    I so enjoyed this video - and your blog post about reading playing cards. It would be great to see a video from you that discusses more about how to use playing cards for divination/fortune-telling. I always appreciate hearing your take on pretty much any topic!

    Hello Grace. I wanted to share with you how I did my draw today. I did my daily T draw with my Tarot in Wonderland Deck. Then I did the oracle card draw from The Wisdom of the Oracle deck. Since the cards all have numbers on them I decided to do another Tdraw from a different deck. The number on the card was 41. I shuffled the deck a few times then just counted down 41 cards and flipped over the 41st card. It was an interesting experiment and I think I will continue it for at least a week and see what happens.

    i am muslim (not strict) and fortune telling is considered haram. a lot of muslims i know are opposed to fortune telling or are apprehensive about it, but people will still hesistantly accept for me to read for them, lmao.
    i straight up lie and tell people i dont predict the future. “i just see possibilities!” i do it to protect myself from judgment, especially from my family. a part of me also believes that i’m incapable or unworthy of prediction, because only God can see what tomorrow brings, but i have been right too many times. if i was not allowed to see into the future, then why can i?
    i love these videos, i learn so much from them! ♥️

    Like you, I grew up with cartomancy. In my case it was Lenormand card’s, then playing cards, then tarot. (And yes.. most often, Lenormand is sharp in tone and all about handing you a roadmap of potholes along your path.)
    Somewhere in my teens I was told that 3rd party and predictive was ethically wrong, and for a while I fought using them that way... but honestly? I gave up on that rather quickly.
    Intuition is intuition, and that information is going to come through whether I want it to or not. So I had a good look at my own moral compass and values and decided that for me? Either third party and predictive are a part of it, or I don’t read cards... because it just comes naturally. And I sure as hell am not hanging up my decks!!
    Interestingly, I am not as strong at reading the past as I am at reading the present and future.
    Terrific video Mary-Grace. :)

    i couldnt agree more. i cant see the point of reading cards without predicting the future. it might depend on the country but here in france when we read cards its always predictive. i love your channel and just subscribed keep going thank you 😉

    I don't use instagram. I don't use facebook. I use tarot cards (first meeting in 1998 as 13 years old girl, made my own deck) - seriously since 2008.
    I don't have "fancy" decks, indie decks, expensive decks. [Although I have more than few tarot decks ;-) ]
    I fully understand your point of view. More "cold shower", wise like this one video please :)

    So freaking awesome! I did not know I needed a video like this until I heard you talk about it. Your history with the cards is so unique and interesting and your voice on this topic is so valuable! As someone who feels a bit between the camps of predictive reading and not, I might try to get my thoughts together and enter this discussion. Thank you so much for this!

    Recently discovered your channel. We have so much in common. I also make videos on youtube. I been making videos for two years now. When I first discovered youtube I was shocked by some comments that were made about fortune telling. Predictions and even witchcraft. I have alot to say on this topic. I also started on playing cards and the barajas. I have talked about this topic on many occasions on my channel. Its nice to know I am not alone. I will be making a VR to this as well. Culturally psychic readings are revered where I come from to this day. I am Puerto Rican and Haitian so predictions and third party reading are big in my practice. I also serve the Saint practice Haitian Vudoun. Will be making the video soon. Thank you again for creating this video. I have always been open about doing psychic readings. Thats what my client seek me out for. 😊

    i just love your videos. thank you! 💙 your trip through the cards mirrors tarot history. very cool. i've been reading for myself since 1987 and the unspoken question is always "what's going on?" or "what's up?" i don't think of it as being predictive because i don't ask "what's going to happen?"

    👏👏 yay I so agree with you grace, I’ve never had anyone come to me for a reading that didn’t want a predictive reading, no one ever asked me for a spiritual reading. My daily draws are like yours what I need to be aware if that day. I started reading in 1992 so maybe we are classed as old school lol . The name fortune teller nowadays is ridiculed and put down which it shouldn’t be.. I agreed with all you said and so pleased to hear someone voice my thoughts ❤️🙏🦋

    I came to your video from Shamanic Arawak Priestess's VR. I loved this video/tag! Although cartomancy and tarot can be used for spiritual exploration and psychological study only, I don't understand not *also* using it for predictions and divination. Or at least, not demeaning others for using it in a predictive way. I loved hearing your perspective and I look forward to watching more of your videos.🥰

    I feel like a lot of "tarot readers" these days really want to sanitize the tarot and gentrify it... make it "respectable" and apply some type of ethical standard that they've made up... ("it's not ethical to read about people not present, its not ethical to give bad news, etc)

  • @serafinabenedetti8270
    @serafinabenedetti8270 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Omg yes, I also remember growing up thinking a fortune teller was of respect and usually an elder. I’m not sure when but I know there has been a shift in peoples perception of the title. I don’t really know why. I also subscribe to the idea we can use tarot and oracle as a personal spiritual tool and also for fortune telling
    “Cynical, skeptical and optimistic all at the same time” so relatable haha!

    YES! So much this - it has been irritating the heck out of me to hear some people proselytizing about what they are and what you should do or shouldn’t do, in a way that denigrates any other way. It seems to me there are as many ways to do cartomancy as there are people 💗🥰
    I agree about Sibilla being so direct in your face too - it scared the bejesus out of a friend, to the point she didn’t even let me finish the reading

    Dear Mary-Grace, I'd like to know where do you come from? You started to read cards at 6. It's just wow! This is why you are a real fortune-teller and not just a tarot reader as everybody calls themselves. I agree to every word you said. And still, please, answer where you are from and what country do you live now:)

    Mary-Grace, this is one of your most authentic videos, you're so passionate! And so right ;) I've been reading tarot since 1972, never playing cards though, and I certainly didn't start as young as you did. I think reading is always, in some sense, predictive. Even if it comes to light through the client, through the questions the cards bring up so we ask them. Within all questions we are asked, it is, as you say, what's going to happen? ~~~ in another video of yours I watched today there was a book on your shelf, "Shrines". Who by, please? Blessed Be

    In all my meanderings on here I don't know why you've never been recommended!
    I really struggled with the trend of not fortune telling (and evidently still have maybe a shadow of it considering how much this resonated). I've been predicting without cards all my life and that and one of the reasons I became so interested to begin with.
    I could go on but I don't want to fill your comment section so I'll just finish with thanking you for this video. Now I'm off to watch some of your others!

    Neapolitan playing cards!!! Those are the cards I used to play Tarot with when I was a kid! I had imagined all sorts of meanings to every card and you now told me how they are named, thank you! Could you tell me if there is a specific Neapolitan playing cards deck that is particularly nice? I must also say, I liked your video. I want to do a VR. But I don't consider myself a fortuneteller, do I use the hashtag? :D

    • @MaryGraceFahrun
      @MaryGraceFahrun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Canada we are limited to just that one brand, Modiano Neapolitan playing cards. The person to ask about Neapolitan playing cards is Corvus Magus on You Tube and Instagram. He's awesome and he is from Naples and I am pretty sure I've seen him post a much more beautiful Neapolitan deck. Yes, please do use the hash tag #IAmAFortuneTeller even if you do not consider yourself a fortune teller. Different opinions are the spice of life! xoxo

    Coming to this video really late but it's incredible viewing.
    I personally don't agree with predictive reading. My problem, as someone who has worked in mental health, is that prediction removes agency. Some of the people I've read for I know had mental health issues and a predictive reading could have been actually dangerous. Particularly for those who have clinical depression and/or expressing suicidal intent. This has happened to me.
    I also use the I Ching which has also been incredibly accurate but I don't view that as prediction.
    Note: I don't believe a future is set in stone but you can forecast potential futures. I do not view forecasting as prediction.

    Thank you for this - I have been struggling with how to explain 'fortune telling' without coming across cheesy and fake. I am wondering - do you use spreads for your readings? If you do, what do you use to start a reading? Thank you!

    • @MaryGraceFahrun
      @MaryGraceFahrun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been using the same spread for decades because I know it so well, lol. It is the 12 signs of the Zodiac spread. I mention it in one of my earlier videos, but you just made me think it might be time to share it again! xo
