    Make sure you use plenty of solvent weld on those pipes James, i thought i did when building my pond last year, eleven bloody leaks in the end, some had to be cut out and replaced, proper ball ache. Looking forward to seeing everything up and running.

    Hi James did you follow any designs for your wooden stands for the Burton Drum and Bio tanks

  • @kikotuner1
    @kikotuner1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    We plumbers warm the tube with a hot air gun or paint burner then the tube becomes soft and you can easily take other shapes or make cuffs let it sit until it is cold and then take it apart and you can glue them

    • @ItsWhatIDo
      @ItsWhatIDo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was going to suggest warming the pipe. Glad you said it.

    • @markj3457
      @markj3457 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And if you don’t have a hot air gun, witch are cheap as chips, you can use a hair dryer on high in a pinch.

  • @hippo5346
    @hippo5346 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Looking good , James . I'd stick with the rubber boot on the skimmer . If you try to force the joint or remove material from the mating part it might leak and cause you more pain 👍 you'll be fine with the gluing - just use a good quality glue , and not the cheap stuff from Wickes . I had leaks when I used that stuff .

  • @grahamchurchward7159
    @grahamchurchward7159 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Don't need a purge line I used a grinder with a sander disc to fit pipe into the skimmer..

      @grahamchurchward7159 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fantastic build though James..
      Mine cost a small fortune but its all worth it..
      Only thing I would say is try and re-jig the filter and bio chamber so it easy to get to mine can be a pain.. That's if you still can.
      Even if you put the drum in front of the bio chamber..
      Looks a nice drum that well thought out.
      Where you can use rubber boots

    Hey, great vid mate and it’s all looking sweet. I’ve been running the burtons tf500 for 3 months and my only advice with your setup would be to turn your drum round if you can. I know this maybe hard with your waste setup but you’ll get soaked everything you run a manual clean with the lid off. Anyway may not worry you but really annoyed me lol so I turned it round. Looks great tho 👍🏻

  • @robw7676
    @robw7676 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lightweight non-glass roof is the way forward for conservatories. Warmer in winter, cooler in summer.
    Bottom drains purge... Theoretical maximum flow rate for 4" pipework under no/low pressure is 54,000 litres / hr
    You probably won't need to pull the pipe off to prove you're right - even with the head losses, 80,000 lph of pumps running flat out against one 4" drain line will probably overtake how much it can fill the filter in a couple of minutes.

  • @chrisbeech9410
    @chrisbeech9410 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Heat your pipe up a bit on the end till its soft and then push it in you will be able to see what part you need to file off to make it fit then only file the high spots once it goes in nice chop the end off the melted a bit

    Hi James. Looks great. On the purging issue will the pumps make any difference when purging as it's a gravity fed system I thought it wouldn't make much difference as the water is gonna flow dependent of gravity

    Regarding the pipe that's not fitting under the skimmer, if you no anybody that has a lathe they should be able to skim a mm of the pipe to make it fit, even put a very slight taper on the pipe, then could seal properly.

    Hello James excellent job on the pond. I am no expert but I don't want you to make the same mistake as me. I might be wrong but from memory each 4 inch pipe from the bottom drain can only supply about 12000 litres an hour. You have 3 four inch inlets to the drum including the skimmer so that's about 36000 litres an hour into the drum. So if your total of your pumps come to more than that the drum level will drop and empty. I think the drum is capable of doing 55000 litres an hour when you use more inlets. I made this mistake myself and had to turn my pumps right down so my levels where correct in my filter. Again I am no expert at all and I might be wrong.

    It's all looking good James. I wouldn't worry too much about people's comments on how you are keeping your fish at the moment. As long as the fish are healthy and the water is good it isnt a problem. I've had comments on my video's about my small pond being over stocked. I know it's over stocked but I'm also way over filtered. The only issue I have is when something goes wrong it goes wrong really fast so I have to stay on top of things. At the end of the day they are your fish and it's your pond. It up to you how you manage things. Cheers Jim

    Feel your pain mate, I am doing my pipe work in my filter house. Carnot believe how much time it is taking me. Dry fitting and then taking it apart and clueing it. Spending hours working it all out. What ever you do do not clean it with solvent cleaner when dry fitting your pipe work. It makes it tacky and is even harder to take apart. Clean it just before you clue it mate. I tell you want when I was building my pond I wished I built a bigger filter house. You need it a least half size your pond my be bigger. It’s surprising how much room you need with pipe work pumps filters etc. Love watching your videos it spurs me on a bit When I feel like I am getting no we’re fast. Even though I spend all my spare time on it. But it will all be worth it when I have done it all. Sorry about the spelling 👍

    To help with the pipe not fitting cap the bottom, fill with warm water to relax the pipe. Or run warm water through it. Fit the pipe in then let out the water out and run cool water over it to harden.
