Ive just watched Midway (epic film, my grandad fought in ww2 and always told my gramp stories of midway that he had heard across the pond) and I am shocked at Ed's accent! Genuinely believed he was American!
If Best doesn't hit Akagi, who knows what would've happened?? The Akagi carried the Japan fleet's best torpedo pilots. Had Best not scored that critical hit, those torpedo pilots would've surely launched and destroyed at least the Yorktown. It's a shame Best never got the Medal of Honor for this. It was his decision to go after the Akagi!
It's nice that the film honors him the way it does. We're losing our history more and more, so movies like this are extremely important to remind people of the real life heroes and (like you said) how strategically important their actions were.
Your absolutely correct on the medal of honor which is usually reserved for people who saved a lot of lives , but Bests actions literally saved the nation
Don't forget the many others who also contributed, without them, Best wouldn't have had a target to hit. McLusky (sp) for spotting the racing destroyer, HYPO guys, all the support personnel on the carriers. Hell, his wife and daughter.
Man it’s weird to hear Ed talk after watching the movie with him talking American. He did an amazing job playing Dick Best I think he did just as good of a job as Ben Affleck did in Pearl Harbor. Ed absolutely nailed the character I hope he gets to do more war movies. Midway IMO is one of the best movies of the past 10+ years all the actors did an amazing job I watch it all the time. The only negative thing I can say is they went overboard with videos filters obviously a lot of cgi was used but the filters in a lot of the movie was over kill just made it look fake almost like they used a filter on a iPhone that adds the yellow color.
That was the best war film I have ever seen!!!!!
Great interview! Love this movie love this two~
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you liked the film too.

I’d like to see the cast of midway 2019. I’d like to tell them that their characters are cool. But we must talk about what they like and what I like.
