  • Learn to simulate and design the short-cut distillation column in Aspen HYSYS, based on the information of % recovery of light key in the top product, and % recovery of heavy key in the bottom product. The problem statement is given below:
A feed mixture (vapor) consisting of 45 mol% methanol & 55 mol% water is fed to the distillation column at 3 bar, at a flowrate of 500 kgmole/h. The % age recovery of methanol required in the top product is 99% (liquid), and that of water in the bottom product is 95%. The pressure drops in the condenser and reboiler are 0.2 bar and 0.1 bar, respectively. Provide the initial estimates for the design of rigorous distillation column.

Very informative, just want to know what is significanc of Minimum no of stage, Mostly we are going to use the valve of Actual no of stage.

Thank you very much Sir for the clear and concise tutorial. I have one question. Isn't that the condenser pressure equals to 2.9 bar as its pressure drop is 0.1 bar?

what if you have a multicomponent system: a, b, c with a being the most volatile and b in the middle? Can you use B and C in the short cut column? Will it give accurate results? Thanks!

What was the reason you used NRTL fluid package?
