Super looking locomotive. I think the early to mid 2000's was a time when Hornby made some great models. Cab detail is fine with the dials picked out. A good smooth runner. Thanks for showing an earlier model that has stood the rest of time. Regards Paul.

Hi Adi, You've got a very decent model there with enough detail to look good and not too fragile so that it just falls apart when handling it. The tender connection works fine if looked after and not bent too much, this is probably Hornby's best era for good reliable working models from China after that things go a bit flaky to the present day. The early British Triang/Hornby models were very robust and just keep on going but detail was basic. They then went through the Ringfield era where detail was improved but the Ringfield motor and tender drive are a bit naff. Nice review, all the best Robin.

Some say - including yourself & me - that this is an example of "peak Hornby." Great looking loco. Hornby do know how to manufacture LNER engines. Perhaps the silver coloured lever under the cab was for dropping the fire? Keep up the good work.

Great loco, detailed review, the loco looks stunning in the running session. The sleeve is supplied with early DCC ready models, i guess it is to put your decoder inside to provide insulation and prevent shorting, usually where the decoder is inside the loco? My Hornby Britannia has the same sleeve, it's from the same era with DCC inside the Loco body. ...Drew

You ought to compare Great Northern with a model of the new-build Peppercorn A1 engine, Tornado. I have Tornado in my collection. While the original LNER A1s are nice-looking, I prefer the Peppercorn A1 because, I think, she's more beautiful and a nicer shape. Nice A1 you got there. She's nice.

Always sad about the Great Northern being scrapped. It would have been automatically preserved as the class pioneer, but it had been butchered by Thompson.

My new favourite LNER tank engine. I've named my model J72 Janette after Janette Manrara of SCD status. Janette usually runs on my railway with the pair of Hornby 6-wheeled LNER Teak coaches. I'd like to see your J72 with your 6-wheeled LNER Teak coaches sometime.

Well now I think Rails of Sheffield will not get any of my money, I feel like stores like Kernow, TMC, Ellis Clarke and sometimes the manufacturer are just as good or better.

A wonderful locomotive, nice running session.

An Express Passenger train is made up of about 8 to 10 Chocolate & Cream Mk. 1 coaches, for a Castle Class engine to haul along the main line at about 60 or 70 mph. On a model railway, it would be about 40 to 50% speed. Of course, that number can't always be accommodated for. So usually, it would be 4 to 6 coaches. What's not to love (please don't say Gresley Was Right) about God's Wonderful Railway?

You should have recorded your calls to them. That would allow everyone to know for sure what exactly went on between you and RofS. They must be very sure of their case against you and feel that they have very strong reasons when they have taken such severe action against you.
