    Disregard the Negative comments Mark Dolhonde, not anyone can do what we do. It looks easy and simple from the ground but most people cant even get 10ft up the tree. We all have bad days , we all have experience a dull saw, but that doesnt take away on how good of a climber you are Mark. You do excellent work dude, stay safe and keep posting videos. God be with you every climb!

      People aren’t trying to diss him it’s just not a professional and safe way to do the job he ain’t gonna be a bad ass when he messes up one of these days and is either paralyzed or in the ground that’s the way I see it when I am in the tree caint provide for my family or be productive when I am dead mabey be a quick way to do things but not always the best thing to do to show others what we are about and sharpen your saw man it helps a lot

      @nate2838 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesn't even have to be a spike slipping, doesn't even have to be his mistake (aside from not being tied in), all it would take is a groundie snagging his line at the wrong time.

    It looks like a very dull chain.. or the chain might be too loose. Either way, that thing is not cutting very well. If it was really low on gas, it would lose power whenever you hit the trigger. But since I wasn't up in the tree while this was happening, sometimes you can never know unless your'e actually there.

  • @johnwright6995
    @johnwright6995 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    sharpen your saw mate use your chain brake don't operate the saw one handed make shure your attached to the tree with your lanyard at all times when moving position make sure your ground staff can perform an aerial rescue just be safer mate it is a dangerous job but do it by the book will cut down most of the risk been swinging around trees for years in the UK and get some ballistic trousers on

    talk about Russian roulette. only one anchor point and not even a wire core flip line. it's only a matter of time before he hits that with the saw, having said that I don't think that saw is sharp enough to cut a rope.

    • @ArsonistArborist
      @ArsonistArborist 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      chainsaws will cut through a steelcore lanyard nearly as easy as a rope one. the steel core is not to resist chainsaw interaction. it's for rigidity. I used to always use a steelcore lanyard, but now I only use it for excurrent trees like this one, because its nice for flipping

    • @jacobdaniel8239
      @jacobdaniel8239 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ArsonistArborist D. Ryan Shaw saws absolutely will not cut through a wire core lanyard anywhere remotely close to as fast as they'll cut through normal rope. I've experimented with that in my garage two separate times. It's not even close to the same amount of time.

    • @nate2838
      @nate2838 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jacobdaniel8239 there are variable like the thickness of the cable, whether the lanyard is against the trunk where it is hit, how much weight is on the lanyard at time of contact, and the size of the saw. All the wrong variable at once and it will go through real quick. All the right variable together, and will not happen by accident. Always best to treat it as a rope and never depend on its saw resistance. Do i believe a cable lanyard will withstand an accidental saw hit better than rope? Definitely, but not enough for me to consider it a get out of jail free card.

    @nailgun1499 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I hope nobody watches this and repeats it.
    There are several problems but the one that really pisses me off is the lack of a climbing line while you're removing limbs. If you're just tied in with your flip line (safety strap) whatever you want to call it and you cut through it at that height, you're dead. Even if you have to tie the climbing line around the trunk, as you would when pushing off logs, it should be done ALWAYS. Then after you tie in at the top you stop using your safety line. INCREDIBLY STUPID. NEVER rely on one rope for safety.
    P.S. A butter knife would cut faster
    P.S.S Why the hell did you tie into the damaged part of the tree at the top. Sure it might hold but there were better options.

    For any non tree people that might see this video, this is a terrible example of how to properly/safely climb and rig a tree for removal. If you are in need of tree work, please hire a professional and do some research before you pick someone to go with. They might give you a cheap price, but that is only because they cut corners and are a hazard to themselves, their crew, and your property.

  • @duahm
    @duahm 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Osha regulations require a 3 point hold at all times. Whether it be two lanyards or not. It can be two spike and one hand. Regardless, this is old school climbing. Typical tie in with a typical 2 over 2 under tautline hitch. None of that new technical stuff. You don’t see many people climb this way anymore. It’s good to see that the old way is still in use by someone other than myself!!

    As an Iron Worker for many years who has worked hieghts up to 1000 ft. I have heard more than my share of complaints and cripes about double lanyards and being tied off at all times. And while I know it's certainly the proper and safest thing to do we all know that
    A. Sometimes it's just not how we do thing's and
    B. Everyone makes mistakes.
    While hanging iron is obviously different from cutting trees I can say this. There were many times when I was actually able to function easier without being tied off. But regardless of that people need to remember It is extremely easy to armchair critique the work of others.
    For myself I am impressed. Maybe not with the safety aspect of this job but the sheer skill it takes to climb and work like this...My hats off to you. If there is a video like this that shows it being done better I would like to see it....Be safe, live long and may God bless your whole crew

  • @wangfeijimei
    @wangfeijimei 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I got a question, why not the co-workers down the tree pick up the branches after it all finished? It's bit danger to have someone down the tree if something falls. also it should be good have a sign surround the tree to warm the others nearby.

    • @iceee187
      @iceee187 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Couple reasons, more work than you think to brush hump all those limps when there in a pile. I also don't think i've ever seen a pile of brush come out without tangling. Silver maples are pretty good tho, long and straight. Most of the time you flop the remanding stem onto the yard, and in 90% of the time, it would be where you landed all those brush trimmings. So if you were to do that, not only are you cutting the main stem, you're also cutting whats under it. More cleanup, more time. Honestly this job was done very good. And people can say oh it's not ANSI compliant and all that. But realistically, climbers aren't in that much danger. "bean poles" like this are the safest and easiest. As to your sign comment, this is in the back yard. The only time "I" think a sign is needed is near a road.

Think about people hanging from 200 foot masts in the age of sail. You think they had safety lines...? If you fall, you die, and they chuck your ass into the sea, straight down to the 'odd place'.
