They put off more than enough to read with . I hhave been using my original since mid 80s . No real problems with wax build up if you leave it slone long enough to let the wax cool . I have 3 of these original uco lanterns . I use 2 in a 16x16 tent and it puts off enough light .
@@straykitten4998 Brass is heavier. I like the vintage look of the brass. Looks like some old time railroad could have used it. The aluminum ones are cool too.
I use mine in the house, being off grid in the winter, sun is scarce for solar. I was just wondering if anyone else has the problem of the candle melting wax all over the place. The candle melts and the wax goes underneath the plate and spring, coming out of the slot on the side and then the spring is buried in wax once it cools. And it keeps happening. Just fills with wax and pours out the side, every time.
My base always gets the melted wax on the bottom and it makes it hard to unscrew, also the spring gets melted amongst the wax and won’t come off - so how do you get your spring and base clean for the next usage?
That's a fair question, and you really don't have to light up a large. I'm just letting folks know that this candle lantern won't either way. Personally, I don't read at night, so it's good for my situation. Thanks for watching.

I had that wax thing happen with mine too. The brass ones are really nice.
What's the difference between the brass and not brass one?

Beeswax candles do not mess up your glass and will not drip all over the lantern! Stay away from paraffin candles that are sold for it!
Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Good question. I soak it in boiling water. The wax floats to the surface and the spring and case clean for the next use. Hope this helps

Hi, that’s how I’ve been doing it. Just wondered if there was another way. Great candle. 👍
Only run bees wax candles the wax evaporates and does not drip! Also keeps your glass cleaner!
No shit ohk.Why light up where you don`t need to
