing agressive about it. Its just passively accepting the world view you have instead of being self critical. My point is that using microagression unironically in 2019 isnt always bad. I hope you can see my point
lucaridudelvX I assume you mean “they don’t speak Icelandic to him first “ in the middle of your comment. If your boyfriend is black which I feel like you’re alluding to it’s comical how you call people racist for speaking English to a black man they’d probably think is a tourist. That’s like a white man going to an African country and expecting them to know he speaks their language. Stop calling things racist because it’s convenient , it’s just simply not racism.
It's a useful tool to explain how people can be petty. It's like if your girlfriend asks you to put the toilet seat down and you intentionally leave it up to be a petty bitch. I think the term microaggression fits pretty well with that kind of action.
@@TobyMUFC What? I just said it wasnt racism? I'm explaining that its not racism, just people treating him differently on the basis of race. I seem to have forgotten to point it out but he is black yeah. And the thing with assuming hes a tourist is that during the summer the amount of tourists here is greater than actual icelanders but still its only assumed that non white people dont speak Icelandic even though half the people youl meet in the street (who are mostly white) dont. I get what you mean but the logic doesnt hold up in this country. Even the immigrant population is white and asian by a very wide margin and people assume they speak icelandic every time Im not trying to be agro or rude, im just trying to explain my point of view.

I'm all for people taking more care for what they say and joke about, but we also need to prevent a society where no one can joke about something because the subject somewhere is serious and meaningful. Context should have more meaning.
Context literally gives meaning to words. This comment would make far less sense if you looked at a different comment and treated this as a reply to that comment. For example, Comment "With the burger king ad I think people are just being way to sensitive" reply "do you think gender is impacting her treatment?" this makes no sense until you realize the reply was to the comment "Victims can still victimize. It's not an excuse, especially in long term active participation in stuff like extortion and blackmail. Mack's statement was taking zero responsibility and that should definitely (but won't) reflect in her sentencing." See how context changes what you may think about when looking at things.
ScarletAsmodai I’ve always found comedy as a way to help different people understand each other. I think this ‘nothing can be joked about anymore’ attitude is having the effect of taking conversations off the table. You can’t bridge gaps without awkward conversations. Anyone who’s been in a relationship with good, open communication can understand that. And sometimes joking about the awkwardness helps make it less awkward. When we can no longer do that, you just have angrier and angrier people, who aren’t able to communicate with each other.
Don't let inappropriate overuse of the word push you into an equally unreasonable position on the other side. Microaggressions obviously do exist, it's just that the "micro" part should mean "very very small" and not equivalent to racism etc.

Haha somebody used “micro-agression” un-ironically in 2019
Yeah... Is that really a real thing?
Even the immigrant population is white and asian by a very wide margin and people assume they speak icelandic every time
Im not trying to be agro or rude, im just trying to explain my point of view.

Yet again, someone uses the victim card to get what they want, in this case, a lighter sentence! *Don't fall for it!*
that and woman also get lighter sentences, I can't wait til she gets no jail time and nobody is shocked.
@Lee Morris lacking empathy doesn't make your comment useful or funny.
she has a lawyer telling her what to say i think. anyone in that cult for so long is surely very damaged.
@Lee Morris Yo I'm not gonna say she's entirely a victim, but that comparison is pretty stupid.
abusive relationships believe that enduring pain is a sign of devotion and honest love. I do believe she can be a victim herself never knowing what love is till after the incident but that doesn't change the harm and pain she caused a lot of people. 4 year prison sentence and therapy is a good punishment

SJW alert, an SJW got attacked by a burger King micro aggression
I am so PLEASED and oddly surprised by this channel. The show is one of the only channels that have consistently and constantly listened to your audience and improve your show without becoming cocky. I really appreciate that you DO listen to your audience and that it’s a conversation. Thank you everyone who works on these videos. They’re one of my favorite things to watch at the beginning of my day.
Another day another outrage. That Burger King ad was fine.
@Mac mcskullface The ad was obviously a joke with no intentions of offending anybody. It's literally just a white dude awkwardly eating a burger with chopsticks. Stop looking for reasons to get offended just so you can get your two seconds of attention.
I'm like whatever.
It was not good it was cringy but I'm not going to lie I can't use chopsticks either so I would have looked stupid too lol
Can you imagine if Burger King did an ad that was insensitive to white people then conservatives would say that’s “racist”, right?

The Burger King ad reminds me of the pamper ads with black babies. Which also wasn’t offensive but people made it out to be.
For example,
Comment
"With the burger king ad I think people are just being way to sensitive"
reply
"do you think gender is impacting her treatment?"
this makes no sense until you realize the reply was to the comment
"Victims can still victimize. It's not an excuse, especially in long term active participation in stuff like extortion and blackmail. Mack's statement was taking zero responsibility and that should definitely (but won't) reflect in her sentencing."
See how context changes what you may think about when looking at things.
*Dammit Allison!*
