Girthy Murphy there are other servers out there you can piggy back off of also. But maybe your current DNS is adequate. Find a closer one to your location then Googles servers.

For those who are curious, this changes your DNS (Domain Name Server) from your ISPs to a Google Public DNS. Some ISPs just have terrible DNS, so switching to Google's, which inherently have plenty of bandwidth, can improve things drastically.
You can do the same operation in your router settings as well.

DNS settings does not improve your internet speed, but the DNS servers in this video replys faster, its googles DNS servers = lots of expensive hardware.

I know what you mean, I bought a one s and it came with battlefield 1 download. I had to download it at a friends place because I have a capped data plan. It took 16hrs over 2 days. I bought "dying light" game disc and had to download a 20G update yesterday. It took around 6hrs.
My download speed is the same but my gameplay is quick so I guess This worked!

Ahhhh TH-cam.... where the clueless can pretend they understand networking when they don't. A "bandwidth test" is not the same as actual download speeds. Changing the damn DNS server you are using (from the one assigned to your router by your ISP to Googles) has NOTHING to do with how fast your internet connection is it only affects how quickly a server will be found....unless for some unfathomable reason there are different servers that just HAPPEN to use DNS names stored on the GOOGLE DNS servers vs your ISPs.
This "fix" only affects the download test and NOT actual downloads.
If it makes yall fell better this game has not even hit 1% in a week

Dovah King All this does is tell your Xbox to use Google's DNS instead of your own ISP's. So there isn't a more reliable way, if you got shit internet then tough, you just have to live with it. Any decent ISP's DNS will be better than Google's

Anyone who thinks this is going to improve the speed of your XBOX Internet connection doesn't understand what DNS is, or how it works. It may well improve the TEST speeds. if the test includes DNS lookups, but once you start using your XBOX there will be no difference. DNS is used to look up the address of a site you want to connect to. Once it looks it up the first time it is stored in a local cache and doesn't connect to the DNS servers again. In other words this change will improve your speeds by milliseconds ONE TIME when you first look up a new address, after which you will be back to the same speeds. This is a complete waste of time.

beast mode 2615 Domain Name System. In this case you are configuring the IP address of the DNS server you are connecting to. In this case, he configures it to communicate with Google's two main DNS servers. A DNS server essentially manages requests to access different servers by giving the server the name or url, the server will then return your computer, or Xbox, the appropriate IP address associated that url / server name so the computer can access it. Computers can only access other computers with their IP addresses, DNS servers in simple terms convert requests to access a specific server (accessing a webpage, a server to connect to online gaming, etc.) to an IP address which your computer understands. Hopefully this made sense and wasnt overly verbose

Thanks so much I usually have good Internet but lately when downloading/updating a game it start off at over 80mbps and then drops and drops to like 2mbps 😖 if I pause and then start it, it goes back up to 80mbps and then drops all the way down again!! After putting in the new dns setting it is now consistently on 80mbps or more!! No more dropping. Thanks again👍

How much could anyone bet that 90% of the comments either got paid to say it or they're internet just got lucky in the moment they added the DNS. The DNS doesn't work like that. The reason it works fast for only specific countries like America is because it is in their area and that xbox's automatic DNS estimation is terrible and unaccurate, causing a slow download speed. If you go on your modem's website source they should have a DNS estimate for your area and connection, do that, use that and it'll be faster than this video says it is.

Why do y'all not understand that "Mbps" stands for mega bits per second, no mega bytes per second. 8 megabits is a megabyte so, it would take 80mbps to go 10 mBps
