This video is very informative, I never utilized the side chain features but now I see how useful they can be. I can see how this process could inspire you to create new rhythms and unique noises. Thanks for the tips. I hope to see a new video soon, you have a knack for teaching.
hey! you can also bounce a pattern track in place as audio and use it as input rather than creating an auxilary-bus input. Find the "bounce in place" option in the context-menu (right click) when selecting a track.
Just started using Logic, smoothest transition from Ableton so far from other DAWs I’ve tried to be fair! Really enjoying it and this us exactly what I needed thanks.
Thanks dude, I did this tutorial about 5 or 6 years ago, needed a refresher, you are a really good teacher, and the pause button makes you super patient! Nice one, gates are cool, the first time I heard a Norman Cook gate I wanted to learn how to do it!
This is a very useful tutorial. Thank you for sharing this technique. It’s going to improve my creativity and take it to a whole new level. Your the man! 👍🏻💯
WOW All i can say great video. subscribed and added to favorites. learning how to mix and master in logic pro X got the music making down packed just learning now how to blend every thing better to fit as far as the sounds and drums very informative.
Great tutorial!!! Had one quick question. Not sure if anyone else has run into this, but the effect works great for me, but only works if I have that track selected. as soon as I move on and have any other track selected the effect doesn't work. as long as I play with that track selected is the only way it will continue to have the Noise gate trigger. any ideas? Thanks
+Miir Audio , through that noise gate pluggin are you able to manipulate the glitch in a fashion that is unpredictable/irrational? Your example was the same glitch setting in a loop, was just wondering if you were able to make it so it has no pattern each time around thanks! : )
+Mitch Dresen Not sure about that, unless you just used a random clip of audio for your side chain input, like a random TV sample, but you'd probably end up with transients too dull to really trigger the gate well. I actually use the Tremelo for something similar to what you are suggesting, and I was planning on making that the subject of an upcoming tutorial. thanks for watching!
It sucks and isn't well publicised, but you could try and use the legacy Noise Gate (silver gate) which shares a similar interface. Simply hold the 'option' key while clicking an empty effect slot, and you should have a list of legacy plugins available.
Great tutorial. I'm gonna sidechain the gate to my kicks at 128bpm to get a pulsing sound with my saw synth in serum. I'm going for a Porter Robinson vibe.
Its easier to use the effect plugin Step FX was originally called Camel Space before Apple acquired them to get hold of Alchemy but all the CamEl FX are right there, check out the original Camel audio effects to get an idea of what can be done, it seems many people don't realise these amazing FX plugins live on in Logic!
Yes by the way I wish they were available individually in logic. Like I wish there was a dedicated effect for distortion, instead of having to open the fatFX and disable all the other effects.
DAMN BRO!!!! you just opened up another solar system to me... thanks so much !!!!
LMAOO
do you know where to get this noise gate, i bought the newest logic and it has a different noise gate
Dumang let me know if you find it!
@dumang9428 It's the same noise gate man, they just updated the user interface.
I've always heard this in many songs but didn't know how to make it until now. Thanks a lot! Awesome tutorial.
This is awesome man. I'm trying to learn everything I can into the world of Logic which I just started using. Thanks for this!
dude this is amazing, you instantly improved my producing skills
You can bounce in place the midi region to have it as an audio and use sidechain. A bit faster.
5:05 "more of the chords and then-- ugh i'll just play and then show you" same
Simple and concise; just want we're looking for. Thank you

Very helpful, dude. You get right to the point but take your time explaining things. 👍🏻
thanks Mike, I like your style! Good delivery on your topic, I really appreciate it!
Nice Technique Brother Ill keep watching.....Joe from Staten Island
Your teaching style and tips are helpful, *Mike* !

aux strips are created by default in Logic Pro X 10.4.x. A lot of this tutorial is now dated.
Thanks man. So concise and helpful. Very appreciated. Going straight into a couple of songs of mine.
That's sick! Never thought of doing it that way! Very useful tool.
Awesome, awesome, awesome! Your tutorials in my opinion, are some of the best out there! Thank you!
+JAE SIN DnB Thanks! I appreciate the compliments. Thanks for viewing!
+Miir Audio
Why not just create a bus instead then add the gate to save the CPU?
H
Best use of noise gate thanks for the video

Helpful video- Thank you!!
I found this while looking for the technique David Z used in working Prince's song "Kiss" with the guitar block chords. Thank you!
That was pretty dope. Thank you!!!
woa, I didn't know a gate could do all that. So informative, thanks.
WOW man you opened a door for me right there. This is so useful, thanks. Great tutorial!

Pure genius! Thanks a ton!
Very cool. Wondered how that was done. Definitely opens up the creativity vault. Because sometimes that vault is sparsely stocked

Love your tutorials. Can you do a tutorial on how to get epic sounding pads/synths like Seven Lion songs?
cant believe you can do all this with just the noise gate plugin. goddamn
A Dica foi muito legal. Uma das melhores que já vi aqui!!!

What's the difference between those to effects? Isn't it the same?
This helps brother, Thank you so much
hej somebody? I'm using logic 10 pro x but i have a different noise gate, someone knows any alternative?!?

I have Logic pro X but i never did the Upgrade 10.1 IS there a way i can get not Repeat with out the Upgrade?
My piano roll is white in the background, and it kills my eyes after a while. How did you make the background of yours gray?
Preferences > Display > Editors and you should see a tick box for piano roll bright. that should do it.
Is it easier now I hope with this coming more mainstream?
Can you do this with drummer? I only show Bus options in Side Chain no tracks.
