I’ve watched many and still can’t get my 11 month, Miniature schnauzer under control. Had a trainer but didn’t feel he did any better. He struggle too, leash pulling and barking at other dogs.
@@rossieg3666 try a gentle leader, see if hell accept treats when he’s being good.also try the butt thing where you basically don’t let him look at the other dog . If there’s something I’ve learned from Joel Is if one thing isn’t working move to the next or change some things about it

I've done no bark or the walk is over - your choice - with my Dobes and even my Beagle/JRT mix whose revert to mode is barking. You have to follow through that very first time you say it though so they know you're not crying wolf. The next time you take them you can actually see their minds thinking about it - hmmm, do I want to go home or keep walking? For dogs barking in their own yard, I tell my guys No bark, he's doing his job. That's his yard. You'd do the same thing if that was your yard. My guys whine once and we continue on our walk. 180 degree turns work wonders too. As soon as they start, before they get to the end of the leash and start pulling, you just turn around and go back in the direction you just came from - the boring part of the walk that they've already sniffed and been there. When they calm down, turn back and continue in the regularly scheduled direction. Hope that helps.

After months with our sweet rescued American bull pit, who’s 100lbs of pull pull pull, I watched this one video, went out with our girl immediately after, first in only the yard, then for a walk, applied your directives, and by the time we returned, she’s is fixed. Literally. No more pulling. It was like a switch. She still does pull and Yelp if we see rabbit or other dogs, but simply walking? Just her and I? No more. She’s now a specimen!! I’m in shock. I used this today on my 3yr old mastiff x who can be quite anxious on walks and it worked instantly! He very quickly figured out what was going on and only had a very brief reaction to another dog, which I quickly corrected and we continued with no issue. I played with changes in direction and he followed me brilliantly on a loose leash. For the first time it felt like we were just out walking together, rather than me walking him. Great stuff 👍🏻
Works with goats, too! Watched the video, immediately applied to my does when I was leading them back to the barn yard. This is when the pull because they're eaget to get their evening chow. Worked like a charm. Easiest walk back ever. Thanks!

This is amazing. It worked for my golden Doodle. Now he doesn’t pull and it took him only a few days to get the hang of this. Now he knows that good things come when the leash is loose.
This method has worked the best of any I have tried. The only thing I wish you mentioned, which SHOULD be common sense, is that the force of the correction is not the same for all dogs. Meaning the amount of force you used for that rottweiler is more than you would need for a Chihuahua. But the same method applies.

I've spent 2-years trying other methods on him, Halti, turning around, walking the other direction, clicker etc. watched this video, implemented it; GAME CHANGER!. omg Thankyou so much for this, just had a breakthrough with my GSD, went to the dog park for the first time. I'm able to stop her barks and her lunges and she happily stays sitting next to me - the best way to put it is that as though she now has a somewhat clear direction in what she needs to do(need to better my timing and technique). I have a 2 year old girl who we have struggled with training how to walk on a leash. I have been sharing your videos with my partner and we really like your method. This dog resembles how our Macy acts the most, and we will now make this part of our routine. I just recently got her to sit outside which is an improvement as she would only do that indoors before, but we need to get her focused on us. I like your training a lot because it doesn't involve treats, and the outside world and all its distractions are better to her than a treat.
My dog is 3 y/o, a strong Azores Cattle Dog female. She's dominant, flies out of the gate, pulls on leash...all the package. Discovered your channel yesterday, applied today for the first time your methods on the leash. It was not a perfect walk. It was a much better one tough. It started making a difference since we got out of the backyard, after 6 tries. She was paying more attention to me, like she never had before. I was blown away by how successful this method is. My 6yr. old 85lb. lab would NOT stop pulling on the leash when walking and would bark at and lunge at other dogs. After one session with her, using your method she's cured! I can now relax while walking and not have to constantly be correcting her. Oh, she still needs a sudden stop or two to keep her focus - but 99% better. There's a police K-9 fenced in a backyard on our route, and my dog used to go ballistic with the K-9 barking through the wood fence - now, she walks right by and just whines in response to the other dog - but she doesn't leave me. Good lesson. You got a sub out of me. One very important word of advice, don't switch sides of the leash over your head. That's how I got a rotator cuff tear on my shoulder, when he took off while my arm was over my head. My Rocky was 85 lbs. Not too reactive, but that time, he was quick.
My golden used to drag me behind him on his walks. I applied this method two days ago and now our walks are so relaxed on a loose leash. Less frustration and you'll love your dog more, want to go on more walks, and enjoy spending more time with your dog. Your dog won't hate you for correcting them. You're building a stronger bond and mutual respect, and your dog will love you more for it. So many people don't spend the time showing their dogs the rules and end up having a nuisance for 15 years. You showed your dog how to walk civilized for a lifetime, in 2 days. Love it!

I have been binge watching the leash videos. I live on a crazy busy street so I have to take my dog in the car before we can go on a walk in a park with trails.. As soon as his feet hit the ground he wants to take off, should I at that point guild him back into the car and try again until he gets it? Thank you again.

Still amazing, this guy uses normal collar and his techique is perfect, i'm sure he could even walk an Aabai and a Kangal and teach something to the people who needs someone else to pull back these dogs and still struggle. I struggled with mine and had the intuition that i should change direction cause i was tired of his pulling, we was walking me litterally, however, it was not perfect because i didn't give the gentle pops, he used to walk next to me and had more tendency to try to walk me again, thank's to this guy he mostly walks behind me, other times next to me and then if he tries again i change. Some dogs learn so fast. He got there pretty quick. He’s a Rottweiler. I did it on one walk with an Australian shepherd. He gave in super fast with verbal ques
I had to get a vibration collar. It took 4 times buzzing him. It was a waste of money…it trained him immediately! He knew when I pulled the remote out..not to move! There was no shock involved! Just vibration. It’s an amazing collar! EDIT: He learned the buzz…it doesn’t have any motivation anymore…he’s like …that’s all you got?
I have been using this and have had tremendous success with the same. The only question I had is : Would extensive correction have a bruising effect on the dog's neck? My vet told me they have their thyroid gland right where the collar is and that gets damaged pretty bad in leash pulling situations. Love the work by the way , You've literally saved my dog from flying through the door and crashing into a vehicle.
Hey Joel! Just recently discovered your channel doing some TH-cam research to learn some things about dogs! I found you and every day I have been watching a little bit! My brother was in another city and came back and lives with us for now, he has a 1y 7months girl Labrador and I have a 4yr mixed race medium size (13kg). They are now used to each other but he still is afraid even tho she just wants to play. I saw this video and I see that the dog is calm once you start the walk. In my case when I want to go with the Labrador she is so pumped up on energy that the corrections have little effect. How can I make her lose some of the energy once she knows that we are going for a walk? So she has a calmer mind to teach. I think that she will do a sit/stay but the energy will still be there. Sorry for the long question/story! Thanks!
i have 4 big dogs all male and neutered getting ready for walks is a nightmare so j get harnesses on and make them wait till they calm down then i get the leashes and have to put 2 in a room while i take the other 2 out and run out the door and the gate. yeah there is just so much i would make this a novel lol but i love these videos i have learned so much
The frustrating part of all this is to not be able to find a trainer like this in my area. The videos are very helpful, but still feel I need hands-on instruction to help my dogs live up to their potential.
Hello, I have a 4 month old Rottie. I notice your dog doesn’t have a choke chain on. What do you recommend for puppies as far as training on the leash and walking. At the moment I use a harness and my pup tends to pull on the leash with her mouth. Thanks!
I have a Dutch Shepard and when I take him to the park he will pull at the end of the lead. I give him a correction and walk all the way back and he will perfect heel. I praise him and turn back to go to the park again and he'll be at the end of the lead again. I keep repeating it and every time on the way back he perfectly heels. It's kind of funny but very frustrating. He obviously knows how to heel! He's also very under socialised. I got him when he was 6 months old (now 2 years old) and that is the time when covid started and the country locked down. He does have a very good male dog friend a French bulldog. They will play and smell each other etc but any other dogs come near and he's like a wild thing at the end of the lead. I've been trying for a year and a half to stop this behaviour. When he first met my friends Frenchie he reacted like that too for about 5 minutes and after a couple of walks they're best friends. Other dog owners just see a vicious dog barking at their little yapping dogs and think the worse. I wish you were in the UK but your video's are very helpful. One day I hope to have a well behaved dog. I'll be getting him neutered once things go back to normal in the hopes that will help too.
I have 2 dogs at home, can i train them both together with this method at the same time (with a leash for each dog of course) so it wont be time consuming?

Great video. I’m really appreciating your training methods! Need some advise on my barking 5 month old Cane Corso. Obviously a guard dog breed and goes off like a firecracker when people approach our house and camp site for example. We know it’s unfair to expect to stifle the barking completely as it’s in her genes. But we should be able to “turn her off” and let her know that we’ll take it from here. Any advice on how to do this?
@@BDTraining Upon barking, We have been saying “ok, now LEAVE IT” then try to reward with a treat when she stops. This is effective at times. But she can get so engaged at times that it’s like she doesn’t even hear us. We’re just trying nip this behaviour while she is still young (5 months). Ive even purchased a vibrating collar to possibly incorporate after two “Leave it” commands. But just haven’t had the heart to use. Hoping that perhaps this reward approach for her calming down after a “leave it“ command may be the way to go. Just wanted to see if you agree with this or had other ideas. Thanks so much.
Do you have an example where multiple dogs and multiple handlers are walking together and the last dog keeps trying to leave even after correction? I assume the same method would apply but I as the handler would need to break away from that pack to teach the dog to not "chase" the front of the pack?
I once tried the method of “turn around and go the opposite direction when your dog pulls”. I got so dizzy from constantly doing 180s that we had to go home. LOL
My dog doesn't like the leash & has been approached by growling dogs so she doesn't want to go for walks. So when she sees the leash she stays away from me. Any advice?
Man, that's the best method. Do you think that I could do this with two dogs at the same time? I have a golden retriever and a boxer and I usually walk them together, but if it will be more effective I could walk them separately. Also I use a 5 feet leash, do you think a longer leash would be more effective? Thanks so much.
The question is ...can I do this all the time during all the walk sesion if he is pulling constantly.Should I just pick for example one spot to practice for a sertain period of time for example 10 min.. He starts good than after 20 min start to pull like no progress is made.He knows that he is pulling and doi g it wrong and he imidiately comes to me and ckrrect himself, but he dont want to walk without oulling.just comes imidiately and when I start to walk he start to pull.So I keep asking myself should I be hard on him till the end of the walk.I was doing great 10 days untill he realise his mistakes.After that he knows I will corect him and he again keeps on pulling ignoring the correction.He can do it all day and me too.There are days when we dont get out at all.10 m.only but he still is stubborn
I watched all your videos.It helps me a lot.This is actualy a first time after 2 very hard year that something is succesfull for this dog and his agression.He is better but still pulling after 20 min of walk is impossible.I am so tired but I wont give up never.after all this 2 years fighting against all problems with him I chalenged myself for his lifetime to make him better

I will be trying this with my lab mix tomorrow. Once our door opens she instantly run for dear life. That's just the door threshold., which has stopped me from taking her on walks. She is only 46 lbs but strong as heck. 🥴 Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!

Still amazing, this guy uses normal collar and his techique is perfect, i'm sure he could even walk an Aabai and a Kangal and teach something to the people who needs someone else to pull back these dogs and still struggle. I struggled with mine and had the intuition that i should change direction cause i was tired of his pulling, we was walking me litterally, however, it was not perfect because i didn't give the gentle pops, he used to walk next to me and had more tendency to try to walk me again, thank's to this guy he mostly walks behind me, other times next to me and then if he tries again i change. Thank's for sharing

@@AbnerSolano the treat or reward is being able to continue the walk. So……the dog walks ahead……leash correction…..dog stops and CHECKS IN with Joel……the walk then continues.

I had to get a vibration collar. It took 4 times buzzing him. It was a waste of money…it trained him immediately! He knew when I pulled the remote out..not to move! There was no shock involved! Just vibration. It’s an amazing collar!
EDIT: He learned the buzz…it doesn’t have any motivation anymore…he’s like …that’s all you got?
I have been using this and have had tremendous success with the same. The only question I had is : Would extensive correction have a bruising effect on the dog's neck? My vet told me they have their thyroid gland right where the collar is and that gets damaged pretty bad in leash pulling situations. Love the work by the way , You've literally saved my dog from flying through the door and crashing into a vehicle.

Hey Joel! Just recently discovered your channel doing some TH-cam research to learn some things about dogs! I found you and every day I have been watching a little bit! My brother was in another city and came back and lives with us for now, he has a 1y 7months girl Labrador and I have a 4yr mixed race medium size (13kg). They are now used to each other but he still is afraid even tho she just wants to play. I saw this video and I see that the dog is calm once you start the walk. In my case when I want to go with the Labrador she is so pumped up on energy that the corrections have little effect. How can I make her lose some of the energy once she knows that we are going for a walk? So she has a calmer mind to teach. I think that she will do a sit/stay but the energy will still be there. Sorry for the long question/story! Thanks!

i have 4 big dogs all male and neutered getting ready for walks is a nightmare so j get harnesses on and make them wait till they calm down then i get the leashes and have to put 2 in a room while i take the other 2 out and run out the door and the gate. yeah there is just so much i would make this a novel lol but i love these videos i have learned so much

The frustrating part of all this is to not be able to find a trainer like this in my area. The videos are very helpful, but still feel I need hands-on instruction to help my dogs live up to their potential.
I believe that he does video training. You might give him a call and ask if he gives video training. It wouldn’t hurt.
Hello, I have a 4 month old Rottie. I notice your dog doesn’t have a choke chain on. What do you recommend for puppies as far as training on the leash and walking. At the moment I use a harness and my pup tends to pull on the leash with her mouth. Thanks!

Will this work with a no pull harness? I do not want hurt my dogs neck by pulling on his collar.
I have a Dutch Shepard and when I take him to the park he will pull at the end of the lead. I give him a correction and walk all the way back and he will perfect heel. I praise him and turn back to go to the park again and he'll be at the end of the lead again. I keep repeating it and every time on the way back he perfectly heels. It's kind of funny but very frustrating. He obviously knows how to heel!
He's also very under socialised. I got him when he was 6 months old (now 2 years old) and that is the time when covid started and the country locked down. He does have a very good male dog friend a French bulldog. They will play and smell each other etc but any other dogs come near and he's like a wild thing at the end of the lead. I've been trying for a year and a half to stop this behaviour.
When he first met my friends Frenchie he reacted like that too for about 5 minutes and after a couple of walks they're best friends. Other dog owners just see a vicious dog barking at their little yapping dogs and think the worse. I wish you were in the UK but your video's are very helpful. One day I hope to have a well behaved dog. I'll be getting him neutered once things go back to normal in the hopes that will help too.

Don’t be lazy. Each dog needs to have individual training sessions in everything.

Need some advise on my barking 5 month old Cane Corso.
Obviously a guard dog breed and goes off like a firecracker when people approach our house and camp site for example. We know it’s unfair to expect to stifle the barking completely as it’s in her genes. But we should be able to “turn her off” and let her know that we’ll take it from here. Any advice on how to do this?
That exactly right right, you need to let her know “you’ll take it from here”. Think through what that process would look like. Get back to me.
@@BDTraining Upon barking, We have been saying “ok, now LEAVE IT” then try to reward with a treat when she stops. This is effective at times. But she can get so engaged at times that it’s like she doesn’t even hear us. We’re just trying nip this behaviour while she is still young (5 months). Ive even purchased a vibrating collar to possibly incorporate after two “Leave it” commands. But just haven’t had the heart to use.
Hoping that perhaps this reward approach for her calming down after a “leave it“ command may be the way to go. Just wanted to see if you agree with this or had other ideas. Thanks so much.

Do you have an example where multiple dogs and multiple handlers are walking together and the last dog keeps trying to leave even after correction? I assume the same method would apply but I as the handler would need to break away from that pack to teach the dog to not "chase" the front of the pack?
If there are multiple dogs and multiple handlers then each handler needs to do the training with the dog they are handling.

I once tried the method of “turn around and go the opposite direction when your dog pulls”. I got so dizzy from constantly doing 180s that we had to go home. LOL
My dog doesn't like the leash & has been approached by growling dogs so she doesn't want to go for walks. So when she sees the leash she stays away from me. Any advice?

I have a golden retriever and a boxer and I usually walk them together, but if it will be more effective I could walk them separately. I had to walk mine separately until they each got the hang of it. Easier on all of us.

I notice when you give leash correction, you lower your hands and body before tugging. How come?
So that he can make sure to pull ACROSS his body in line with the dogs collar so that it isn’t a pull upwards.

The question is ...can I do this all the time during all the walk sesion if he is pulling constantly.Should I just pick for example one spot to practice for a sertain period of time for example 10 min..
He starts good than after 20 min start to pull like no progress is made.He knows that he is pulling and doi g it wrong and he imidiately comes to me and ckrrect himself, but he dont want to walk without oulling.just comes imidiately and when I start to walk he start to pull.So I keep asking myself should I be hard on him till the end of the walk.I was doing great 10 days untill he realise his mistakes.After that he knows I will corect him and he again keeps on pulling ignoring the correction.He can do it all day and me too.There are days when we dont get out at all.10 m.only but he still is stubborn
I watched all your videos.It helps me a lot.This is actualy a first time after 2 very hard year that something is succesfull for this dog and his agression.He is better but still pulling after 20 min of walk is impossible.I am so tired but I wont give up never.after all this 2 years fighting against all problems with him I chalenged myself for his lifetime to make him better
