Found your channel via the TH-cam algorithm. You've really come a long way since your early videos in terms of production value. I do some of my own amateur go pro filming fishing for Great Lakes steelhead. I know how much persistence it takes to capture the grab on the gropro much less a grab on a swung fly. You're one of the few channels that does it. Awesome video!
ahh i appreciate that man! glad you enjoyed the action. We have all seen enough casting footage i want to look back on the best moments in my career and this is my best shot at capturing it. thanks for watching, Dan
This was a well put video, great edits and very informative for us that don’t fly fish at all. Those initial strikes are just heart pumping. Great footage and love the fish handling with the net and keeping them in the water. Well done Dan, that was entertaining and informative video. The end clip, Did you see that? That was wild.
Sick video dawg! Thanks for the gear overview - could you briefly just talk about your line/head setup and sink tips? like what were you running under the bridge as it looked pretty slow/almost froggy? Keep the content coming. Tight lines and heavy nets brother.
Hey man that froggy stuff i tend to fish a weighted fly with a 9 to 11ft flouro tip tapered down to 10lb test. Didnt really need to fish tips this year but when i do i tend to fish mow tips or poly tips. I used a rio short spey with my longer rod (red and grey) and a scientific angler mastery great lakes switch in the 7/8wt class i believe its 420 grains which is perfect for my 6wt 11ft switch(black). I also have a 520grain switch chucker that i use for my 11'6 6/7wt that hardy sintrix rod (green)
Idk what it is, ever since I got back into steelhead fishing I've preferred centerpins. But I fish a private branch so damn small swinging flies in the best areas isn't practical. But there's something about hooking one of these fish in a quiet, peaceful stretch of water. Tranquility to chaos in a second.

Yes !!! 🙌
Aren’t those just lake run rainbows? I always thought no salt no steel. Great video though man
Yessir we call them steelhead because they are actual steelhead genetics from west coast rivers and partake in very similar migrational patterns.
do you fish the grand river? if so I would love to watch video steelhead caught from grand river
Learning it now still a long road ahead for me!
Just nothing like the grab of a swung fly.
Best thing ever!
so jealous
