if I want the whole track to duck to the kick drum in a house music song, can I side chain the master channel to the kick or do I have to side chain each channel individually? Thank you
Thanks! I have a lot of them from over the years having things like Battery, Maschine and other things installed that come with a library of sounds. But to answer your question i believe a google search for "drum sample library" would probably get you close. In terms of this tutorial though, you don't actually have to have a kick drum sample on your hard drive. the track i used could just have easily been an instance of Ultrabeat triggered via midi regions. In other words, the compressor isn't going to care whether the signal source came from a plugin or regular audio. hope that helps, Good luck...
I think the reason why it got so much louder when you activated the compressor for the side-chain was because the AUTO MAKE-UP gain was on. If you turned it off you may not have to crank down the output on the compressor.
Hi. When I switched the output to no output, logic didnt register the sound of the kick drum and for that reason i cant hear the sidechain effect ( i think ). For what i understand from other videos and this one, logic still needs to be registering the sound of the drum even though you cant hear it.
Great video pal; when i do this, the dipping effect is there, but not very noticeable whatsoever, I've tried threshold, knee and such but nothing is making a difference? thanks, joe.
It's almost finished, its a full female vocal track that we just re-recorded the vocals for. It's called "True" and should be posted there pretty soon, stay tuned! Thanks for the compliment...
I watched a million tutorials on how to sidechain, but for some reason i can't select the stereo out tab. I click on it and nothing happens. do you know why that is? I've tried looking online why, but I can't find anything.
I had the same issue right now. I opened up mixer and noticed that when I click on the channel strip, the stereo out is selected as a separate one on the side. I deleted that separate one. Then it showed up in original strip which I muted. However, you don't have to do all this. You record a kick in ultrabeat or any drum sampler for one bar, loop it to your requirement and then mute output. That's actually lot easier than this audio file example IMO.
it may depend on the version of logic pro you have. he is demonstrating from the most recent larger update where the compressor looks like this, the previous version was smaller which is why perhaps he commented that the compressor window he used was so huge.
You can just turn 'Auto Gain' OFF on the compressor and you won't get all that extra gain from the compressor. You left it on throughout this despite saying 'we don't want any makeup gain.' (it's set to the -12 button in your video).
look up MusicTechHelpGuy on here . He's thorough and very straight to the point , best Logic instructional on the internet and his voice doesn't put you to sleep like this !!th-cam.com/video/6r3Z7jRpI-A/w-d-xo.html

How did you created this base line???? Sounds dope!!!

Excellent lesson! Just found your channel...you're a great teacher.

Did you manage to release this track?
it would be nice, before everything starts in the video, to show a "before" and "after" so I can understand immediately weather this is for me or not.
pretty sure you had auto release on and and -12db gain engaged.
Straight forward. Great tutorial

+Joel Maida Make sure that you have all Advanced Tools enabled in Logic Pro X > Preferences > Advanced. That should solve the problem for you.
ive tried that and it still isnt letting me for some reason
i realized that i wasnt right clicking, tried right clicking, and it worked. kms

How can I do this in GarageBand? I'm asking because it's the best I have, and it's a bit confusing to me.
Imperial Officer not sure sidechaining is possible in GarageBand
great video. thanks

Lol Did you add reverb to your voice for the video?
Ulek _ no man that was done on a laptop outside of a proper recording room. I know, it's annoying, the later videos sound much better I think
Right on, I see. Excellent work on the tutorials man, its refreshing to see.
YOUR VOICE IS PANNED TO THE LEFT AND ITS DRIVING ME NUTS
no, it's not.
bro it really is around 1:50
something must have happened when he created that track since it started and stopped while it was active.
what is a side chain?
Simon Kravos compressing the sound whenever the kick hits to bring out the drums and give the song a pumping effect
谢谢!
tnx!
Auto-gain left on like a rookie...
people is not interested into you speaking, or doubling samples, WE JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW TO SIDECHAIN!!!!

this is not the most productive way to explain side chaining
I finally understood how to do it because of this video, no other video I watched explained it as simply and as quick
poorly illustrated
