- It's blueberry season here on the farm! In this video, I'll show you how we hand pick our blueberries to select the juiciest, sweetest, most delicious berries on the bush.
And I'll give you a closer look at 2 of the varieties we have growing on the farm - Farthing and Keecrisp (my favorite).
If you're near Alma, stop by, grab a bucket and pick with me.

They look so delicious! And you pick faster than me for sure... I'd be too busy eating.
Hello from India . we have started blueberry cultivation in India last year .
Those blueberries look so ripe and juicy
Great video and gorgeous blueberries!
And very nicely filmed 🥰
@@perennial-garden I was hoping to make you proud!
You didn't mention how the farthing tastes My favorites are Chandler and blue crop. Both have a strong taste and are a bit tart.
The Farthing is a good, sweet berry. It is softer in nature than the Kee Crisp and not as sweet, but as a whole, I like the Farthing 2nd to Kee Crisp.
May i ask if the amount of berries eaten by birds is significant? How do you scare them away?
Some years the amount of berries eaten/destroyed by birds is very significant. We use various methods: automated bird distress calls, sprays that burn their beak, loud cannons, gun shots in the air. Some farmers have used the mechanical flopping guy like you see at car lots, sliver ribbons tied to irrigation pipes sticking up, fake owls with moving heads. Any and all of this works for a while until the birds become accustomed. It is a battle for sure.
@theblueberrybarn I have 9 bushes so I can manage it by netting but I always wondered about farms. Seems like quite the battle. Thanks and I wish you good luck!
@@uefamikep Thank you.
